Display for sale on Ebay [CLOSED]

Really wanted to buy one of these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-PS...=item45ff5c0810

The bidding is probably going to go through the roof. The shipping alone is $30. Any guesses on how much someone is going to end up paying for this?

I guess $175.00

In the UK, it's fine as long as the company doesn't have a legal obligation to send it back (which often they do not).

These things are still used in the shops to display the Skylanders. Maybe the shops need to buy them? Or maybe Activision send them for free but ask to return them afterward...

I don't know really. But, I'm pretty sure it is written "For commercial use only, not for resale" on it or something like that.

Anyway, if this guy loses his job, it's not my problem =P

Most of the time, they're given by the company in question. Some companies ask them to return, but others let them keep them.

More often than not, they only end up in the bin anyway. Some companies don't mind handing them over to regular customers, but some won't thanks to the amount of people claiming they collect them, and then putting them up on eBay. One store I visit will only hand them over to me and a few select other people, as we're the only ones who have actually kept the items without selling them, so... I guess it depends on that too.

LMAO! I bid on it.

I got into a bidding war with someone, but they won, which is fine. I was set on a price, but I feel for the person who paid 248 bucks for the thing. I wouldn't have gone that high for a dinky 19 inch display, and a portal mountain that only demoes the game.

I'm not THAT crazy. 200 would have been fine with me (including shipping). Oh well. I save money, while someone is out a whopping 248 bucks. Ouch.

Well, it can only be owned by stores, unless store employees claim them cause they will be junked. It's not worth 248 (after shipping) though. I have a store willing to give me the other style of display (the ones you see at Best Buy and Gamestop), if they are allowed to, just cause they know me well enough.

The collectibility of it. Collectors can see more value in it than most people who just want the game and figures.
I guess another reason people may want it is the ability to say they own it.

I wasn't too far off with my $175 guess. Collector's want anything made, or made for, whatever it is they are collecting. This would be an excellent way to display a collection, not necessarily a way to play the game, unless one chose to play on it of course.
And please don't call things or people "stupid", that is uncalled for, and small-minded. It's okay to disagree with someone, just use some tact.
Gamemaster, sorry you didn't win. I would have loved to have it myself, although I have no idea where I would put it. I'm sure another display will be offered soon enough, so we will get another chance.

It's all good. For 248 bucks, someone else can have it.

I wouldn't pay over 200 for one. The second pic someone posted of the demo units, is the one I may secure in time, from someone who may give it to me when they change their display. I would get it for... FREE

The 2nd display (as they have it at Best Buy) is the one I'd love to have. But since I know nobody working at Best Buy anymore I don't see myself getting my hands on it (and I wouldn't pay much for it either, so eBay won't be an option).

True that. However, check this -

Store display capable of only displaying the games trailer and character demo: 248 bucks

32 unique, highly decorated and interactive, figures, capable of leveling to 10, going down two upgrade paths, coming with 4 additional chapters and 8 magical items, while each unlock a Heroic Challenge: 248 bucks

Now don't get me wrong. I would have paid 200 (after shipping) for that item. However 248 is a bit much, seeing as that's 1/4 of what my new 60 inch HDTV cost in my living room (700). When I got to thinking about it, I had hoped I was outbid, because if you look, it doesn't come with everything as stated. Those displays also include two more little rods that hold advertisements for the game (ie Meet Whirlwind/Drill Sergeant at Target/Walmart and the other side general info about the game).

200 after shipping is a lot better, because you're getting the display for less than 200. However 213 bucks for a 19 inch display, when you can go pay 187 for a 33 inch 1080p HDTV at Walmart, you can see where the value is at.

Plus, there's the chance I get the better display in the end... for free, just for being a good customer at a particular store.

I think it all boils down to what kind of collector you are. If you're just a normal collector, you can let this one slide.

A hardcore collector, however, wouldn't be able to let it slide. If I had the money (keyword: 'if') and it was something I collected that hardcore, I would never pass it up, even if it were something similar I could get. Luckily, I'm not that hardcore with anything (yet) smilie

Reimu, you do realise that kid is the ignitor on a new account. Same little pest as before.

I can definitely see value in these, if you kept it for a number of years and sold it you'd get a bit of dosh!

And I don't think he realises the value in these things, it's not just a case of going to the store to play on it, you have to have it.

I had to laugh a bit when I came across this post. I happen to know the individual who bought the Skylanders display. I have a good feeling that he was not overly concerned about the price... I bet many of the people who said it to not be worth what he paid are biting there tongue now. After the holidays and seeing what some of the average figures sold for it is hard to price the display. All in all I don't think there will be another one for sale on E-Bay any time soon.

I think the person who was selling it, made a dummy account and bought it.

Why? I don't see feedback left for the seller, or the buyer. That, and if it really sold, I bet the seller would be in deep trouble, as every store that got these, were instructed to keep the boxes and send them back when the displays come down.

I know for a fact who bought it and it was not the seller with another account. I also know it came in the original box from Activision. Also it had all the brackets and sign holders as seen in stores like Target and Walmart. The new owner is a collector as well. Not just of Skylanders but video games, figures, and other related items. The buyer also has the other Skylander display you would find in Gamestop and Best Buy.
