Out of both video game franchises, which is better? Spyro has been around 9 yrs and Sonic 19 yrs. It's like a mystery. Sherlock Holmes is wearing his detective hat and walking around with a magnifying glass in his hand and he's searching for clues to see which game is better. Will The Eternal Night be the most popular game in the series? Or will in sink into the quicksand of the the worst game in the series?
No offense to anyone, but I sorta like the Sonic games better.

Sonic's recent games have been pathetic. The only good one in the bunch was Sonic Riders. >.>

I used to have a Sonic game and it ROCKED! But still, Spyro wins.

During a physical confrontation,Spyro owns. While in a battle of quality, Sonic may have won (had today been then, as in Sonic's old games). I never really got into Sonic though, so I don't know

well, i've never played sonic, so i have to say

I like both a lot. There were a lot of Sonic games I really got into, but a lot of his recent stuff isn't as great as when he first came out.

But with Spyro, I've loved basically every one of his game.. except for ETD. And I even gave that the time of day.

So I think I'd have to go with Spyro. But Sonic is still cool.

I like both fandoms.

I don't know which to pick.

i like spyro hands down, and now that i've gotten some more info on shadow sonic, i don't think i'll ever like him. I can never like a character w/ a gun

Lasers are different then guns. Guns can kill in one hit... lasers blast the foe with a large amount of energy, stunning or KOing them, but never killing. Of course, in Agent 9's case, his laser blaster DOES kill. <.>!

well yes i do, he has a laser, but sonic has like a .32 calliber or something, thats a little too close for comfort for me. its like, agent 9s laser was made up and stuff, but they took something violent from the real world and 'gave' it to shadow sonic. thats the best i could explain it

The comparison between Sonic and Spyro is very ridiculous ; Sonic games are roller-coaster-like super fast platformers wherever Spyro games are slow-paced collect-a-thon early on and linear arcade-style platformers with a few beat-em-up elements in.

Still, if a comparison MUST be done...

Sonic serie:
Absolutely fantastic beginning. There's a reason Sonic was seen as Mario's rival on the market. The Genesis titles are absolutely incredible and the Master System/Game Gear ones are relatively good, too.

However, the serie took a dive after this and is only getting worse. Every 3D Sonic game has been scaringly bad, featuring Sega's patented Camera-Frum-Hell and rock bottom "when do I play?" speed sections with very little skills. Oh and, plenty of cheap deaths.

2D-wise, it didn't get better. Sonic Advance 1, although uninspired, hinted at a continuation of Sonic's greatness in 2D... but everything was shot to hell with Sonic Advance 2. How can I play games that just go so fast they're uncontrollable? You have no time to react to anything. And nobody mention the abomination that is Sonic Rush ; the first zone can be cleared just by maintaining the right direction pressed and pressing the jump button TWICE. Talking about lame...

Sonic needs to die or to be given a proper revival 'cuz he doesn't look good let alone cool anymore. There's plenty of speed... but where is the gameplay we once loved?

Spyro:
Mediocre beginning. The original trilogy was VASTLY inferior to say, Mario 64, the Banjo serie, and Donkey Kong 64 but as it was the sole mainstream free-roaming 3D platformers on the PS1, they became uber popular. Don't get me wrong, Spyro was relatively decent... but the original games suffer greatly from their collect-a-thon nature and empty, vacuum-like atmosphere, plots, and characters. Still, the gameplay was sound and well, that's the key element, isn't it?

Then, Spyro took a dive with the fourth game. Deathly mediocre GBA games did not help although they're way ahead of the horrific Enter The Dragonfly.

The serie had a temporary rise with A Hero's Tail but then fell back into mediocrity with the lame Spyro Fusion and the absolutely awful Shadow Legacy.

Then, finally, the recent games. ANB and TEN change totally the gameplay from collect-a-thon to linear arcade platformer, for the best and the worst. To me, the change is successful ; despite the shortness and infinite lives, the new games set a new standart and are actually excellent, especially the final one.

So there you have it. Spyro has an overall better run (with a decent beginning, A Hero's Tail, and the Legend of Spyro trilogy) but even Spyro's best games cannot touch Sonic's best games (Genesis trilogy).

Overall, the Spyro serie is better but let's face it, Sonic 3 & Knuckles is better than any Spyro game, even TEN (or YotD, if you prefer the old-school Spyro).

Winner?

I call a draw... until either Sonic get its act together or Spyro throw at us a gem that can outclass Sonic's classic games.

yes, i understand, i just don't like violence that is just to 'real' like. Thats why i don't play ANY T rated games or even OWN a pg13 movie.

i know but its true, i also don't listen to rap, hiphop, pop, rock, or anything else besides contemporary gospel. due to the fact that the other generes have gotten so filthy lately.......

they're okay and stuff, it just hard for me to find music in that genre that isn't filthy, so i tend to stay away from it.

well aculty you should say shadow has a .32 calliber because Sonic(the char) would NEVER use guns

well, lets see, sonic runs, spyro uses dragontime, evades, sonic uses homming attack, spyro uses dt and earth, then darkspyro wins

In a Spyro website it's quite obvious what is more popular! I have Sonic R for PC. It's cool, I got it for 99p but I still prefer Spyro.

Sonic 3 and Knuckles was the best game in Sonic's run through. It was an awesome game...

...and of course, now they're doing Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games... which I hope crashes and burns. <.>!
