I'm assuming it's either the developers being 'efficient' with models, using an old one and just tagging it 'Drow archer' instead of making a new one. Weren't those wideyed horned little buggers called something entirely different in Spyro's Adventure?

If you mean the yellow guys in Giants, I think they were called Imps in SSA.
No idea why they changed it, they don't look that similar.

The actuall Drow Archers are just Imps.

What you see is the early design for them.

The title is misleading. I thought there was a new enemy that was hidden in the game...

Giants doesn't have the variety of SSA - I understand that, because it's kind of pointless having three models that act the exact same way, but I do miss it.

FYI: OUTSIDE of Skylanders, in worlds which include elves and such, "Drow" is the name of the race of evil elves.

So it does seem like all the Drow enemies are supposed to be elves. smilie At least originally.

I can't remember specifically, that's why I was vague. smilie I know I've seen a few universes that use the term. In the 80's I played a role playing game called Warhammer (it's like Dungeons & Dragons), I just checked my book from back then, it wasn't there, evil elves were called Dark Elves. So it might have been in the real Dungeons & Dragons, I believe there were Drow in that universe.

I DO know I was pretty pleased to see the term revived in Skylanders. smilie

EDIT: Looked it up on Wikipedia, it had a few suggestions, including:

Quote:
Drow (Dungeons & Dragons), fictional dark elves from Dungeons & Dragons

Last I saw they have big elf ears, so I've always understood that they're elves, not imps.

That's a thought... But in most universes, imps are a small form of goblin. Though it is true they have a similar look, like the ears. This discussion makes me feel like I remember reading something somewhere saying imps are related to dark elves, maybe that they're cross breeds between dark elves and goblins or something.

And I was just playing through a few Heroic Challenges, and NINJAsk, you are indeed right, the archers are imps. I think they really were elves in SSA (I do remember that they look very different in Giants), but they were changed to imps in Giants, but they didn't bother changing the name.

Bearing in mind, perhaps in Skylands, Drow, as well as describing the species, could refer to that faction, a sort of umbrella term for various species within that group?
