The reason why America ranks so low in global education is that American children are typically raised by the conservative idea that academics are not important and that you can get through life with just "common sense." A very blunt way of saying it, I know, but that's the connotation of the background. Anyway, that fact was true at one point, but the world is changing, and we must change with it. I will definitely raise my children to value their education, as it's one of the few things in life that comes free.

In America, if you fail a standardized test, the worst that can happen is you get held back a grade. In somewhere like China, if you fail a standardized test, you are taken from your family and sent to do manual labor for the rest of your life.

The education system is flawed, but I think the main reason it's so bad is because we make our kids super anxious and pile a lot of stress onto them.

That is also a very big problem. But IMO, caring too much about your education is better than not caring at all. Down here in the South, only a few parents will actually push their kids and try to motivate them; all the other parents just don't give a damn, and therefore the kids don't give a damn. Not saying it's right to put stress on your kids, of course.


BTW, the education system itself is not very flawed. It's just the mindset of the students that ruins it.

I agree with the bullying part, because it has been proven that bullying does have an effect on education, but I'm iffy about the whole bad teacher thing. I mean, I KNOW that there are some bad teachers out there, but most kids down here use that as an excuse because they're too lazy. Of course, I'm not saying you are. My advice to you would be to seek a tutor of some sort. Not exactly saying for your parents to hire someone to help you, but really just anyone who knows what they're doing and who you think can help you better than the teachers.

Well there's those assholes that are for some reason in my IEP classes because of how much of dumbasses they are. I mean IEP is meant for those with disabilities. I don't see a mental disability on them. Unless if we count lazy, stupid, and racist as such. And with the economy I don't think any parent would hire a tutor. I think they'll just try to help their kid with the stuff. Though the problem with that is parents are not up to date with the finest knowledge. So it becomes more difficult because you can't rely on siblings, parents, and such.

I think there should be more Study Skill classes, it's basically a class where your assignment is to do your homework. You get all the help you get from other students and teachers in the class. And if you finish all of your homework in that class you basically Scott free of homework for the day. Kind of why Study Skills is one of my favorite classes (of course thanks to my IEP it's a requirement really. But it's really useful).
