What money making gimmick will the Beings of Avarice (Activision) make for Swap Force. I imagine they'll need something new now that everyone found out about the no-wowpows-for-LC-characters.
So what do you think they'll try? And how can we avoid it?

I’m fully expecting this. The swapping gimmick throws a real wrench in the traditional model – is a half-fire, half-water character fire, water, both or nether?

I’m guessing that elemental gates are just totally out. Instead gates will be locked to types of movement – we have already seen that there are ‘types’ of movement in the new game tied to the bottom half of the characters, with the movement icon on the base: speed, wheeled, agility, etc… and I’m predicting that locked areas are tied to those, not elements.

^I'm not sure why you can't have both.

Let me throw another wrench---will there be GIANTS ONLY ACCESSIBLE areas like in SG, or are they going to "demote" them like S1 characters?

They should make Skylanders that jump off the base and terrorize everybody who hates Skylanders.

The"certain leg only" areas will have important collectibles behind them, so you need multiple swapforce toys rather than your old collection or the token one from the starter pack.

they have specifically stated that dual elemental gates can be opened by either a swaplander with the correct two parts OR 2 individual Skylanders in co-op mode. If you are playing alone, just turn on the second controller, add the correct fig, open the gate then turn off the controller. You won't miss out on anything more than you did in Giants

And besides the starter pack you can only buy swapforce characters by the parts... so one single pack will have Blast' top half and the other will contain Zone bottom half.

They will release a super pack with all the swap force characters but it will cost $1000.

You could buy little hats to put on them! Cost $2 each. It will be the only way to get hats on them.

Actually, all the planned reposes and lcs and newlanders and swaplanders together do almost cost 1000... but knowing Activison this kind of pack would be 2500!

Right then they'll release some skylanders and you'll find out they aren't compatible with Swapforce... you have to wait til Skylander 4 to use them.

I always thought it would be kinda funny if you could actually buy a 'hat pack'. They'd be for show only but I still giggle every time I put the in-game top hat on Boomer. IRL would be amusing.

Variants are needed to beat certain enemies. (Namely the Sparkle Sentry, Flocked Fighter, and all Ambushes.)

They will be distributed more commonly, but they're still rare, all employees also have been told to buy them and put them on eBay.

Yep, except the S3 guys will unlock specific content that S1 and S2 won't...just like SG (and if that's the case here that might be a deal breaker)

Also, if they don't introduce a complete figure but halfs...yeah I'm DEFINITELY out.

Given Infinity's direction, I would definitely not rule out this gimmick.

that would make absolutely no sense if they did any of those 2 things

every time you play the gae you have to send activision 20$. levels cost 40$ each, hats and collectibles are 60$ each, and once you beat the game with a skylander (or your wallet) left, Kaos comes and takes all the money on your bank account, debit card, credit card, college funds, rainy day savings, stock you invested, your favorite teddy bear and spends it on cheap skylanders merchandise, which is directed to your bank account!

Realistically something they might try is selling higher priced figures that already have all their upgrades unlocked. The smart part is that I'm sure people would buy them because most Skylanders aren't that fun to play as until you have all of their upgrades. Then as a trick to make you reset the characters anyways and essentially make you waste a few extra dollars, one of their upgrades actually makes them worse similar to Chill's upgrade that traps enemies in ice when you shoot an ice block at them, or Sunburn's final fire breath upgrade. Then to add the final touch of evil, they release these versions of the characters before the regular versions, to trick the collectors into getting the more expensive one since a collector will want as many figures as quickly as possible.

But in a less bleak, and more silly answer, the new portal that comes with Swap Force just instantly corrupts your old figures and forces you to buy the new ones.

I'd like to have "sticky" features intact for special skylanders and/or purchased upgrades...even if you reset...that would be a value add for me cause playing heroics for every skylander for every game is NOT going to scale...and is borderline absurd even after just two games.
