Malefor lay curled in a ball on the ground. He had a glowing gold chain around his neck, which kept him tied to the wall. He cried softly, knowing that the rest of the world hated him. But he accepted it, as punishment for what he did. In fact, he thought it wasn't enough. Malefor was in the Purple realm, the land purple dragons go to when they die. Everything looks as usual, with a slight purple glow, but the dead purple dragons go unnoticed to the rest of the world. Except one. The other purple dragons gave Malefor odd looks as they went passed, or just moved away. Malefor felt a bright flash, and he was out of the purple realm. Only then did he notice the white dragon staring at him, concerned.

"Why do you keep slipping in and out of the purple realm?" the white dragon asked.
"I never truly died, I was pulled down by the spirits of the past fallen purple dragons. Though I should have died." Malefor replied, turning his head away at the last sentence.
"But..... why are you chained to that wall? Did the purple dragons do that?" The white dragon asked.
"No.... I did..... I don't want to hurt anyone anymore.... if I slip into the real world, I am a threat." Malefor replied.
"But it's over! You gave your powers to me and......" the white dragon spoke once more.
"No, do you realise what I did? I sent armies to destroy the world, destroy the eggs of unborn dragons and.... I corrupted Cynder and stole away precious years of her childhood......" Malefor said, beggining to weep again. The white dragon stood silent for a moment, then walked away. Malefor slumped his head on the ground, and was back in the purple realm, still chained to the wall, with only a small amount of moving space.

Malefor looked around, then slowly drifted into sleep. Malefor began having a flashback dream.
*Flashback*
In the dragon grotto, there were lots of eggs. But two of them were placed next to eachother, seperate from the rest, because they were purple. The previous chronicler had sensed a new age beginning, so a new chronicler took his place. Even this new wise chronicler wasn't too sure why the eggs were purple, but he said one had an aura of darkness and the other had an aura of light.
One of the eggs hatched. Malefor was born, a cute little.... purple..... hatchling. Everyone was puzzled, not knowing the new dragon's element. A week later, the second dragon hatched into a white female dragon with purple eyes, who was later named Melanie. The other dragons guessed Melanie was a light, ice or wind dragon. As years passed, Melanie and Malefor grew up to be quite good friends. They discovered that they actually controlled multiple elements and were very special. Melanie could weakly control all the elements except the extremely powerful convexity, or 'purple', which Malefor could. Malefor could control a few other elements, such as fire, ice, shadow and fear.
One day though, Melanie noticed Malefor acting odd. Malefor was using his powers to play dirty tricks on others. The two friends sat near the silver river, where many young dragons played in the water to cool off.
"Watch this Melanie!" Malefor whispered, grinning evilly. He froze the river in a flick of a finger, leaving the screaming hatchlings stuck.
"MALEFOR! What was that for?" Melanie yelled. She rarely yelled, but something was wrong with her friend. Malefor just flew away, while Melanie melted the river with fire. Later, Malefor became worse. He started forest fires, struck the temple with lightning, and even scared away all the friendly animals and dragonflies with his powerful fear breath. When the guardians tried to stop him..... he fought back, nearly killing them all.

That's when they had only one choice. They trained melanie all the elements, with all they knew, until she was twice as powerful as possibly imagined. She was more powerful than malefor, but could control herself. Then the day came. As a storm of darkness raged above, Malefor flew to the largest nearby mountain- the one we now call the mountain of Malefor. He smirked horribly, knowing that if he destroyed the mountain, half of the city would go with it.
"STOP!" A farmilliar voice called. Melanie stood there, looking fierce and more powerful than ever.
"Ahahahaaa! With all this power in my hands, do you think I would just sit around sniffing flowers all day? I can destroy this pitiful world, and no dragon can stop me!" Malefor laughed.
"Yes. I. Can." Melanie whispered. She balanced onto her hind legs in a heroic pose, as glowing balls of all colours circled her. The colours turned to white, and circled faster. they began circling malefor aswell.
"What is this?" Malefor said, annoyed.
"FOR DRAGONKIND!" Melanie screamed. Blinding white light exploded from all directions, covering the entire planet. Malefor realised what it was. An elemental fury. The glow eventually wore off, and Malefor was sealed in the mountain by magic. Dragons slowly crept out from their hiding spots. Unfortunately, without the ability to control the purple element, Melanie had become a golden statue, laying peacefully on the spot. It had amethyst eyes, and the crystaly she wore remained around her neck.
*End flashback*
Malefor woke up, sweating, with tears in his eyes.
"I'm a monster...." He groaned.

Malefor forced himself into sleep again. He was haunted by more memories.

