is this the end of spyro? [CLOSED]

For a long time (several years), no trailers, no information on the new spyro game ... is this the end? Is the story will continue to be pulled? Do we have to say goodbye to our favorite purple?

I sincerely think this Spyro's Kingdom game is going to be released. There's so much reliable evidence pointing to it, so I don't think it's the end for Spyro. However, if this game fails, then I do believe it will be the end for Spyro, but i'm staying optimistic.

God I hope not. I'm still skeptical about Spyros Kingdom, yes there is proof true, but look at the Legend of Spyro 3D? Proof of its existence, but cancelled and we sisnt even know it! And anyone can alter a spreadsheet, personally I didn't see the release date on the update.

Kingdom will be his last chance. Odds are that if that fails, he'll probably get one more game on the 3DS, and he'll be history, like Crash.

So Spyro isn't dead.....yet. But AV is this close to killing the franchise. They need to find a good developer, and they need to hype it just as much as they do to CoD.

Actually, there was no way to edit the Dutch game spreadsheet. They made it so that no way can change it.

I expect the'd try and sell it if SK flopped, but I expect the AAA treatment is Activision's last attempt to try and get Spyro popular and get money out of it. If it does flop it may severely effect how other potential franchise buyers react if/when Activision tries to sell the rights. If the other companies learn that they put so much time effort and money into it just to have it flop regardless, chances are no one will see hope for it and thus decide not to buy it, and subsequently Spyro will die.

When a trailer is released, is it usually found by fans on YouTube before anything else like the TV, or what? If you understand what I'm asking..

Usually they get the trailer from a gaming site, like GameSpot or GameTrailers, then post the video on YT.

That thought gives me chills... But has Crash, well, crashed yet? I mean, he didn't get a game when Spyro got DotD, and all he's got recently is an iPod Nitro Kart game (a bad one, too, I have it >.>) although I was glad to see that the original designs for the characters were used over the newer designs, but I doubt AV would bring the franchise back to it's roots.

How much money did ANB, TEN and DotD make, anyway? I always thought of them as financially successful, and I don't see why AV would consider ditching him...

IDK about money, but I think ANB and TEN sold under one million units each and DotD sold about 1.5 million. But I'm not 100% certain so don't quote me on that.
The classics sold anywhere from 3 to 5 million units each, but again I'm unsure of that, so don't quote me.
I'll go find more accurate numbers now.

Hmmm... I always thought of ANB being a good seller, seeing as it was hugely hyped and got a platinum edition. TEN... Not so much. But those figures for DotD seem about right. Probabley because Sierra brought in a wider audience with a playable, cutesy purple Cynder, methinks.

^ Yeah.

I'm going to be a bastard here and look at this:

DotD sold around 700k-1 mil copies (that's an assumption).

MW2 sold 20 mil worldwide, is the best selling game of all time in the UK, and the second best selling game of all time in the US.

The publisher of both games is AV. It's complete proof that AV cares more about hyping CoD instead of all of the other franchises they have.

Unfortunately, yup...

But I think it's disgusting that AV should think about ditching Goonro despite not even publishing one game of his yet; and I don't count DotD. I don't understand today's game audiences, cashing out on MW2 mainly because of peer pressure- my friend doesn't even like it that much, but he plays it all of the time because his friends are obsessed with it.

Oh I guarantee they'll release this game, but I can also garantee that if SK fails (and I mean REALLY fails) they'll sell it, and if the other companies don't see any potential in Spyro, that'll be the end of him...

They should have kept it undercover and revealed it as a 3DS title, among other consoles. The 3DS is getting a lot of hype, so doing that could have saved Spyro.

I guess that you can't untie one knot of the past without untying the whole rope. smilie

I haven't got high hopes it will happen, but I don't want Estranges to make the next game. Looking at some of their developments, not only do they tend to have small titles, but they tend to always re-use gameplay from their developments nowadays. *points at the HTTYD game*

Spyro will never go, at least not for a long time. Why? Because the character is quite famous and even if Spyro's Kingdom is pulled or a flop, some other company will most likely buy the license and make they're own game. Profitable and easier because it is an already set series.
