This topic is all about shiny Pokemon! The topic will tell you the different ways to catch shinies and all that kind of stuff. (And yes I know that there is a Pokemon topic already)


Pokemon Chaining

You'll need:
1. PokeRadar
2. Pokeballs
3. Lots of Max Repels (over 120)
4. Strong Pokemon (with enough PP)
5. Pokemon to lower shinies health down
6. PP restoring items ( Leppa Berries, etc.)

To Start Chaining:
1. Go find a spot to go (somewhere the grass patch takes up almost the whole screen)
2. Go to your items and use a Max Repel
3. Use the PokeRadar
4. You will see several grass patches that shake
5. Keep using the PokeRadar until you find the Pokemon you want
6. Go into battle
7. Catch the Pokemon or faint it
8. Several grasses shake after battle

Rules For Chaining:
1. Only choose a patch of grass if there are four grasses shaking
2. After the first patch of grass you choose, all other patches must shake the same way. If not, you will break the chain!
3. Never choose the patch of grass that forces you out of the radars range
4. Only choose a patch of grass thats farthest away from you and is at least 4 patches away
5. When using another repel, never choose a patch of grass until you reset the radar
6. Never choose a patch of grass that is on a corner (be careful around the outside edges as well)
7. Avoid patches of grass if they are beside other moving patches
8. When you aren't sure, reset the radar
9. Don't run away or let it flee
10. Don't use your bike
11. If you see a patch of grass that sparkles a different color, it's most likely a shiny

Resetting the radar:
It needs to be recharged every 50 steps. Only use the radar if you didn't find a patch that fit your needs. To reset it, you'll have to move 50 spaces and when you are done use the radar!

Tips & Tricks:
Swarm Pokemon are a good starting point if you start chaining!
Try not to enter the patch directly above your character
App #20 is very helpful (only for Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum)
If you chain, don't turn off the power because you will break the chain
A chain of 40 will get you the highest chance possible

The patches that are in the 4's are most likely the same Pokemon
The X's are telling you to not go in them!

Note: Pokemon Shiny Chaining is only available in Diamond, Pearl, And Platinum

Found a wild Shiny Feebas on Emerald!

Found a wild Shiny Tentacruel on Platinum!

Here's the ways to get Shiny Legendaries:

1. Get to them.

2. Save near them.

3. Battle them.

4. If they aren't shiny, reset the game.

5. Repeat. It may take over 100 tries, though.

Shiny pokemon are found completely by luck! You may play pokemon for 10 years and never find one.

As for where you most likely find them, there is no specific place to look for shinies

I have found 2 legit shinies.

1: Leaf Green - Safari Zone - Rhyhorn
Found it, nerdgasamed, then it fled and I raged for hours.

2: Black - Route 9 - Audino
was making the grass shake to fight Audino to train my team as Audino gives a ton of exp. Randomly found a shiny Audino and was too overpowered to fight it. So I chuked an Ultra Ball at it and it caught.

I have terrible luck with shinies.
I got a shiny Totodile after 6 SRs but had to reset my HeartGold for it.
I've gotten a few on Pokémon Rumble and my Wii Remote save data was corrupted with them on it. I think they were Tangela, Fearow, Paras, Diglett, and a few others.

My friend got a Golduck on his SoulSilver as I watched him capture it, and we also got a shiny Lucario together on Rumble.

I used to hunt shinies, then I took reality to the knee and just gave up after spending about 3 years trying to get a Drifloon.

Well, i got a shiny Gyarados

I caught a shiny solosis, then i clicked power without saving >___>
I also found a shiny geodude in Pearl, which is now a shiny Golem in my black version.

Well, I have a bit of luck in random finds.

Krickitune (F): I was training my Torterra I belive around hearthome city and as I was training it (which was in like it's 40-50s) I stumbled upon a shiny yellow krickitune. I asked myself and my brother if krickitunes are normally yellow, then is sparkled. So at last minute of the last pokeball I had before she died of recoil. I caught her.

and that is how I only found one shiny out in the wild. Without a radar.