*Flashback*
Many millenia(Sp?) later, Malefor had escaped from his mountain prison and unleashed the destroyer to... destroy. But there was hope. A purple dragon named Spyro, and his friend Cynder, who had been Malefor's slave. After much effort, and much loss, they came to the point were they were face-to-face with Malefor himself. After battling to the point were they thought Malefor may just be undefeatable, a miracle happened- the stature that was once Melanie was melanie once again.
"You cannot defeat me, I am eternal!" Malefor yelled. The spirits of the other purple dragons, who had fallen trying to defeat Malefor, rose from the ground below. So did Melanie. Melanie slammed Malefor onto the ground and looked deep into his fierce yellow eyes.
"Do you see what you've done?" She whispered to him.
"You've taken the lives of the innocent. Caused pain which cannot be healed. Sent armies to destroy eggs of unborn baby dragons before they have a chance to see daylight. You even captured Cynder, making her your personal slave, while her precious childhood is corrupted with haunting memories. Do you see why this is happeneing? Do you see why I have a former friend pinned to the ground, surrounded by flames and terror?"
Spyro and Cynder were in awe. They thought Melanie was gone forever ages ago.
Malefor was also in awe. He stared back at Melanie.
"Your right." He said. "I am a horrible monster, uncapable of binding with nature or bringing any hope for the future. When I die, I will just be gone. the dragons can celebrate, and I won't be there to have to look at my victims once again. And so, I pass my powers, which I truly did not deserve or have the ability to control, to you, Melanie. Goodbye, and let my horror be forgotten." With that, the purple spirits pulled malefor into their realm. But Malefor was not completely dead. He opened a box in his hands. in the box, was a glowing golden chain with a collar ike objest on the end. He permanently bounded on end to the wall, and put the collar around his neck. He pulled a few times to make sure it was secure, then fell asleep.
*End flashback*
Malefor screamed and woke again.
"I can't sleep...." he thought. "I don't deserve peaceful sleep. I shall spend the rest of eternity mourning the damage I have done to all. Melanie, Cynder, Spyro, everyone."

Malefor thought for a moment.
"I... don't want to eternal." he whispered to himself. "An eternity of and emtpy heart and shallow soul...... an eternity of pain....... why was I chosen to be the first purple dragon, only to destroy everything?" Suddenly, Melanie walked up to him. She was a purple dragon on the inside, but was white. She could see into the purple realm.
"Of course! You were the real purple dragon! I... just was given too much power in some freak accident....." Malefor said.
"Malefor.... you can't be chained to a wall forever, living off passing rats from the real world. If a sneaky human sees a purple dragon, you'll be surely killed horribly.
"Don't you see? I'm not meant to be a purple dragon, besides, I was meant to die, but I didn't. This will all be over. it should have been ages ago.... and also... tell Spyro that.... no, I can't say it...." Malefor said, his warped and twisted voice stil making sense to Melanie.
"..... Tell him what?" Melanie replied.
"Tell him that... how do I say this...." Malefor mumbled. "Tell him I'm proud of him." Melanie's eyes grew wide. How could she tell him? He would never understand.....
"I'm proud of him for freeing Cynder from my curse, saving countless innocent lives..... and giving purple dragons back the good reputation they deserve....." Malefor whispered.
"I'll try...." Melanie replied as she walked away. She saw Spyro in the distance, and tried to figure out how to tell him what Malefor said without sounding ridiculous.

Melanie walked over to Spyro, wondering if he would understand.
"Hey Melanie." Spyro said.
"Hi Spyro... uhmm I visited Malefor recently.... and he said....." Melanie said.
"What did he say?" Spyro said, staring in suspense and curiousity.
"He said he's proud of you....." Melanie continued, biting her lip a bit. Spyro just stood there for a while, with his head down, thinking.
"I understand...." Spyro whispered. Cynder ran over to Spyro enthusiasticly.
"Hey Spyro! Hunter's found some new guardians who can teach me my elements!" Cynder said.
"Sorry, gotta go." Spyro said to Melanie. "Coming, Cynder!" Melanie stretched her large wings and flew away to the dragon temple. A few of the dragon guardians were there.
"I still think it's a miracle that you came back to life at just the right moment....." Cyril told Melanie.
"They do say, in the darkest times, light shines through...." Another guardian said. She was the same kind of dragon as cynder, the kind with multiple long horns, cuffs on her legs, tail and neck, and a blade on her tail. She was a haunting shade of red, with crimson wings and fierce yellow eyes.
"Are you the guardian of fear?" Melanie asked.
"Yes, My name is phobiam. You must be Melanie, the great elemental dragon who trapped Malefor in that mountain a long time ago."
"Yes, speaking of..... oh, nevermind, I'm sure he'll be fine." Melanie replied. Phobiam and Cyril looked at eachother, confused.

As Cynder began training with Phobiam, the fear guardian, Spyro looked at Melanie.
".... What were you going to say before?" He asked.
"I know this sounds wierd, and I shouldn't be worrying about this dragon, but.... Malefor has chained himself to a wall and refuses to free himself, because he thinks he's a threat if he is slipping in and out of the purple realm. He even thinks he's a threat in the purple realm." Melanie explained.
"Malefor never truly died..... but didn't he give his power to you?" Spyro replied.
"Yes but..... I really think something's wrong, even though this is Malefor we're talking about...." Melanie said.
"...... Where is he? Maybe we could talk to him...." Spyro suggested.

*Meanwhile, back where Malefor is*
Malefor finally managed to get to sleep. But he was woken yet again by something troubling him. Not from the past, but the future.
"Something's not right...." He whispered.

