So it seems Skylanders BattleGrounds is out on iTunes and just like Skylanders Lost Islands before it, neglects to mention it wouldn't work on older iThings in the iTunes store. **I'll get the popcorn ready

Who would pay $11 for the chest when you can buy the whole Pirate Seas at any store for $20?

I'm looking at the game entry in iTunes right now.

https://itunes.apple.com/ca/ap...d540442762?mt=8

Requirements: Compatible with iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad. Requires iOS 5.1 or later. This app is optimized for iPhone 5.

(edit: in case you think it doesn't show these requirements when using the app store on iOS, it does on my iPhone. I tap the "details" button and it shows the requirements there.)

Downloaded the app. TIME TO START ENTERING CODES. smilie

I wish I had the bluetooth portal for this. Entering in 50+ codes is not fun. I just did it a couple weeks ago for Lost Islands.

The portal makes registering characters in these 3 iOS games so much easier.

As for the chest. The chest unlocks every item for use from the store in Battlegrounds. Then, all you have to do, is pay coins to upgrade them.

However, if you didn't have the chest, it would either take forever to build up enough gems to buy them, or if I recall, you have to buy gems with real world money to unlock those items.

The chest unlocks them ALL... permanently. The real draw, is RDT, however.

I've played only a single battle and I already have 500 gems. You only need 800 to unlock every item plus up to four slots. The last two slots are 2000 each, but I'm not sure they are needed.

I am missing out on the coins from having the chest, though.

Another way to look at it, is it's another way to get the Hidden Treasure Magical Item.

I have often wondered what would happen if they discontinued the Adventure Packs? How would one go about getting Empire or Ice, Dragon's Peak, Darklight Crypt, Pirate Seas, the 8 Magical Items, as well as Ghost Roaster and Sunburn?

TFB really needs to work out a way to repackage some of the Series 1 stuff, to accomodate the lack of some things in Giants.

Like, what happens if some new adopter wanted Giants, bought Series 2 Slam Bam and Terrafin, only to then realize there are Adventure Packs that have the same characters, so they want them, but don't want Series 1 Slam Bam and Terrafin? How do they go about getting the Adventure Levels and 8 Magical Items, without having to double-dip on Slam Bam and Terrafin?

Here is a good way.

Sell a configuration that could be dubbed "The 8 Element Pack," and it could include the 8 Series 1 characters that didn't get a reposed.
Sell a configuration that could be dubbed "The Adventure Bundle," and it could include all 4 Adventure Level toys and 8 Magical Items.

They could sell the 8 Element Pack to entice buyers, or completionists, at 64.99.
They could sell the Adventure Bundle for 39.99

In anycase, for those who don't want Series 1 Terrafin, but wouldn't mind having the Treasure Chest, they now have another method of getting it.

My device has never had a "details" button, what you see in those screengrabs is exactly what I see when I view the App store through my device

That doesn't change the fact that the iPod Touch 3rd generation is listed as supported with iOS 5.1 or later (your iPod supports iOS 5.1.1)

Also doesn't change the fact that I have ordered the Starter Pack and am unwilling to pay for the App/use the code until I am 100% certain that the game will work on my device. Lost Islands didn't, even though (in my region's iTunes store) I have all the requirements. Once bitten, twice shy.

An interesting thing to note. The bluetooth portal can work on the PS3 when plugged in via USB. Unfortunately, it doesn't sync wirelessly via bluetooth. It's still neat though, since you can effectively have one portal work between the two platforms. No idea if this applies to the 3DS or 360 versions however.

^ How much does the app cost through iTunes (if you don't mind me asking)?? I'm guessing it's much cheaper than getting the figures and portal pack? smilie

In Aus the app alone is $7.50. Regarldless of how much more convinient it makes the game, and how it comes with two recolored items, the $43 extra isn't worthwhile IMO.

Decided what I should do. Got lost islands for free and clud patrol when it was free for a week. The game itself is $6.99. Jet-Vac, S2 Cynder, and RDT are worth $30, but I already have Jet-Vac and S2 Cynder from the starter pack. So treasure chest and portal are worth $13. Not a bad deal but I would have to sell the JV and S2 Cynder for me to have to buy it. Might think about it after the holidays so I'm holding off on buying the app now just incase I buy the set.

Battlegrounds is a ripoff of another game called Battleheart. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZIwWfp4OJ0

Watch this gameplay video and you'll see it pretty much uses the same basic concept. Drag to attack and use special attacks to get coins...it's an awesome game, but dang...I can't complain...I loved Battleheart and this is worth the price of admission. And the portal is totally worth it to transport your figures over rather than writing codes. Gnarly and Granite are not in the game. They only show up as regular versions.

This is what I've learned so far. And the chest is totally worth it too. smilie

Just got back from TRU and they had Battlegrounds starter packs on the shelf for $50. The TRU starter packs do not seem to contain Royal DT. Just standard DT.

Just am fyi. in a recent interview, Activision stated that it was coming out with some kind of a new interface that would allow ALL of the mobile games access to all of your Skylanders without having to enter them in each game. Enter the code in one game, and you'll have access to the character in all of the mobile games.

That is what an Activate account is for. Currently you can only get one in Cloud Patrol, but there are updates planned for Lost Islands and Battlegrounds to bring it in and make what you said possible.
