Hey everyone,
I've come to the point where I am really starting to slow down the leveling, and I've been running out of Gold & Energy a lot.
I am currently level 26. I have 63 Skylanders. 7,551 gems. 241,000 gold. 101,000 energy. 93 Kudos. 215 Wish Stones. 29/44 Companions. All islands are unlocked.
Companions I have:
Advisor Orville, Silena, Mulch-O-Matic, Masked Mabu, Flynn, Frilly, Dr. Haus, Arbo, Willy, Baxter, Aura, Gurglefin, Beatrees, Quigley, Ruggles, T-Bone, Hyde, Ma-Boo, Hugo, General Robot, Jess LeGrand, Zap's #1 Fan, Gigantus, Capybara King, Ermit, Gorm and Tuk, Diggs, Fiznik, Softpaw.
I play daily
I always am collecting from buildings every spare moment I get
I am always trying to keep 1 skylander in each Sanctuary
I have 1x Dragon Lair (Should I buy another?)
I have Thumpback's House and I always try and keep him in there (Is it worth it?)
I have Triggy Snappy's House and I always try and keep him in there (Is it worth it?)
I have 1x Swap Force House and I always try and keep a Swapforce in there
I have 34 energy fields (mixture of some radiant & normal)
I've can't afford to purchase required Stronghold for a quest I have because I don't have enough gold and I also have another Quest to build a Theater, but I don't have enough Available Workers...
Could it be that I haven't set my islands out efficiently?
Is there a way I can be earning more gold & energy?
Should I be spending my Wish Stones since I already have the Grand Price for this month? Or should I save it for next month?
I'm stuck and its starting to frustrate me that I can't complete tasks because of the lack of money or energy...

if you dont mind cheating, put all the skylanders in the houses and Time Travel to tomorrow. you can collect the rewards just about instantly. i am currently doing it right now. dont forget to put your Idevice in airplane mode before you TT

And once you have done it do you just close the game and revert it back?

Don't cheat! It just takes time. You're trying to do too much at once. Always run the houses. Do not get more dragon lairs. Be patient!

So what's the best way to earn gems?

Go back in time a day at a time and get the 3 sugar bats, rinse and repeat, don't worry about the other stuff it takes too long. Also get the Companions that increase sugar bats, give you a gem with a treasure chest,...if you stick with dates you actually played you shouldn't mess anything up, if you go back too far you will pop some timed adventures that you may not be able to complete (for instance if you don't have the companion, alt ego, structure...). Right now if you go back check out the sales from mid to late december, you can get discounts and alt egos you missed. The only bad part is it goes pretty quickly once you get to a certain point, the best part is it goes pretty quickly.

I am doing something wrong. I have never had even close to that many gems and am level 33. I barely scrape together 300 to get something "special" every once in a while. :/

fykerr - you aren't doing anything wrong. You are playing the game as it was intended without time traveling to boost your gem income.
For me, jumping back and forth in time to gather gems from bats (or complete houses early etc) would take away a lot of what I find fun playing this game. At level 33, I was the same as you - I would barely reach 350 gems in time to get the latest special house. And it was exciting to get it! I remember when Hot Head's house was back and available for one day only - I was close to being able to afford it, but not there. So I went through and charted the experience of each of my skylanders, figured out how many I could level up (to get the gems), and spent the entire day sending skylanders off on short missions trying to level them up as quickly as possible. I bought the house as soon as I could, at about 11:58pm. I *love* that house! I'm now level 40 and generate 75-100 gems a day. This is mostly by having all giant/alter ego/special houses and maxing out the number of halls for legendary skylanders. I was able to get Diggs, and he typically gives 25 a day. I don't have all the premium companions, but I will get them when I can afford them. People complain when there is nothing more to strive for. That's what this game is all about - building up your islands and feeling like you worked for the cool items you get. Sometimes spending a bit of real world money to be able to afford something super cool before it goes away. As I've said elsewhere - there's nothing wrong with time traveling if that's what makes the game fun for you. It's just a different strategy for playing. Houses are a good source of gems. Get enough of them, and at least one house will return gems each collection time. Having lots of friends is good for gems. Receiving and sending gifts takes very little time and is easy gems. Visiting will earn you gems too, but it takes a lot of time. |

Very we'll said! No reason to rush to complete stuff in this game by "cheating". All it will do is leave you with nothing to do. Paying some money on occasion is not terrible since if we don't spend real money (because we're cheating or cheap) they will stop supporting the game. In fact this may already have happened. Until the game starts getting updated and supported again, I'd be hesitant to spend real money.

I'm not sure how the application, activision, iphone, android...are related or how they get money from each other...marketing, how the different companies benefit from relationships with each other...
I would be hard pressed to call playing a game with no official rules and the option to do what people do built into it "cheating". I would call it thinking outside the box. As for the money part of it, I have been supporting companies like activision, apple,...since their inception. I was part of some activision adventure club when I had Pitfall, River Raid, Pitfall II, Chopper Command...on Atari and have bought almost everything associated with skylanders SA, Giants and SF. I also have several android and apple devices which cost way too much to purchase and to maintain the contracts...point being, I don't think they are losing any money on me, because I'm not cheap, or cheating, I just feel the opposite of what you do. I believe having customers pay for extra in game content and putting time limits and today only signs on specials is a form of cheating the consumer and playing into the way our minds work as humans to get us to consume more and spend more is taking advantage of regular customers. A ton of research has gone into how we purchase and why and trust me, they do these things because it works and it turns a profit. I'm sure there are some people mostly those without the money to spend, that consider buying the extra content "cheating", you are getting ahead in the game because you have money (the way the real world works).

While I'm not in complete agreement, I do agree with the comments about time limits in in-game content. In fact, Lost Islands is the one game I've spent the most money on because, on top of the entertainment value, they do not require you to spend money. Almost all of the time-limited items have had multiple opportunities for winning/purchase since the game came out (there's only two items I can think of that haven't), so even though I don't like the marketing/time-limiting features of games similar to this, I think Lost Islands handles this area pretty well. |

I'm in complete awe to find someone with so many gems, yet so little money/energy. How does that happen?

I noticed that you have Diggs, don't use the Molekin Market while you're trying to raise money/energy -- especially given how many gems you have. Also, don't use the Sanctuaries when trying to conserve energy. They payout some good stuff, but they are highly energy inefficient. Also, I believe the best bang for your buck adventure is Mount Cloudbreak, especially with Gorm & Tuck. Just doing those three things should be enough to boost your money and energy income. Then once you get your Stronghold, you can go back to your old routine.
Also since you have so many gems, maybe you can even spring for Cali and Ol' Mac
