So has anyone bought Gurglefin yet? I'm just wondering how well he works, or if he's worth it at all. I'm also considering spending the Kudos to start my own Topiary-based grow-op to provide a 'green' source of energy!

I'm almost wondering if we should start saving them in case there is another alter-ego down the road or something similar. We don't know what their future plan is and after the boost of adding new friends, it's slow going in getting more kudos. I'm hoping Admiral Thumpback was just an introductory thing to get people interacting, then they just come out with other prizes to use for kudos that give some sort of boosts but aren't quite as expensive.

Does anyone know how long admiral will be offered? I am concerned he will disappear before I get to buy him

I'm worried about that too. Hopefully they will give some warning.

I think Obidawsn is right on the money. It's better to build a small stash of Kudos to be prepared for the next big thing.

I'm not a big fan of Admiral thump back so I'm gonna save mine till something cools is released (at this moment I have 1700Kudos)

I plan on visiting enough islands tonight to get Admiral Thumpback but after that I don't know what I'll do. I probably won't go for Gurglefin yet since I'd rather have a stockpile of Kudos for whatever comes next. We'll have to wait and see what they offer in the future.

I feel the same about gurglefin, He adds a chance to get wishstones which is nice, but then the chance for kudos or gems in also decreased. Maybe if they made it so the wish stones were a extra bonus rather than another item taking up roulette wheel lowering the chances of gem/kudo

Thinking about it, Gurglefin might be better for new players who don't yet have a stack of Wishin' Stones but have received a bunch of Kudos from adding friends.

Gurglefin is 400 Kudos? That's 1 day of Kudos. For me it was a no brainer.

Pico, I agree it was a no brained to buy Gurglefin at 400. Also, with new friends being worth an instant 50 kudos, I have to recommend recycling 10 friends at a time. I know it seems cruel but the devs really created the recycle incentive at 50 per pop. I have 100 friends and have practiced the recycling with those that are not active on Darkspyro. I have already bought the Admiral, Gurgelfin, the Vacatuon House, one of the new decorations, and I still have 1800 kudos stocked up. I am not saying this to brag as I am sure there are even better stories out there, I am just trying to show how powerful the "new"friend is...

Today my game failed to visit or crashed when trying to visit about a third of my friends... So I'm only at 900 after buying the admiral. I haven't bought anything else yet...

I wish I knew how they calculate Gurglefin's payout. Does clicking on a gift initiate a spin for a gem, and THEN a second spin for a wishstone? That'd be alright. But if the chance of having a wishstone decreases the chance of having a gem, then that's a garbage companion. Not knowing has made me hold off on buying what at first look appeared a no-brainer. The way the devs have been coding lately, I wouldn't trust anything new not to send me back to the stone age. There needs to be a VERY tangible reward to be worth the risk at the moment.
Getting a guaranteed extra gem with ALL chests is what I call a VERY tangible reward.

It works like the old mechanic. You click the gift icon and it's a kudos, gem or wish stone.

With a decent number of shrines and totems, and running santuaries (3 per) we get easily over 500 stones per month. That gives us enough for the alter ego and a legendary house.

Unless there are new items that cost stones it is not worth it without knowing what the next kudos item is. At least that's how I see it.

I'm adding topiaries for the xp bonus, but I sure wish Quigly would collect energy.

I already bought the Admiral and then Gurglefin. Yesterday I had 1297 kudos and was thinking "hey, I can finally buy the Eon statue... hm maybe I should read the forum first, if there are better ways to spend kudos. Ah, whatever, I don't care!" and bought it.

Today I realized that the new item for 40 kudos is the best source of energy. If I buy a 10x10 field, I get 100 of them and they produce 100*10 = 10.000 energy every 4 hours, which is at least 40.000 energy a day FOR FREE. (Ok, 4000 kudos, which is free.) That means I can fill even more sanctuaries with more than 1 or 2 skylanders, and/or have to spend less on crops with 150.000 gold a day.

Damn, I have now ~20 kudos left.

Do the topiaries pay out 10 or 100? If it is 10, then 10x100=1,000 every 4 hours.

100 energy per topiary.

Hmmmm.....a 10x10 for 10,000 energy every 4 hours is intriguing. As that would blow all my accumulated kudos, I will probably wait another week or two before going that route. There may yet be additional kudos products.

I think you're right, I've bought a Gurglefin and I'm sorry, I see that nothing has improved, except that now, I have less chance of getting a gem spinning a gift, since it changes the gem by a stone.... It I want to get stones I buy a shrine. I think I wasted 400 kudos.....

Keep in mind they removed coin, exp, and money as a reward so the chances of seeing a gem or a stone should be higher. I systems should because I really never paid attention to how rare a gem was in the old model.

I'm a broken record on this, I know but the chances of getting gems from gifts seems about the same and is much worse from visits.

I don't think there's a max number of topiaries - I'm at 50, and the game will still sell me more. The collection is irritating, though - I would love a companion that would collect energy and shrines.

I only use my wishing stones for getting the Alter-egos, so I have several months worth of those saved up. Sounds like Gurglefin is a detriment to me.
Cheshire Blue Sparx Gems: 578

Whether Gurglefin reduces gem payouts depends on how the LI team coded him, but given the rarity of both payouts, I doubt one has much effect on the other.

I got Gurglefin on my son's account because he needs wish stones for alter egos and frequently blows gems on finishing buildings. I don't believe it has lowered gem rewards on his account but I haven't counted before and after. I'll try counting gems on mine without gurglefin and then compare that to my son's payout and let you know.
