Volcanic Vault World Tour

VVPS (Volcanic Vault Positioning System) BETA:
[User Posted Image]

Congrats to Toleroh, ItsJustMe, JuLeDoS, Madel, gman2001, Himewad, Jack Sinatra, TubSinabs14, Flamethrower, joedelta, squirrels, and cooljmc7! It'll be heading to toaks next!

Here's a short video from JuLeDoS where he helps explain some important details about the Volcanic Vault World Tour and shows what to expect,

Interested participants, please read the following:

  • The North American sign ups are officially closed and the list has been finalized. There will be no further entries for North America.
  • Only the RFID tag for the Volcanic Vault is being sent, not the Volcanic Vault figure.
  • The Volcanic Vault does not work on the 3DS, but will work on the PC version according to fanjo despite what was previously reported, thanks for the info fanjo!
  • You will be required to pay for postage (and possibly a replacement envelope if it gets worn) in order to get the letter to the next person safely and in a timely manner.
  • Feel free, of course, if you have local friends who are also into Skylanders to help them to unlock the stage as well, but please do not send it to anyone that is not on the list, which will be provided in the main topic in the future.
  • The next person scheduled to receive the VV will contact you via PM with their mailing address.
  • If you are a minor or are under the age of 18, please inform your parents and ask for their consent to participate.

As for the official list, it is as follows and has been purposefully organized in a way where participants (in the US, so far) are an unreasonable travel distance from one another.

Quote:
North America:

  • Toleroh: Ohio, Received 6/9
  • ItsJustMe: New Hampshire, Received 6/15
  • JuLeDoS: North Carolina, Received 6/19
  • Madel: Florida, Received 6/23
  • gman2001: Oklahoma, Received 6/28
  • Himewad: Iowa, Received 7/7
  • Jack Sinatra: New York, Received 7/23
  • TubSinabs14: California, Received 8/11
  • Flamethrower: British Columbia, Received 8/28
  • joedelta: California, Received 9/8
  • squirrels: Oregon, Received 9/22
  • cooljmc7: Colorado, Received 9/30
  • toaks: California
  • lucidity0001: Wisconsin
  • judasghost: Louisiana
  • dwattzdrummer: Pennsylvania
  • Monsinour: New York

The UK and Australian list is currently incomplete and will be compiled just before the North American tour is over. If you have requested to be a part of the UK tour, you will be contacted via PM to verify your interest.

United Kingdom:

  • Geekycat: Wigan, England
  • Deandria: England
  • Toyger: Southampton, England

Australia:

  • drummerw: New South Wales

Bolded entries are locked in their positions.

If you have requested entry and your name isn't on the list, unless you're located in NA, you're still under consideration and will be added if and when you qualify. Entries are based on Gem count and forum participation.

For anyone still interested in participating in the Volcanic Vault World Tour outside of North America, you can still sign up! If you are interested, what I'll need for now are for you to just post the state/province and country you live in, no other info please, no names, no addresses, no e-mail, no phone, just the state/province and country. When it is your turn, you will give your address to the person who is in possession of the Vault. I'm going to try to organize and order a list of where to send it, but I don't want everyone posting their personal info on here.

Only the person before you on the list will have your address instead of having it posted everywhere in order to keep things mostly private.

How about custom painting it? Then at least you get some enjoyment from it. And that would make an even better gift for someone.

@Geekycat: I think for anyone else, that'd be a great suggestion, but I don't need to gain any further enjoyment from it. What I'd enjoy is knowing that I helped out at least 1 other person out there that is looking for this. I'm not interested in painting it...especially since I lack painting and artistic skills. Also, I don't know if others can attest to this, but I think if I were to customize it...especially if it came out well (incredibly unlikely as I lack artistic skill), I'd gain more of an attachment to the piece and would be less likely to give it away.

I like the pay it forward idea. Take the RFID chip out and mail it to ppl. I would like to see VV and I would gladly mail it to someone else once I place it on my portal. Plus if its only the chip you can put it in a plain white envelope and only pay for a stamp to mail it. Hell Id even include a stamp so the next person can mail it forward =)

Pay it Forward idea is top tier. Rather than completely destroying the figure, I think the best option, sort of like what Jack said is to just pass around the RFID chip. You *should* be able to cut the actual vault off the green base, and just pass that base around.

I'm definitely leaning towards a Volcanic Vault World Tour idea myself. I have a question that maybe someone more in the know could answer for me. Is the RFID chip durable enough to travel around without the rest of the Vault? There's not much point in sending it around that way if the information could possibly get damaged.

If it is going on World Tour though, I'll probably have a sign up list...screen name plus rough geographical location. Due to overseas shipping, I think it should hit those who want it in NA first before making it travel overseas...because chances good...due to shipping costs, it won't be coming back home.

