Shooting in Paris [CLOSED]
Samius Hunter Gems: 9573
#1 Posted: 23:45:49 13/11/2015 | Topic Creator
So, this just in.

Apparently a big shooting is going on in Paris at this moment. Currently there are more than 60 confirmed casualties. The shooters (who are thought to be Muslim extremists) are still on the loose, and there have also been reports of several explosions on the scene. There is also a city-wide curfew in effect.

I'll keep posting as I find more information. You can also contribute if you hear/read something on the news.

Edit: Removed the "civilian" part from the casualties.

Apparently they shot some people in a McDonalds from what I heard on the news. (Also, I'm pretty sure it's not just in, because I heard it about an hour ago on the news smilie)

Seems like an act of blind terrorism and nothing more, as it doesn't seem like they have anything to gain from this.

I hope it stops soon and I wish the best to those suffering non-fatal wounds, and my condolences to anyone who lost someone in the shootings.

I know it's not very late in the western hemisphere yet, but I'd say that's pretty fresh for international news. I'm sure there are some people here who don't already know about this.

It's awful. Multiple shootings and explosions have occurred in at least 7 locations. At least 60 killed, 100 held hostage, and now the President has closed down all of the borders of France declaring a state of emergency.

Couldn't even watch the news for too long since rain has been eating up the signal, but holy crap people in Brazil aren't even bothering to stop normal broadcasts for this, internet'll have to do.

Shootings at the Louvre as well. Considering how some groups made a hobby out of destroying historical monuments in the middle east, oh god.

100+ bodies found dead in theater

which basically means that the hostages didn't make it out, at least most of them

edit: in total at least 140 found, 100 of them are the victims in theater (hostages)

Yes, I read that the attackers started killing the hostages before the police could start their assault. It's not yet certain how many hostages, if any, made it out.

Donald Trump posted a similar sort of comment (also on Twitter) and the French Ambassador to the United States actually responded to it and, predictably, was not very pleased.

I'm not surprised that politicians try to capitalize on what is happening. At the same time I'm also seeing loads of people saddling their high horses, agreeing with their buddies on how "terrorism has no religion".

These kinda things just bring out the worst in many people (many of whom are not very agreeable to begin with).

News agencies are interviewing experts who expect this incident to spurn xenophobic and/or populist viewpoints in Europe, which were already fairly high from all the Syrian refugees to begin with.

I'm afraid that such a thing will happen. In Finland we haven't had any problems with terrorist attacks but it still feels like a mess already. It's like someone had forced everybody to adopt these ideas that are complete polar opposites of each other.

Apparently a lot of people thought that it meant something and started to post about it all over the internet. I even saw some real news that mentioned it as some sort of an expression of grief.

Even if it weren't so, I'm sure the people over there are grieving (or angry).

Finally home and watching CNN to keep up to date.

According to Fox's report (yeah I know) there were Twitter accounts linked to ISIS celebrating. Also some attackers were reportedly shouting things like "For Syria!" among other things.

Wasn't there rumor not long ago that ISIS were planting fake refugees among the real refugees to get into other countries? No confirmation that they or anyone else is behind it, but it does throw up some signs in my opinion.

Some updates-

The passports of the terrorists have apparently been found. They apparently have links to France, Egypt, and Syria.

Also, 4 months ago Isis threatened that they would "fill the streets of Paris with dead bodies."

This attack was planned and had been planned.

Uhh.. All the time? Since they started the whole Islamic State?

The thing is, stopping them is not so simple as just sending soldiers into the Middle East. We've tried it before, and that's the exactly what caused ISIS to rise to power in the first place.

If you want to talk about this more you can use this topic.
