yeah, it's always fun writing thier conversations. xD

heck yeah its funny watching them argue.

the wolf ran swiftly while holding the baby dragon. then he ran into something. he looked up, and saw the dragon glaring down at him.

"the child..." the dragon snarled. the wolf then placed the child onto his back.

"my pup!" he growled at the dragon. then he raced off into the forrest. the dragon growled angerly, and then chased after the wolf.

"this way! i hear growling!" Inferno called as he ran.

"i can't believe i'm doing this! running through a forrest to save a wolf from a dragon that he probally stole a kid from! how do we get dragged into these things?!" Artica complained.

"come on! we have to hurry!" Inferno called. Artica groaned as she followed him. the wolf ran as fast he could, but then he stopped. a tall mountain stood in his way. he then looked back to see the dragon standing behind him.

"give me the child!" he growled. the baby dragon whimpered.

"no! this is my pup!" the wolf growled.

"are you insane?! you'll get killed if you keep him!" Artica yelled as she and Inferno rushed to the scene.

"the blue one is wise. hand over the child!" the dragon snarled. the wolf set the baby down on the ground. then he glared at the dragon.

"no! i will fight to protect my pup!" he growled. the baby dragon whimpered. Artica and Inferno gasped.

"what?! are you crazy?! you can't beat a dragon! you'll get yourself killed! this is suicide!" Artica yelled.

"i must protect my pup!"

"forget it, Artica, he won't listen to us." Inferno said. the dragon roared. then he whirled around, and sung his tail at the wolf. the wolf jumped out of the way, and then glared at the dragon. then the dragon turned to face him, and began slashing at the wolf with his claws. the wolf quickly dodged the attacks, but the dragon kept trying to claw him. then the wolf leaped into the air. he aimed for the dragon's neck, and bit down hard. the dragon roared in pain. then he raised his paw, grabbed the wolf, and pulled him away from his neck. then he threw the wolf to the ground. the wolf whimpered when his body hit the ground with a thud. he then got up, and glared at the dragon. the dragon held his neck with his paw. he then growled at the wolf, and spit acid from his mouth. then suddenly, Inferno jumped in front of the wolf, and raised his wings in defense. the acid hit his wings, and began to eat through them. Inferno groaned in pain.

"Inferno!" Artica cried out.

"get out of my way!" the dragon growled. then he raised a claw to attack Inferno. Artica growled, and then breathed ice on the dragon. the dragon groaned as parts of his body began to freeze. he then turned towards Artica. he then started breathing shadowfire on her.

"Artica!" Inferno cried out. then he breathed flames on the dragon. the dragon groaned, and then turned towards Inferno. he then looked behind him to see that the wolf was gone.

"no!" he growled in frustration. he then looked around to see that the baby dragon was also gone. he turned towards the forrest, and saw the wolf running with the baby dragon in it's mouth. "get back here!" he growled. then he chased after them. Artica walked over to Inferno, and looked at his wings.

"are you ok?" she asked, worriedly.

"i'll be alright.......but that wolf won't be if that dragon catches him....." he moaned.

"well, there's nothing we can do if that wolf won't give up the kid. let's just go on back to the cave."

"you really think we should........? that wolf could use our help........"

"we have our own problems to worry about........besides, the others are probally worried about us....."

"yeah.....alright, we'll go back...." he said. then they started walking back towards the cave.

Poor inferno well im glad he didnt get hurt too bad.

"there. your wings are healed."

"thank you, Goldrune." Inferno said. his wings were now back to normal.

"it was no trouble at all."

"yeah, Mom's a great healer." Goldheart said.

"sorry we woke you, but Inferno needed healing." Artica said.

"there is no need for apoligy. i am always happy to help. besides, you had a perfectly good reason for waking us up. now, about that wolf...what did you say happened...?"

"he was protecting a baby dragon from a black dragon. they got into a fight, and we helped out. that's how my wings got messed up."

"yes, an acid attack will eat through just about anything. you should have been more careful."

"so, what do we do now?" Flare asked.

"well, the wolf ran off with the hatchling, and the dragon followed them." Artica said.

"perhaps we should go help." suggested Nightiron.

"yes, that would be the right thing to do, but we have our own problems. we have not heard from Goldscale or Coalstone. they could be in danger."

"well, we know that wolf is in danger." Inferno said.