I've been made aware that some places ...such as Australia and maybe Canada have never had them available.

While I'm still thinking of the details on how to organize such a thing... If there are a few more people that think this is a good idea or are interested, share your opinion and we can more than likely make it a reality.

If you're concerned about its durability you could always mount the RFID tag on something solidish but light... like plastic... maybe an old loyalty card or expired gift token card. Superglue or epoxy would work... don't hot glue as it could potentially damage it.

The only problem I could forsee is sending it internationally... mail is xrayed in most countries and if they see "wires" and no customs note they could think it's something dodgy.

The opening post has been updated and sign ups are beginning! The VV is going on a World Tour, but there are a few details that need ironing out first. If there are those with the know how of what would be the correct process of what to do, please post your suggestions below.

For those interested in participating in the VV World Tour, read the OP carefully and post only your state/province and country below, thanks!

Yeah I suggested something useful smilie

I had an idea as to how this could work, I assume sykotek will be starting. Anyway place the VV in a padded envelope. Seal up the envelope. Using a spare piece of paper, write reciever's address and tape this on to the front. Don't forget a return address, just in case! When the VV has been recieved, the reciever can scan the padded envelope, remove their address and write up the new address.

If the sheet is large enough to cover the from of the envelope, then it might be easier as all the stamps and previous addresses could be removed in one go, leaving a sealed up VV ready for the next person.

I love this idea. I've often wished for something similar to unlock all the heroic challenges for my small character collection since I don't plan on getting every Skylander. I'd contribute the RFID of a figure if it looked like others would benefit but everyone else on this forum might already have a full set. smilie

@Buzzthebatgirl: I think the unopened padded envelope is a fantastic suggestion. Currently, the estimate is that it'll probably cost me about $5 to start it on the way and if others keep it sealed and only replace the label then it should hopefully only cost around $2-3 max to continue sending it on its way for the duration it is in the continental US.

@squirrels and @biohazard28: Thank you for your interest and my sincerest apologies. I don't mean to delay inclusion to anyone, but you two are still newer users and don't meet the minimum criteria just yet. Please, keep up with your contributions to the darkSpyro forums and I can add you to the list in the future.

Sorry, this post is definitely all over the place. If anyone has any further suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate hearing them. Thanks!

@sykotek I don't mind not being included yet. I've lurked here for a long time but never had anything worthwhile to add since I'm not as clever as a lot of people here, I can't track Skylanders figures for sale or talk knowledgeably about all the previous Spyro games. I only just now made an account so your suspicion is totally fair. smilie

@squirrels: Yeah, I'm glad you understand. It's just a not yet, I'm not excluding you or any other new users for that matter, I'm just temporarily holding off on including you guys on the list for now...any new users who are interested in joining the VV World Tour still shouldn't hesitate and should definitely mention it here though.

As for the mentioned minimal "requirements" for new users or something,

  • Gems you get those for just posting...your amount goes up every week.
  • Contributing doesn't mean finding great deals or anything like that, just contributing to conversations and topics. A quick search will easily verify whether someone is just posting to minimally increase their weekly Gems count or whether they are truly contributing to conversations and community.

I have some other neat things I'm thinking about that I'm thinking might be cool, but first things first, gotta make sure enough people are actually interested in even being a part of this tour.

@joedelta: Technically speaking, you can, but since Adventure sets are being sold in stores, I don't think that's such a good idea. I don't recommend doing something like this for anything else. The Volcanic Vault isn't being sold via retail currently and it really does nothing special except to reskin a stage and then there's literally no use for it afterwards.

@henryszuch: I agree with Deandria on this one, share with the most people possible I'd say, if you have neighbors and friends who are into Skylanders too and could use it unlocked, you should also help them unlock it too before sending it on, just make sure you take responsibility and send it promptly to the next person on the list after you are done with it.

Just in case anyone was worried about whether this was still going on or not, I assure you, it is.

[User Posted Image]

Even better news, since I was able to free up the RFID, the costs to reship it to another person on the list (at least in the continental US) should be pretty minimal, perhaps at most an envelope (if needed) and the price of a stamp...which is much cheaper than prior estimates.

That also eliminates the need to require prior payment before sending it off, I'll eat the cost of the first stamp, so it'll be up the the holder to pay for it to move on. That should open this up to others in case that was the main sticking point for not signing up.

Testing it so far (in the envelope) has worked just fine. I've attached the RFID itself to a card and left a note linking it back to this post in case any mail handlers think it's "funny" and wants to check it out for security reasons.

Anyways, as always, if there are any questions or comments, please leave them. If anyone is interested in signing up, please do. I'll be contacting one of the sign ups before the end of the week for their address to start this thing on it's way. smilie
