Well, I've read some of the manga (I guess, they were books) of Death Note, it's a really good series for what you like.

My reason pokemon anime is not that great.

1. Ash doesn't age and every time he goes to a new region he has to re learn all typings. (characters are meant to develop and age)

2. It's usually the same thing over and over and over through out quite a bit of seasons. The only difference is the view and region.

3. It's meant for kids. It's too kiddy.

4. If you don't know anything of what I just said and rant against me or anyone for what they like/love as a good anime, kindly shut it and save us the trouble.

As Someperson has already said Swimming Anime. It'll probably be easier to find it under that name than with Free! anyway.

Also Fullmetal Alchemist and Kyoukai no Kanata are good too. Tho FMA is like 100 episodes if you watch both the original and brotherhood. Which you most definately should.

I haven't watched much anime, but I do like Jigoku Shoujo (aka, Hell Girl). It has an interesting story and is great if you're into creepy anime.