"yeah, we should help him." Flare said.

"yeah, come on, Mom, let's go help." Goldheart said.

"i'd love to, but i am worried about your father. perhaps we should split up."

"split up?" Ironstone asked.

"yes. some of us can go help the wolf, while the others try to find Goldscale and Coalstone."

"that sounds good to me, but who does what?" Inferno asked.

"Goldrune and i can go help Goldscale and Coalstone." Nightiron said.

"and i'll go with you, Mom." Ironstone said.

"me too." Goldheart added.

"then, Artica, Flare, Inferno, you three go help the wolf. and do be careful. i don't want you to get hit by the acid again."

"ok, we'll be careful. let's go, Artica, Flare." he said. they nodded. then they hurried out of the cave, and ran off into the forrest. then Goldrune and the others left the cave, and started flying towards Anyanca's lair.

ok sounds like a plan lets go. I like where this is going man I wish this could be a book someday.

me too. i hope i get a chance to publish my stories someday. i just finished writing Fireflight 4: Shadows in the Night, and i'll start the next story soon. of course, i'll also be writing this story, i'm not done with it yet.

hmm i got to read that story then meanwhile.

i just finished writing the first part of my new story. i've been wanting to write this one for a while now. i can't wait to post it.

Hahaha ok well i cant wait too see the next part then.

well, i hope you enjoy my new story as much as you have enjoyed this one. i'll see if i can write more of this one today, but i might end up just writing more of my new story, hehe.

the three young dragons rushed off into the forrest.

"this way! i can hear growling up ahead!" Inferno cried out, leading the way.

"hurry! we have to help the wolf!" Flare said as she followed him.

"yeah, but how? i mean, i doubt he'll give up the kid." Artica said as she followed them. they followed the sounds of growling until they reached a clearing. they stopped, and looked around.

"i don't see anyone." Flare said.

"neither do i. so where'd our furry little friend run off to?" Artica asked. then Inferno looked up, and spotted the dragon flying overhead.

"look up!" he cried out. the girls looked up, and saw the dragon. they also noticed that the dragon was holding something.

"is he........is that....." Artica muttered, looking up.

"it's the wolf! he's got him!" Flare cried out.

"and the baby dragon....." Inferno added.

"well, looks like we're too late." Artica said.

"no! we're going after them!" Flare said. then she flapped her wings, and flew after the dragon.

"come on, Artica. we should go help him."

"oh, alright." she said. then she and Inferno flew after Flare.

Oh boy what now? great chapter abit short but good.

Sorry I have not posted! I have been kinda busy recently...

I have two things to say...

One: Great work so far! ^.=.^

Two: I REALLY like that wolf...I dont know what it is but something about him being willing to die for a child that is not even his, even though he stole it, gets to me. I am just a sucker for romance and parent/child relationships. NOTHING effects me like those do.

thank you. that made my day. and if it's parent/child relationships you like, then you might want to read the new story i'm writing called The Descendant. i'll be writing that one at the same time as i'm writing this story, so i'll be slower at posting new parts now.

the black dragon flew towards Anyanca's lair as he carried the wolf. the wolf carried the baby dragon in his jaws, and was careful not to drop him. though as the dragon flew, the wolf thought of a way to escape his grasp. however, the plan he thought of did require letting go of the hatchling, something he was not willing to do. he then made his choice. he closed his eyes, and reluctantly opened his jaws wide, dropping the child. he opened his eyes as he heard the hatchling scream as he fell towards the ground.
"quick! spread your wings! start flapping! you must learn to fly!" the wolf howled. though his howl alerted the black dragon that the child was free. the hatchling quickly did what he was told, but the black dragon was already racing towards him. the wolf snarled, and then bit the dragon's paw. the dragon groaned as he stopped in mid-air. the wolf continued biting the dragon, who soon lost his grip of the animal. the dragon shoke his paw violently as the wolf struggled to hold on. soon the wolf lost his grip, and began falling rapidly towards the ground. the hatchling gasped as he watched the protective wolf fall. with a look of determination, the hatchling began flapping his wings rapidly. he started racing towards the fallen wolf, as fast as he could fly. the black dragon growled, and then raced after them. the wolf was approaching the ground fast, and the hatchling struggled to keep up. then suddenly, something dove down from the sky, and caught the wolf before he hit the ground. the hatchling looked up with joy knowing the wolf was safe. holding the wolf was a young red dragon. the wolf turned his head, and looked bakc at the dragon.

