So, the episode was an MLP take on the old "we got the wrong person," gimmick a lot of cartoons use. But I think they handled it pretty cleverly.

With Hasbro recently shutting down a bunch of fangames, I am personally kinda glad that I never really got attached to any of them. There's value in me keeping my distance from them.

They have a very good reason to, Fighting is Magic got a bit too big for itself. It was going to be a part of a major gaming event after all. If they don't protect their IP's from non-licensed use, then they can come across an issue when trying to hold a case against a serious breach of copyright infringement in court.

Now, granted, in some cases people can appeal or obtain a licence to use the characters (much like the team at Double Rainboom) but because Fighting is Magic, FiW and Mentally Advanced aren't what Hasbro want to associate with MLP. Another example, the Lyra plushie - that Lyra plushie - the guy who made it got a C&D from Hasbro to not sell any more like it because that (obviously) wasn't what Hasbro want people to associate with MLP at all.

If people want to make fan-games, fan films ETC and they do reflect what Hasbro want people to associate with MLP then there's a high chance that they won't get C&Ded and that they could get a temporary licence to use the characters. Pony Kart probably won't get C&Ded since it's a nice, kid friendly kart racer. On top of that, small projects that don't get noticed won't get C&Ded because they're not big enough for them to affect the overall image of the franchise, some of the small creepypasta games are an example of this.

I am too. It's akin to a close friend getting a big-time promotion. A lot of shows deal with characters getting unexpected (or expected) promotions and then they dedicated episodes to dealing with the fallout of the changes.

In other news, there has been talk about other people that will continue Fighting is Magic unless the Mane6 brings up news that they will continue the project.