The only shiny I ever caught was a shiny tranquil and I was trying to go into the next city and I had to go into a section of grass and the tranquil stopped me! Wow, was I glad I didn't use a repel

1/8,152 or using the Shiny Charm in Black 2 and White 2, it increased the chance to 300% the normal rate, which is now 1/2,370.6, but If you're using Masuda Method, it comes out from 1/1,365.3, to 1/1,024.

I found about almost 10 shinies in a few months i got a shint zigzagoon and numel in my ruby and i traded it to my friends emerald so she made loads of copies of them i got a shiny poocheyana, Pichu, and starly from my Platinum a shiny patrat on my japan black 2 version and a shiny krokodile on my black version but it was on my white when i reseted it oh well but it pnly took me a few eggs about 83 then it was shiny now i'm thinking about chaining for a shiny scyther instead of breeding for one because i have about 423 now and still no shiny I plan on giving some away at nationals

I've only ever found one shiny... an Oddish in the Safari Zone on Sapphire xD I had no idea what it was, but it ran away anyway :/

This topic is here to mock me, isn't it? Been playing Pokémon since '98 and I only have the Shiny Gyarados and Haxorus. >.<

When I was young a had a lv 100 Infernape. I found a shiny Hippowdon. I had no masterballs left.

I once was playing FireRed, was going through Viridian Forest, BOOM SHINY CATERPIE COMES OUT, I PRESSED RUN.....

I caught a shiny........Sandslash......At first I thought it was female (Since some females have a color change?) In the Desert Resort of Black 2

Same thing happened with a Hippopotas but that was sadly female......

An item in Pokemon Platinum that made Shinys easier to find by "Chaining"

I found I shiny Tentacool before.I did not know what it was so I killed it and got my Typhlosion to level 100.

I have the Red Gyarados from HeartGold and a Shiny Shinx from Pearl

I have wayyyy to many shinies to count but i found a random shiny patrat in my black 2. It was adorable and female :3

All Missingno. found in Pearl, have the Shiny sparkles. It's part of their glitched coding.

I've never seen one.

It's also in Diamond and Pearl, so you have either one of them, I think you can still do it.

I've only caught one shiny, a Herdier. Was looking for a hidden item somewhere in Driftveil.

I have found 2 shiny's in my LIFE. One was a shiny golbat in ruby, that I failed to catch because I ran out of pokeballs and the other was a shiny jiggly puff in white and I did catch this one.

I've found one Shiny in my Poke-Life

A shiny Wurmple in Pokemon Emerald.

That means your giving them hacked pokemonvon to a legit game card which could probaly ruin them I hate action replay's and if you use it you won't be able to play in any other kind of events (as in pokemon VGC world etc.) or any wifi except the wifi club that's what i heard from my friend who used AR on his pearl and it wrecked it so he had to restart it all over again and he threw his AR away

I have found 1 legit shiny.


Pidgey right beside the Nugget Bridge. Not even laughing. i won a Shiny Archen and Abra through a Pokemon Forum trade board giveaway.

Once i was dashing through some grass and a patrat came up and it was shiny I was like "OH MY HAY"

Also I hatched a shiny pichu

I hatched a female Treeko....close enough

I have a shiny lily pad thing from white forest. I forgot his name.

Except for the red Gyarados, I only have two real shinies. I have both of them in SoulSilver, both found along the Victory Road route. I had been training my team there for some time before facing the league. I wasn't even looking for shinies, or any kind of Pokemon to catch. I just wanted to level up my team. I found a shiny Ponyta somewhere close to the rest stop house and caught it. I found a shiny Golbat in the cave area before the league and caught it as well. I haven't trained them or anything, but it's just nice knowing I was lucky enough to find them and catch them. I was surprised, because I never get lucky. I thought I'd never see a shiny, except for Gyarados.