"you....." he muttered.

"yeah, it's me. your welcome for saving your life." the dragon replied.
"ok, now!" he yelled. then two female dragons came and charged at the black dragon. he swung his tail strike them down, but they dodged his attack.
"Artica, freeze his wings!" the red dragon yelled. the blue female took a deep breath, and shot ice shards at the black dragon. his wings quickly froze, and he began falling towards the ground.

"we did it!" the red female yelled in excitement. the hatchling began barking happily.

"ok, that's still wierd." Artica muttered. "come on guys, let's get out of here."

"we can't, Artica. we have to go to Anyanca's lair to help the others."

"but, Flare, they can handle that by themselves. besides, we have to take care of fleabag and the barking dragon first."

"Artica's right. we should take care of them first. then we'll meet up with the others. ok, let's go." the male said. then he began carrying the wolf back towards the forrest."

"i'm right behind you, Inferno." Artica said, following him. Flare flew up to the hatchling, and grabbed him.

"you're a little too young to fly that far by yourself." she said. then she followed the others. the black dragon landed on the ground with a thud. he breathed acid on his wings to melt the ice, and then he looked up at the sky. he saw the young dragons flying back towards the forrest. then he snarled as he marched off into the forrest behind them.

Yeah at ago you guys nice take down. Very nice chapter and I like the detail into the chapters you put in cynder09.

"well? well?! are you just going to let all those dragons wonder through the halls?!"

"Xerxes, silence. i am sick of your complaining."

"and i am sick of you! when are you going to actually pull your head out of that pool and do something?!"

"you know, you should be grateful you do not have a body."

"and why is that?"

"because if you had a body, i would be hitting it. you are getting on my last nerve! i am trying to focus, and think of the best way to execute my plan, and you are not helping!"

"would you stop daydreaming about fighting me and start fighting the enemy?! we are wasting time! they could have been dead by now, but no! you just had to think up another lousy plan! now, not only have we not killed this pathetic dragon or the elder, but others are here now! thier families came to rescue them! what do you have to say for yourself?!"

"it is time to execute the plan..." she said with a sly smile.

"finally! at this rate, i thought we would never do anything!"

"would you be quiet?! for my plan to work, i need you to cooperate!"

"now since when did i get dragged into your crazy plan?!"

"since i need you for it to work in the first place."

"wait, i'm the key part in this plan?"

"percisely."

"doing what? rolling around in a crystal ball? telling others thier fortune? Anya, this isn't a circus! i want them dead! i don't want to entertain them! Anyanca, may i remind you i am somewhat lacking a body here!"

"Xerxes, calm yourself before you give me a migrain. now, if you will listen before you speak, you would know that i plan on freeing you of that crystal ball."

"hallelujah! i'm going to be free!" he yelled. "wait, you're not putting me in something worse, are you?"

"no, you will be in something much better..."

"well, it's about time! how many times did i tell you to get me out of this thing?!"

"too many......way too many......"

"well, don't just sit there! do something! make me whole again! get me a body! any body! just get me out of this crystal ball!"

"alright, alright, i will. then you can go annoy someone else!"

"well, hurry up, will you?! i want to kill something!"

"you always want to kill something. now, just hold on a moment. i have to get ready. i have to say the spell first, remember?"

"yes, yes, just hurry up. i've been in this stupid ball for too long."

"and i have been in this room for too long....." she moaned. "now, just wait until i get everything ready.......and soon......you will be back to your normal self.......you shall be whole again......." she chuckled evily.

Goldrune, Nightiron, and thier sons were walking down a long hallway.

"this is taking forever! are we ever going to find them?" Ironstone groaned.

"eventually. though, in the meantime, you might want to try being patient." Goldheart answered.

"why?"

"because you're starting to sound like Artica."

"and how is that a bad thing?"

"you do know Artica, don't you?"

"well, yeah, she's the blue dragoness. she's pretty cute."

"she can also be pretty annoying, and very impatient. she's also not availible. at least i don't think she is."

"hey, relax, i never said i was going to date her or anything. you can have her if you want."

"me?!" Goldheart asked, surprised.

"what?"

"i didn't mean me!"

