I was in a debate with a friend of mine who's pretty religious, debating whether grinding is bad for school dances to have or not. I argued that it is fine, while he argued against it. What do you think?

I would say no. Are we trying to encourage our kids to grow up to be strippers and lap dancers? Sure, it pays good money, but it's not exactly something you say is ok for your kid to do when they grow up.

Going to have to say no, especially pre-high school. I don't go to school dances though so it's not like it'll affect me in any way if people here are allowed to dance like that, but still.

Okay, I have a well thought out opinion for this.

First off, I don't think it should be. It's quite obscene and usually just turns them on both enough for them to have unprotected sex. I say unprotected because American high schoolers are dumber than a sack of Kaiju **** and the American sex education is horrifyingly inaccurate.

Now, I went to Prom around March or the beginning of April. When I went in, ALL THAT WAS PLAYING WAS HIP HOP. Most of the lyrics were about sex and all of them had that slow thumping beat that, to be honest, you can only grind to. Now, I went up to the DJ multiple times and asked for a few bands. (Fall Out Boy, Imagine Dragons, and OneRepublic to be precise.) His response was "Sorry, I don't have any of those bands on this equipment." So, it's obvious they need either new DJs or different songs loaded onto the machines.

TL; DR: It should be banned but it's the type of music that's causing it.

No. I am not religious in the slightest, but I still say no:

-A school dance is supposed to be a place where everyone can feel comfortable and have a good time and socialise. In some cases, the school dance is the last time these people see each other. By allowing grinding at the actual dance, people will be uncomfortable, and of course, immature guys are going to ask any attractive girl to do it to them, and immature girls are going to bother any guy if they want it done to them (and all other variations of the situation would occur too). Not everyone is so outgoing in expressing their sexuality, and some people just aren't comfortable with such close contact with people at all, even if it's just a hug. Some people would be really uncomfortable if they saw grinding, of all things, going on all around them, let alone being asked to do it.

-The purpose of grinding is to get a guy hard. That's literally what it's supposed to do. Since a girl's own private parts would be in such close proximity to a guy's hard private area when performing the act, that could lead to all kinds of embarrassing, or even outright sick circumstances (i.e. rape or sexual harassment in the future for the girl who did the grinding). And it would happen all too easily, because horny teenagers. Also, the girl's breasts would be pretty close to the guy's face, and considering how 99% of teenage girls use school dances as an excuse to show off their cleavage and breasts in general (even if they aren't particularly sexual people, and they may not even wear revealing dresses BECAUSE they are revealing), this really doesn't help things.

-This is pretty much opinion territory, but personally, I stopped going to school dances (and most social gatherings involving my peers) because they've pretty much devolved into sex/drinking fests as it is. Maybe that's just how things are in Ireland, or even just my hometown, but when that's all a school gathering is (or any social gathering, at that), it's a thing that puts off a lot of people. Those people may still go, but they won't have a good time, because they are either not considered attractive enough (or popular enough) to get in on some grinding action (to link the this back to the actual topic matter), or they simply aren't comfortable with being there and are only there because of peer pressure, and because even parents and family pressure them into it (which happens to me. My family still bugs me about the fact that I skipped out on all 3 of the debs parties I could have attended. I admit I was a bit of an ass to turn a girl down and not really explain why, but for the other two parties, I hold no regrets at all). I'm perfectly fine with expressing sexuality (and I won't pretend I don't have a sense of sexuality, because I most assuredly do, even if I'm reserved about it), and if you want to go to a night club or something, that's fine. But school dances should have more meaning to them, and in the case of the final school dance, EVERYONE should feel involved more than ever, not just the sexual/sexy/popular people, because this may be the last time some of these people see each other.
