It puts a dead specimen of the virus into your body, which prepares your body to fight the virus without there being any real danger. So that way, when you come into contact with the actual virus, your immune system will be ready to destroy it.

Vaccines do not alter anything within your body. So unless you have an allergic reaction to the dead specimen (which is a one in a million chance), there's no way they CAN harm you.

I don't get the flu shot. Never did, never will. Everyone that I know that had one, got sick from the vaccine.

I took a flu shot when I was 6.
My mom had to drag me back to teh car after the shot as I was crying.

See, if you've had the flu previously, or you currently have the flu, there's nothing the vaccine can do for you. It has to be administered before you can get the flu.

According to official flu-shot documents, 1 in 1 million flu shots can result in development of Guillain-Barré Syndrome. With that in mind, I do get one every year. I am an asthmatic, so I am a part of the "high risk group" to catch the flu. I do believe that viruses are effective, especially ones that have been in clinical circulation for awhile. Which reminds me, I'm due for my TDAP this year. <.<