"then what did you mean?"

"alright boys, that's enough. we have more important matters at hand." Goldrune said.

"sorry." they replied. then the mothers walked off a little ways.

"so, what did you mean?" Ironstone whispered. Goldrune just turned her head back towards them, and gave them a look. they then remained quiet, and followed thier mothers down the hallway. soon they came to the end of the hallway, which led to a door. the group opened it to see nothing but darkness on the other side.

"i'll go first." Goldrune said. then using her fire breath to see, she stepped into the room. the others followed behind her. Goldrune lite up candels all along the walls, and they began looking around the room.

"hey, look over there." Goldheart said. he pointed to the far wall. there, in the shadows, was a dragon-like figure.

"who are you? show yourself!" Nightiron demanded. then the figure quietly stepped into the light. everyone gasped at what they saw.

dang cliff hangers!!! LOL. more more the suspense is killing me.

hehehe, i figured you would say something like that. i know you want me to write more so you can find out who it is, but i'm tired after my frist day back at school. i'll see what i can do though.

everyone stood in silence for a moment. the figure gazed at each of them, looking at thier shocked faces and gaping mouths, that soon formed into smiles.

"Dad!" Ironstone cried out, breaking the moment of silence. he rushed over to the figure, and squeezed him tightly. then with tears in her eyes, Nightiron walked over to the figure.

"i was so worried......" she whispered. she then hugged him.

"i know. but i'm ok." the figure assured her. he then looked at the gold dragons. "glad to see you're both ok."

"and we're trilled to see that you are alright, Coalstone." Goldrune said.

"let's go home now....." Nightiron said, wiping away a tear.

"you all go on ahead. i'll stay behind and search for Goldscale."

"not a chance. i'm not letting you out of my sight. if you stay, then so will i."

"me too!" Ironstone added.

"we will stay as well." Goldrune said.

"yeah! we'll all look for my dad together!" Goldheart chimed in.

"surely we can't all stay here. especially the littles ones. they should go where it is safe."

"we can take care of ourselves!" Ironstone beamed.

"yeah! we want to help too!" Goldheart added.

"they will be fine, i assure you, Coalstone. we will assist you in finding Goldscale." Goldrune said.

"we can not take the risk. they should leave. you all should leave."

"Coal, i know you're worried for our safety, but we'll be fine. besides, i'm worried about you. you surely can't stay here alone." Nightiron said.

"i will be fine, trust me."

"Coalstone, you know very well that there are many dangers here. being here alone is very dangerous." Goldrune said.

"alright fine. stay if you want, but you shouldn't be here." he said. then he walked out of the room. Ironstone quickly followed, and Goldheart followed soon after. Goldrune turned to leave, but stopped when she noticed that Nightiron had not moved.

"something wrong?" she asked her.

"no, nothing's wrong, Goldrune..." she muttered.

"are you sure you're alright?"

"yes, i'm fine..." she said.

"alright then..." Goldrune said. then she followed the others. Nightiron sighed before she quietly walked after them.

Hmm im not sure but something doesnt seem right with coalstone.

yeah, and it seems that Nighiron feels the same way. i'll write more soon.

"we fianally made it." Artica said as they landed outside the small cave. the hatchling ran inside happily. the wolf walked towards the cave, and then turned around.

"thank you." he said to the young dragons. his mouth curved into a smile.

"you're welcome." Inferno said.

"you be careful now, ok?" Flare said, concerned. the wolf nodded.

"i will." he said.

"alright, alright. this is mussy enough. let's go already." Artica muttered.

"such an impatient pup." the wolf chuckled lightly.

"you get used to it." Inferno smiled.

"well, unfortunately, i will not have that privilage. our time together ends here. you all have more important matters at hand, and i have a baby dragon to feed."

"just one question, though, where did you get the hatchling? i mean, it's obvious he's not yours." Flare said.

"i found him as an egg." the wolf muttered, lowering his head.

"liar!" Artica blurted out. the wolf looked up with a guilty expression.

"something tells me she's right." Inferno said. the wolf sighed.

"there's a good reasno for that........and that's because.......she is right......"

"then tell us the truth." Flare said.

"the truth is............i stole the egg........" he admitted. Inferno and Flare gasped. Artica scoffed.

"who did you get the egg from?" Inferno asked.

