Jin's Guide to adding articulation to your Skylanders! [CLOSED]

You asked for it, you got it. This guide shows you how to add basic cut joints, ball joints, and other figure joints to your Skylanders. We used Camo for the test subject as his design allowed me to incorporate all three customizing methods into making him posable. However since all Skylanders are different you'll need to use some creativity.

GUIDE TO ADDING ARTICULATION TO SKYLANDERS

Good luck!

That's great Jin...I'm sure I'll refer to it if I decide to customize some of these Boomers and Wrecking Balls from the Frito Lay promotion.

Awesome! Thanks for the guide, Jin. :D I was always wondering how to articulate Skylanders. I might try to do a couple in the future.

Great stuff Jin. Any comment on the use of what appears to be one of your Drobot mods in the Skylanders Giants trailer?

I wish I could do stuff like that but I'd probably end up cutting one of my fingers off or destroying the Skylander.

That's cool. I might test it with my father sometime.

er, i don't think cutting of your father's head and limbs and then trying to re-attach with screws and ball joints is a very good idea smilie

The folks at Activision and Toys For Bob are free to use any of my pictures or customs of their products. There's probably more if you look close. Paul RIII actually owns one of my Drill Sergents, heheh.

Why would anyone want to do this??? :'O I understand if you're good at it, but thinking about people who are bad at it ruining a skylander breaks my heart. Please please please don't do this unless you are sure it will come out good.

On another note, why would anyone spend money on a skylander that someone else repainted/articulated? That baffles me...

I'm not even sure how to answer this. Uh...because people have imagination? Because not all of is like to be fed what to do by rules dictated in a video game? There was a time children played with toys, took them outside in the leaves and had grand adventures under the covers when they were suppose to be asleep. You can't do that with statues or video games. Toys for Bob tried adding articulation to them after the fact but their pieces lined up only one pose and looked terrible in any other. So that was scrapped. I'm hoping I can help bridge the gap between action figures that use imagination and video games that can dull it if that's the only form of entertainment.

I don't understand why they don't just do something along the lines of this, it would be cheap and cool. Sure, it's Activision, but even they gotta throw a bone once in a while! smilie

I happen to like Jin's customs...not enough to pay for them, but I admire the work and artistry that goes into them. I think they're definitely neat looking, but I personally wouldn't want the official figures to be removable from their bases or reposable. Sure, they'd be cool in some respects, but imagine how much longer it would take for them to produce the figures and surely that would eventually lead us to have an even harder time finding ones we're looking for.

@FFM1994: In Jin's case, surely the answer you are looking for would be that others spend the money to buy his figures because of the amount of work and attention to detail that he's put into it in order to transform that mass produced lump of plastic into a work of art.

^ You, my good sir, win this thread smilie

Easy alternative: Like those old Pokemon Racer thingies stick holes on the feet and major parts of the Skylanders, and "pins" on the bases. They come in a default pose, can fit on the base well, but still able to be articulated and carried. Plus the base would so rarely be looked at I don't think people would mind seeing the posts on them. They can also release Unposed Editions for people who just want a non-articulated figurine.

WOOOOOW GILL GRUNT. Easily the best Skylanders related thing I've seen even though it's pretty tall.

I like old Drobot better, but I like how you added the wing lasers to this one smilie

I'm thinking of ordering some 4mm revoltech joints and drilling in holes smaller than the pegs so they can still swivel (no glue!).
Has anyone tried this yet? How did it work out?
