This odd, two-toned Trap Shadow was brought to my attention. It was found on eBay.de.

Have you heard or seen anything about Trap Shadow variants?

very interesting. Haven't heard anything about it, but it kind of reminds me of the Sprocket variant. 2 metallic coloured scheme. Though this one looks pretty hideous in my opinion haha

But... interesting choice, although it COULD be very fake.

I almost got hyped until I heard the word "ebay." Probably fake, but I would buy it if it was selling for a low price.

Huh.. Looks pretty real to me.

What I just noticed (that convinces me a little more) is that in the second picture you can see the stealth symbol over the silver.

Definitely real. It would take a lot of skill to paint it without screwing up.


I'm willing to spend that much to get this guy just to see how he shows up.


They should do a Doom Stone like this, but with a silver top and bronze bottom.

I contacted a friend at Toys for Bob to see if he could message Activision/VV about it.

Such connects. Much skylanders. So epic. Wow.

Ugh couldn't they have had like Sugar Skull Trap Shadow or something worthwhile. This hideous monstrosity can't stay far away.

Two things make me question whether it is real:

1. The type symbol background is painted over with chrome, but the background of the type is normally gold (the symbol is still there). The only other similar variant is the WiiU Wash buckler and it is painted gold instead of the special color.
2. All chase variants we have seen since mid-Giants have their eyes painted in the normal colors instead of just a solid coat.

Not saying it isn't real, but those things are different from the route they have taken more recently.

One other thing to add: The top half is slightly mis-positioned in the box. It looks like he wouldn't even work in the game unless you open him.

Oh wow, you are right. Everyone I've seen has the top half sitting very flush with the bottom (almost to he point where he doesn't even look like he "splits"). When taking most swappers out of the box, I've had to pull them apart to get them out and flex the plastic in the middle to get them out. That looks like he had to bend it to get it out and the plastic didn't reform back in such a way to hold him together. Trap Shadow's packaging is definitely more secure in that it looks like it is made so he doesn't have the fairly common problem of the top falling off when handled roughly in the store.

I'm leaning more toward fake now.

I'm saying fake as well. Although the paint job is perfect around the sneak symbol, as brought up by defpally: colour change wash buckler's symbol was still gold. And then if you look at the gold fire kraken, that one is fully painted over. There are no swappers that have a symbol like this one.

The faker probably just ran out of Bronze...

If you are going to fake a variant, this is the perfect time to do it, too. Right after a Wave comes out before anyone knows if there is one in it or not. Get a quick sale by a collector that has more money than sense before people figure it out. Make the description vague enough to not be held against you when it is found to be fake, and don't respond to queries asking if it is a custom. If I were into variants, I wouldn't buy one before it was confirmed to be valid from more than one source (or direct from Activision/TfB/VV), particularly for the money he is asking.

Chase variants ARE rare, but not so rare that more won't pop up later (and cheaper) if it is real.

But at least if you are gonna fake one, you need to have a second figure to compare the finished product.

They did write that its not custom made, so if found out to be fake I guess you could report them since they stated its not a custom. I still wouldn't buy it for that price.

If real...pass. Not a fan of each half being different colors.

I also will pass...im not a fan of the single color paint scheme figures. I can just buy a regular version a paint it myself.
And like defpally stated about the Swap badge type symbol being silver instead of gold... Also the sneak logo dosen't look right to me....its black. The decals are brown. Witch is easy enough to do...like i did for my Hex's eyeliners an eyebrows.

I dunno. I think its really interesting whatever it is. The colors are sharp contrasts, but I think they could have found better opposite colors...like orange and blue or something like that. Heck, even one solid color but clear molded would be neat.

I'll hold final judgement on it until after we figure out if its legit or not. I suppose there should be 2 others since the variants always come in threes. Perhaps a Bronze Scratch and a Silver Fire Bone Hot Dog?

I think its also odd that we're seeing variants in the odd waves; Wave 2 had the Green Guys and now 4 has this? Why'd they skip 3? Is it just that no one ended up finding any specials from Wave 3?

I know it was confirmed, but I just want to say:
It's less likely that it was mispositioned and more likely that the magnets were glued in weirdly. My regular Fire Kraken's half is also like this, with the black bits sticking out a bit when he's combined. Same with my Wash Buckler.

Agreed. I have a Grilla Drilla that doesn't fit together quite properly (because of the magnets), but it still functions in-game.

Yep, he was nice enough to actually contact the product managers at Activision and confirm that it's real.

Worse looking skylanders so far.

One other thing, I messaged the seller yesterday about it. He said:

"This was a gift from an employee, I did not find it in-store."

If I happened to see one in the store in front of me, I might consider buying it if it were rare enough. I couldn't see myself spending hard earned money for one on eBay like I did with E3 Hot Dog, especially since he was only $60 and this gaudy looking thing would probably sell for way more.

Now that the Gold/Silver Stink Bomb got revealed, we only need one more variant to finish it off.

It'll probably be Rubble Rouser (seems more fitting), but we all know how popular Spy Rise became after his release, so... no clue. I'm hoping for Spy Rise.
