Do you prefer the old way the Spyro games were, where you find Gems, beat the bosses and find all sorts of stuff with different levels and it was pretty easy or do you prefer the whole new look, and way the game is now? Why?
I prefer the old game version better because it was alot easier and I just...miss it. I don't like how they changed it, it kind of ruined it for me. What about you? I still love the games though! Gotta Luv Spyro!

I found and still do find all of 'em pretty easy, finished all the console ones to 100 percent or close enough to it. I'd have to say I like both but I find the TLoS is a bit better 'cause of its story. I just hope they find a way to mix the two, both in series and game style.

The elder games were good if you like a good collectathon, but at the end of the day it won't really survive very long on the sixth generation consoles, when new genres were being explored on and the platform genre seemed to have been exhausted to death. I'm glad the new direction was taken - something fresh to take in while considering the power of the machine at the same time. So I can say I like both equally.

To be frank?
I always hated collectathon games. I always found them to be quite empty and overall devoid of interest. I always prefered games which emphasize set goals over setting foot on every single silly pixel of a map in order to consider it cleared. Not to say that the old games aren't good ; what they do, they execute very well... extremely well even. ... but if going by premise alone, TLOS appeal more to me... and well, since the TLOS games are actually very good (the only really serious complaint being the games' length), the TLOS games win to me. Of course, this is mostly based on my own personnal tastes but well, I prefer the new games (although, as usual, I must give honorable mentions to the old ones for being nice games). |

This section is about personal tastes, so I've decided I prefer the TLoS series for it's good story and styalised (I mispelled that didn't I) combat. 'Course a little collecting is pretty fun, especially for bonuses but not when it's the goal of the game.

I liked the old series the best, but it was as long as it was Insomniac behind the wheel. They developed this great expansive world, and in my youth I really admired it. Hints of the magic started to drop since then - Season of Ice was cool enough as it was (pun intended!) had it not been for its intense difficulty. Most of the following games tended to break away the magic due to Ripto coming in as a recurring villain and nothing original being thrown in anymore, and that ended up dipping things down in terms of passion. Not even the inclusion of Red in A Hero's Tail made me feel that bit more optimistic, as the feel felt more suited for a younger audience than originally intended now and that there was no way to tailor a platformer in the modern day world as shown there.
Thus, when it comes to the post-Insomniac titles, I seemed to feel more optimistic over the Legend arc. A New Beginning, while a little on the easy side, seemed to help break in some fresher ground when it comes to the gameplay and general presentation; while it did seem it would look more intended for an older audience than the Insomniac version, I was just glad enough that the series was starting to grow with the times. And when The Eternal Night came out, I was equally happy that various issues from A New Beginning were addressed, notably concerns relating to the difficulty (and lack thereof) and some more puzzles thrown into the mix. I know some people somehow started to show dissatisfaction with that title eventually, but I seem to be happy enough. |

It is pretty clear that I like old games better. First of all the old Spyro games from the first to Hero's Tail had the classic Spyro feel but when they changed series they took it away. But now let me say something about the differences in game level.
The old games had more challenge and better joystick controls and also better ways to move. When you collected those gems, dragons, dragon eggs etc. etc. you worked hard to get everything from the game. That gave the logical reason to play the game to the end. Also this joystick system, press X to jump, press O to torch, use square to run, was nice because you had to hold square and press x to make it nicely through the levels. Also these moves, horn dive, glide and hover, spear, were comfortable. Also multiple characters you could play kicked some serious sorceress butt! The new games have messed these things up right now. The senseless beating and going forward without any "good" purpose came into the image, which is STUPID for games like Spyro; games that have originally been dedicated to good old fashion collect-beat bosses-collect game genre. I mean really! This senseless beating through the levels to reach the main boss is ridiculous. It has taken the "Spyro soul" away.

Dude, the "Spyro Soul" was already taken away when Ripto became a recurring character. Slowly but surely the pieces have been coming back, but it'll never be at the majesty that the Insomniac games were.

Well the Ripto never actually died so it was logical move to storyline and that's why you cannot say that Return of the Ripto ruined "Spyro soul". But I agree that the Insomniac majesty cannot be reached anymore. I would have loved to see Spyro games Insomniac would have been able to create for PS2/XBOX/GC. And by the way, isn't this "Spyro soul" thing quite personal thing and how the player feels it?

I like both consepts:
The old spyro games could get a little boring at times cause you have to find alle those gems, but i love the level design insomniac made for the game. The new ones can get a little monotonic at times, but i just love the story behind the game and the design of the charakters.

But there are to reasons I prefer the original Spyro games. 1. Because they last that much longer before you clock them. 2. Spyro is hot in the original games... How dare you accuse me of having a secret crush on Spyro! Secrets and lies I tell you! SE-CRETS AND LIE-S!!!!
