I think you're mistaking the two:

Whomps are the ones with legs
Thwomps are the one that can fly!

I'd say a Thwomp. A Whomp can be defeated, but a Thwomp can only be avoided.

The Whomp would trip.

Thwomp would win, because he can't trip. He would float around and not get hit, but fall onto the Whomp (destroying him, if Mario can destroy a Whomp by ground-pounding, then something twice his weight could definitely do it) whenever Whomp tripped.

And in the games, I think Thwomps are harder to get past than Whomps. And unlike Whomps, they can't be killed in non-RPG games (I think).

But yeah, Thwomps would put themselves in the best position for the whomps to kill them, so, yeah, Whomps it is.

(tho Thwimps are WAAAAY better imo, much more chaotic and hard to dodge)

Nah, I mean, they're great, don't get me wrong, but it ultimately comes down to magikoopas, chain chomps, or Whomps. Or the assortment of "koopa bros." like, hammer, boomerang, fire, ice, etc.

Whomps have always been much cooler to me, I'm guessing because you didn't see them all that often compared to Thwomps.

I adore both of their names though!