A sneaky dragon hunter leapt out of the bushes and landed face-first in front of Malefor.
"Haha! A perfect target! Dragonkind will eventually be killed of, thanks to me! No pitiful begging for mercy will stop me." The dragon hunter said, pointing a rather normal looking sword at Malefor.
"Suuuure a single man is going to kill of an entire extremely powerful species. Good luck with that." Malefor said sarcasticly. "Besides, destroying me might do the dragons a lot of good...."
"....In that case, you can be spared, pitiful lump of purple stupidity." The dragon hunter muttered, before jumping back into the bushes. Spyro and Melanie approached a few minutes later.
"We want to know what's up with you. It's over. The world is restored. You gave up your power." Spyro said.
"So why do you insist on imprisoning yourself?" Melanie continued.

WARNING: SPOILERS!!!

"It's not over....." Malefor said. "I'm still half alive. I never truly died, I was just pulled into the purple realm. I can't stand the thought of everyone living in fear, because I am slipping into their world."
"So...... you really insist on staying there, chained to a wall?" Spyro said. Malefor nodded.
"Let's just go...." Melanie said. Mealanie and Spyro walked back to the temple, where Cynder was waiting, eager to talk.
"Guess what? Phobium taught me a spell whick makes people have nightmares!!!" She said. Spyro and Cynder had a nice conversation while Melanie flew away. She went back to her home, a cave in a nearby rainforest, filled with cyan crystals. When she fell asleep, she had a dream.

*dream*
(this is where the spoiler is)
"Do not be afraid, you cannot be harmed in this dream...." a voice said. Melanie felt herself in a cave, like the temple, but more of a blue-ish colour, with a giant hourglass in the middle and countless books around.
"Who's there?" Melanie whispered. A friendly looking grey dragon wearing a coat and a crystal around his neck appeared.
"I am Ignitus, but you may call me... the Chronicler." he said.
"Spyro told me about you.... but you were orange...." Melanie replied.
"Well, the previous chronicler handed his special coat and crystal to me when a new age was beginning. My scales turned this colour." Ignitus said.
"The other chronicler.... I knew him.... he's gone?" Melanie whispered.
"Desceased, but not gone." Ignitus said, making Melanie smile.

I've been secretly reading this...as I do with all Malefor stories. I like that it's much more unique. Malefor, no matter what, is my favourite character in The Legend Series. I wish I would see more of him D:

"Wh... why am I here?" Melanie asked.
"This is about Malefor." Ignitus replied.
"So... you knew what was going on the whole time?" Melanie whispered.
"Of course! I have been chronicling every triumph and failure of this age, which has only just begun." Ignitus replied. An old book floated over to them. It opened up, revealing all of Malefor's past. It had how he trained, how he played, how he was corrupted with power, and how he had a very good friend by his side.
"This book.... is about Malefor....." Ignitus whispered. "His life has been a story, with a beggining, a middle event, with a problem that needs a solution. Now his good friend shall help him have a happy ending."
"So.... I need to help him.... but how?" Melanie asked. But while she asked, everything dissappeared, and she was awake again.

Meanwhile, Malefor was backing into the wall, trying to get away from the other purple dragons staring at him. He was practically staring at the dragons he had killed long ago.
"Stay away!" Malefor said. "I don't belong in the purple realm!!" Malefor gritted his teeth and shut his eyes tight. He opened them slowly and was in the real world.
"But I don't belong here either....." He said.

Malefor felt sick from phasing in and out of the purple realm. He slowly rested his head and fell asleep.
*dream*
"Malefor......" A voice whispered.
"Who? What? Keep away from me!!!" Malefor yelled. He looked at his surroundings... he was in the celestial caves.
"Malefor, I only wish for peaceful conversation." The voice said again. Ignitus appeared, his silver scales shining bright.
"I did so many horrible things... how can you stand to look at me?" Malefor whispered, cowering and covering his face.
"Yes, you have done wrong for this world, you have taken from it. But just know, you will have the chance to give back to the world.... and finally free yourself from the prison of your own memories." Ignitus whispered. He dissappeared as a book floated over to Malefor and opened.
"This is a book... about me...." He said to himself. All the pages started off good, then slowly turned to misery and despair. Then it was blank.
"Wh...what do I do?" Malefor asked. But Ignitus wasn't there. Malefor slowly woke up, feeling dizzy and lightheaded.

Malefor woke up and looked around. He was still in the real world, he hadn't gone back into the purple realm. He felt insecure in either realm. a large rodent (not a quokka so don't think that) scurried past and caught Malefor's attention. He leapt at it to catch it, but it jumped into it's nearby burrow. there was probably a family of NOT QUOKKA rodents in the hole, in Malefor's reach.
"Well I guess that's my food supply....." He thought. He had a little clean pond next to him for water. If he was going to die, he didn't want it long, slow and humiliating.

Meanwhile at the temple, Melanie meditated and tried to figure out what Ignitus meant by giving Malefor a happy ending. But she didn't know how. Her meditation was interrupted by what sounded like a category 3.5 cyclone- it was. Cynder was trainig again.