"and why would you take it?" Flare added.

"and why am i still stuck listening to this conversation?" Artica muttered. the others looked at her. ".......uh......you wern't supposed to hear that......" she said. the others looked back at each other.

"those are good questions......." the wolf glanced at Artica. ".......and i'll give you the answers..........the truth is..........i stole the egg--"

"we know that already." Artica interupted.

"........from..............Anyanca........" the wolf finished, ignoring Artica's remark. Inferno and Flare gasped. Artica rolled her eyes.

"what?! why?! how?!" Flare asked.

"geez, Flare, you're acting like he killed somebody." Artica muttered.

"well, he didn't. i just want to know--"

"what?! why?! how?!" Artica mocked. "yeah, we know. heck, the whole forrest knows."

"anyway......" Inferno muttered, trying to get back on topic. "so, what's the story?" he asked the wolf.

"i once had a family......"

"what does that have to do with anything?" Artica moaned.

"well, if you would shut up, maybe you'd know." the wolf snarled.

"ok, geez..." Artica muttered.

"anyway.........i once had a family..........Anyanca had imprisoned my mate and my two pups.........in order to free them........i had to fulfill........a few tasks for her...........because i wanted my family to be free, i accepted the job..........though i would soon regret it.........first, the tasks were simple.........i would do the small chores that no other creature would want to do........though i tolerated it as long as i believed my family would not be harmed.........basically........i was a slave.........but then.........the jobs started to change........i started by gaurding small things........unimportant things........while i sat in one spot, i had no idea that my family was being tortured, and grilled for information............then.........i was given.........a job........that only the most trusted, most loyal, most dependable slave or minion could ever get.........a job......not only of great importance.......but failure.......would result.......in the most severe punishment........i was.......to watch...........an egg..........it was my duty to sit outside the hatchery, and gaurd the egg from anyone who would do it harm.......only the parents were allowed in........or so i was told.........i sat there for a long time........until.......a black dragon came......and gave me................the most horrible news............." he muttered. he lowered his head as a tear rolled down his cheek.
"...............my family........my beloved family........was dead..........they had tortued them to much, and had killed them............i was crushed.........and.................i was furious............they promished me they would not be harmed..........i slaved for them, and that was the thanks i got..........? i took my anger out on the dragon..........i went for the throat........my surprise attack was succesful.........with relative ease, i had slain the dragon........though, i had not known that he was simply a messenger.........he had done nothing wrong..........but i didn't care........my next course of action........i brust through the doors of the hatchery........and approached the egg.........i then grabbed the small, round, black object........and made my way out of the lair........i hid the egg in a small, brown bag that i wore on my side, and i easily made my escape.........i quickly made it back here, and got the egg out.........i set it down inside, and..........my oringinal plan.........was to smash it.........take the one thing that would hurt her............as much as she had hurt me..............but i couldn't..........the egg..........it started to hatch...........and then.........it was too late.........and the creature..........it was.......too cute........too innocent...........i couldn't possibly hurt it........no matter how uch his mother had pained me........so i vowed to protect the pup, and raise it as my own........i figured.......i could get justice that way........either it would pain her to not have her child........or i would feel better knowing that there was one less creature like her............or perhaps both..........either way.........the child.........was mine............but..........i was wrong..........Anyanca.........she had cared nothing for it.........i found that out from a snake i found passing through the forrest........he had told me that she has laid dozens of eggs............and has smashed every one of them........the ones that hatched..........she killed the moment they broke out of the egg.............from what i heard..........something was wrong with them........the snake believed she planned on killing this one too.............which is why she was not concerned when this one went missing.............i hadn't realized that i had saved this creature's life............and now i vow to protect it.........." he said, as he raised his head up.

wow this page explains alot, but who would mate with anyanca? And great chapter I loved this one the most especially articas sarcastic mood.

"yeah.........." Inferno muttered also. then the moment of silence was interrupted by snoring. everyone sharply turned their heads to see Artic fast asleep. "Artica..........Artica......." Inferno muttered, trying to wake her. "Artica!" he said louder, shaking her.

"huh.......? what.......? what'd i miss.......?" Artica muttered sleepily as she opened her eyes. she then looked around to see that everyone looked a bit upset. "what's wrong with you guys?" she asked, bluntly.

"you fell asleep." Inferno whispered.

"so what?"

