Funny thing is, they had to stop advertising as A18 (adults only) because the game isn't an "adult" game whatsoever - they got in trouble for doing that.

In HCI's defense, he might have just been on gaming sites. The internet is a particularly sexualized place, someone could be interested in baking cookies and get a bunch of ads about erotic cookie baking or something.

I actually don't think ads are based on browser histories. The first time I went on the Internet on my new phone I logged on DarkSpyro, and some porn app appeared on Google Play.

And the EXACT SAME APP inmediately appeard when I logged in on my dad's tablet <.<

Search history does account for some of the ads you see, like for example last year around prom... searching for prom dresses, ya know, I got bridal shop ads and stuff like that almost everywhere I went.
It doesn't always do it, but a lot of the time, yeah. It did for me anyway. I have AdBlock now, though lol
