Modern music you actually like [CLOSED]

There were obviously a lot of crappy songs that came out in recent years, but I was curious about the modern music that you guys actually like, if any. An artist, a song, an album or whatever.

The only artists I still listen to, old and new stuff, are Maroon 5, Justin Timberlake, OneRepublic, Bruno Mars, and Usher. I have songs from, if not their entire most recent album. I do like two songs on Jason Derulo's newest album, like the only two not about butts and sex and whatnot.

Popular modern music? I just like a few that were popular around my area (fairly) recently. DJ Got Us Falling In Love, Need You Now, Let It Rock, and In My Head are about it though...

Not counting all of my not-nearly-as-popular modern rock/tech/whatever music I enjoy listening to, such as Seether and Three Days Grace. Their most recent albums are fantastic imo

Silversun Pickups are excellent; every album is good for different reasons.

Chvrches' debut album is very solid, can't think of one song I don't like.

White Sea (M83's Morgan Kibby) is a little over the top, but is definitely anthem-level electronic for the digital age; They Don't Know and Prague are breathtakingly impassioning.

Hurts is a guilty pleasure, as is the case with most music discovered by watching CW shows...

Every time I dig around for good music, I find something new that I like. It's out there, vast quantities of it, you just have to turn the radio off and do some research online. Pandora can be pretty incredible for discovering new artists as well.

Define what exactly you want. All modern music we listen to? Or just music from artists that tend to get on the radio?

I listen to more modern music than "classic" since I don't pretend that the radio represents all modern music and I go out to find things I would like (or someone refers me to a band I may like). It's a pet peeve when someone says all modern music sucks but they only listen to the radio to see what modern music is like.

I'll listen to almost anything. If I like the song, I like the song, doesn't really matter to me when it was made.

I like this and it was released on the 10th so is modern.


A woman went on X factor and had written this song and it's good. Cheryl didn't like her though so she didn't get through. They removed the most talented person who entered which was stupid.

In which case I like songs/albums from:

Fun
Bruno Mars
Imagine Dragons
Macklemore
Eminem
Lady Gaga
Lorde
OneRepublic
and Gotye and Daft Punk, even though both of them have only had one hit each in the past several years.

There are a handful more that I have enjoyed at least one song from but I chose not to list them (i.e. Coldplay; opinion pending).

Only one of those artists listed would be considered a "regular" on the pop charts...

Get Lucky, Can't Hold Us, Thrift Shop, Good Feeling, Team, and some songs from Bruno Mars are really good.

Also I understand that Taylor Swift's "Shake it Off" is terrible in every way, but it's a huge guilty pleasure of mine.

I find her annoying, to be honest. I'm not saying she's a horrible person, there's just something about her that annoys me, always has. I don't particularly enjoy her songs that much, either. If she sang more like she does in Safe and Sound I'd probably like her songs more, 'cause she sounded so pretty then. In her other songs.. I dunno, to me it just sounds like she's trying too hard or something.

Taylor Swift, to me, went from someone who acted like she knew so much more than everyone else (but didn't) to a sellout who thinks she's better than everyone else but acts otherwise.

"Peace" - OAR.

Pretty much everything by Of Monsters and Men.

Florence + The Machine is good, too.

"Wake Me Up" - Aloe Blacc would be so much better if they replaced the techno crap with real guitars and drums. But it's okay.

I did like Imagine Dragons, but I heard their so-called "cover" of "Semi-Charmed Life" (Originally by Third Eye Blind) and I will never forgive them for that atrocity.

if you count stuff basically from the 2000s as "modern", then gorillaz, of course

but usually i only listen to the radio and hear the modern modern songs is when i'm in the car with the radio
like i said on another topic, i like diamonds - rihanna, and i also like that light em up song

but that's about it

The lyrics are pretty bad, it's hypocritical, and it honestly could have been sung by anyone.

I love it though, no idea why. It has everything that I hate in a song, but I absolutely love it.