"so what?! you are a rude pup for falling asleep while i tell my story!" the wolf growled.

"well, sorry, but you're story was BO-ring!"

"take that back!" the wolf growled angerly as he tackled her. Inferno snarled as he tackled the wolf, and pinned him to the ground.

"look, i don't care how bad of a life you've had, you do not, do NOT tackle my girlfriend! got it?!" he growled. Artica's eyes widened after he spoke.

"girlfriend?" she thought. then her mouth curved into a smile.

"then you had better do something about her attitude!" the wolf growled. Inferno growled softly, and let him up. he then looked at Artica, who blushed a little. Inferno wondered why until he had realized what he had said. he wasn't thinking at the time, and couldn't believe he had referred to Artica as his girlfriend. he then looked away as he smiled and his red cheeks began turning redder. Flare just sat there puzzled, and the wolf snarled as he sat.

"uh, we need to be going now....." Flare muttered, breaking the ice. the wolf scoffed.

"then get going." he grumbled as he headed inside the cave.

"ok, then....." Flare muttered, getting up. then Inferno and Artica smiled as they followed Flare through the forrest.

dang artica is fiesty... shesh big time. great chapter

yep. anyway, i'll write more i feel like it. i might, i might not. though i probally will. i usually end up writing mroe if i have nothing else to do.

Goldrune and the others walked down the hall in silence. Coalstone led the way with the young dragons right behind him. Goldrune followed behind them, occasionally looking back to see Nightiron trailing behind, appearing to be deep in thought with a worried expression on her face. then Coalstone stopped at a dead end. everyone else stopped, looking ahead at the dead end.

"we have to turn back." Coalstone said, turning around.

"are you sure there is no secret entrance?" Goldrune asked.

"positive." he replied. then Ironstone approached the wall, and put his paw up on it. then suddenly, the wall began to move, and it slid open, revealing a secret passageway. everyone turned to see it.

"i thought you said there was nothing there." Goldrune said, a bit suspicious.

"i guess i wasn't looking in the right places." he said.

"well, let's carry on." she said, leading the way. the boys followed behind her. Nightiron glanced at Coalstone before quietly following them. Coalstone sat quietly for a moment, frowning in disgust.

"Coalstone, come on! we can't stay here!" Goldrune called.

"i'm coming." he grumbled to himself. then he followed, reluctantly. hours passed as the group walked up and hallways. then they found themselves in a dungeuon.

"everyone keep a look-out. he could be in here." Goldrune said, looking all around them. the dungeuon was dark and quiet. it appeared to be empty, except for the rats and spiderwebs. they then walked to the back wall, and then they gasped at what they saw. chained to the wall, was Goldscale. his body lay motionless on the ground with chains locked tightly around his limbs to keep him from moving.
"oh, my goodness, Goldscale." she muttered softly, a tear rolling down her cheek. she knealt down beside him, and tried to free him from the chains.
"i can't free him." she said, turning to the others.

"can anyone breathe ice?" Nightiron asked.

"Artica can..." Goldheart sighed, knowing she wasn't nearby.

"can't elders breathe ice?" Ironstone asked.

"not all of them can. i am not one that has that ability. Goldscale has it though." Goldrune answered.

"if Goldscale can breathe ice, then maybe..." Nightiron thought. then everyone turned to Goldheart.

"why is everyone looking at me?" he asked.

"Goldheart, try breathing ice." Ironstone said.

"what? no! i can't breathe ice." he said.

"maybe you can. your dad can." he told him.

"but i haven't learned how. what if i mess up?"

"honey, i know you can do it. just relax, take a deep breath, and concentrate. you've learned to do so much already, i know you will do just fine." his mother assured him. Goldheart sighed.

"ok......i'll try....." he said. she nodded. Goldheart walked up to Goldscale, and took a deep breath.
"here goes nothing....." he muttered. he took another deep breath, closed his eyes, and then he shot an ice shard at the chains.

"you did it, Goldheart!" his mother said, happily. he then opened his eyes to see that the chains were frozen.

"i did it....." he said, cracking a smile. then Goldrune broke the chains.

"good job!" Ironstone smiled.

"well done, dear." Nightiron smiled.

"thanks..." he said. Goldrune looked at Coalstone.

"i'll need you to carry him." she said.

"uh, why? i mean, can't you do it?" he asked, seeming as if he didn't want to carry Goldscale.

"i'm not strong enough to lift him." she said.

"well, then, can't Nightiron help you?"

"what? Coal, i can't lift him either. and you've never suggested that i lift something that is too much for me to handle." she said.

"well, uh, i'm sure you two can manage carrying yourselves. i mean, together you should be strong enough."

"but it would be best if you carried him." Goldrune said.

"you're his mate, you should carry him."

"well, you're his friend, and you have more brute strenght than me and Nightiron. just carry him."

"fine." he muttered. then he lifted Goldscale onto his back.
"happy?" he scoffed. then he walked off in silence. the young dragons folloed slowly, a bit confused. Goldrune looked at Nightiron who started to cry.

"Night, what's wrong?" she asked, concerned. Nighiron raised her head, and looked at Goldrune.

"that......isn't Coalstone......." she sobbed.

Finally she figured it out, I knew it that aint him, hmm i bet i know how it is too.Nice job cynder glad you made another chapter.

"so, you feel that same way?" Goldrune asked.
"pardon...?" Nightiron asked, slightly confused.
"Coalstone. i sensed something was wrong. i've known him for years, and he's never acted that way."
"i've known him longer......."
"i know. and i figure you sensed something was wrong before i did." she said. Night nodded.
"are you two coming, or what?" Coalstone asked, walking up to them from the shadows. he spoke in a low, unemotional tone, as if he cared for nothing. he still carried Goldscale on his back. Goldheart and Ironstone listened from the shadows. Nightiron looked him in the eyes.
"what is wrong with you?" she asked.
"what do you mean?" he asked.
"you're not yourself. i'm just worried."
"don't be. there's nothing wrong with me." he said. he started to walk away.
"i didn't say that. i said, you are not yourself." she said. he stopped, then slowly turned back around.
"same thing." he said.
"no. what i meant, was that you are not Coalstone."
"you're crazy. of course i'm Coalstone. don't you know your own mate?"
"i do. i know him well. and you arn't him. i sensed something was wrong from the beginning. i just didn't know what. now i know for sure. you can't be him. you show no signs of having a heart, where Coalstone clearly showed his. now reveal to me who you are." she said. Coalstone set Goldscale down on the ground. he walked over to Nighiron, and looked her in the eyes.
"i am Coalstone. so what if i'm a bit grumpy. that doesn't mean anything."
"it does to me. if you really are my mate, than prove it. prove to me that you are truly Coalstone." she said. he hesistated for a moment. then he closed his eyes, and kissed her. the kiss seemed forced, and it only lasted a moment.
"well?" he asked. Nighiron riased her paw, and then slapped his cheek.
"how dare you kiss me! only my mate has such a priviledge! you are not Coalstone!"
"yes, i am! why don't you believe me?"
"let's start with the kiss, it was all wrong. Coalstone does not kiss like that. yours was forced, as if you disliked the thought of kissing me. plus, it was too short."
"that's all? not every guy can be romantic all the time."
"maybe not, but at least Coalstone was gentle about it."
"what do you mean by that?" he asked. Nightiron hesistated to answer. "well? if you can't even answer me, then--" he was then interrupted. Nightiron had kissed him. the kiss was smooth, gentle, and lasted longer than the last. Coalstone returned the kiss, as if he enjoyed it. Nightiron then pulled away, and thier eyes met.
"now that.......was a kiss....." she said. Coalstone blinked his eyes.
"...w--w--what was i saying.......?" he asked. his voice seemed to have changed a bit. it was softer now.
"nothing. i was just showing you what a real kiss was. then you were going to tell me who you really are."
"well, i'm Coalstone."
"no, you're not."
"yes, i am. why would you kiss me if i wasn't?" he asked. she hesistated to answer. "my point exactly." he finished.
"you seem.......diffrent now......"
"what do you mean?" he asked. "how dare you kiss me!" he shouted. his voice was dark now.
"what?" she asked, confused.
"you kissed me!" he spat, as if disgusted.
"Coalstone......?" she asked.
"you know what? i'm tired as heck of pretending!" he snarled. "i'm not Coalstone! my real name.............is............Xerxes......." he said

I knew it!!! but wait i think coalstone is still in there somewhere. Glad she knew his mate very well. I like where this is heading towards.
