I dont understand, that malefor wants cynder and spyro dead, right, and at the start of the game, the minions go to where cynder, sparx and spyro had locked themselves in a crystal. The minions smash the crystal, spyro and cynder are fainted, why could have they have not killed spyro and cynder on the spot?

It's basically just another giant plothole. That and Malefor is quite possibly the dumbest, worst villain of all time. smilie

Another one of the major plotholes in DotD.

Or just a cliche, like how in movies the villian talks instead of shooting the hero and then the hero ends up winning because the villian was too stupid to take the shot and instead let the hero find a way out.

I just think the grublins look unintelligent, or tribal. They were trying to feed the Golem, I know that much.

Yes, but Malefor orders them around. Therefore, they weren't killed, by Malefor's orders.

Before I got to the end of the game, I was assuming that Malefor was still half a spirit and he needed a body (probably Spyro's) to possess. Given what we learned in TEN, that would have made a lot more sense than what we got in DotD.

Well I know he wanted to get Spyro on his side. Don't know why though.
He wanted Cynder too, but I think I know why.

I think he wanted Spyro on his side because he was also a purple dragon. The power of two purple dragons is enough to conquer the world with ease.

Either that or Malefor just wants two pets.

Malefor's motivations in DotD were really unclear. I never understood his goals (though at that point I was still wondering where the heck he'd suddenly got a body).

That might explain the concept art with the Spyro "Shadow".

Voldemort wanted to kill Harry himself only up to book 4 because he needed his blood. After that he really didn't care how Harry died so long as he did.

What concept art is this now? I don't think I've ever seen it.

Nope, what happened was that the stupid money hungry publishers decided it would be just awesome if they rushed a potentially huge game out.

I'm currently re-reading the series, so I'll let you know when I get to book 7. smilie I remember in book 4, though, he really didn't care after he got the blood but he wanted to kill Harry then for the lulz.

I finished book 7 last November, just before seeing the film. And I remember giving orders for nobody to kill him, but instead to bring him to him to he can kill Harry himself.

I don't plan to re-read the series, yet. I want to finish Narnia (currently on book 4), and re-read A Series of Unfortunate Events (I love those books).

I dunno about this. I think that he wanted Spyro and Cynder to either convince to go on his side, and if not, kill them. Either he was WAY too lazy to go to the crystal, or this was just to make the game longer. I'm not sure, though. He could also have just sent the golem to get them, and bring them back, too.

I daresay that's not true at all. Malefor being an idiot is a large part of what ruined the game completely in my book. They could have kept all of the exact same gameplay features and given him a real reason to want Spyro and Cynder to come to him (see my dead theory that he needed to posses Spyro's body in order to live again).

I was actually kidding when I said that, I don't know if I made it clear or not smilie

But that is true. I honestly think if they had taken the time, they would have included reasons to make it more.. well, reasonable. But the way the game was finished, they didn't.

Yeah,I mean it would make more sense if Spyro had to be sacrificed for him to ressurect the destroyer or something =/ plus that would cover up the plothole of ''why didn't malefor just release the destroyer 3 years ago/during that period''
sonicbrawler182 Platinum Sparx Gems: 7098
#31 Posted: 20:17:01 13/03/2011
They could of just made it that Malefor has some sort of magic artifact that he needs to awaken the Destroyer, and it takes time to activate, and the good guys have to get it off of him. Cliché, I know, but....who cares!?smilie

It's not any less cliche than the "story" we got and it would have done a lot to improve things. At least then he'd have an actual reason for doing what he was doing.

In the end, the whole thing is plothole ridden, and there's nothing that can or could've been fixed unless Krome had made the game.
sonicbrawler182 Platinum Sparx Gems: 7098
#34 Posted: 20:41:34 13/03/2011
I don't think Krome's absence was the huge problem, but it would of been less likely if they did make it. However, I definitely preferred EL's style for the gameplay.

But for me, I don't get bothered by plotholes that much. I may seem like I do with Sonic 06, but I generally just use plotholes to poke fun at a game. And Sonic 06's glitches are the bigger issue there......(******* MAGNETIC WALLS!!!!)

I would have preferred Krome. Even if the story had stayed as riddle with holes as it is, at least it would have felt more consistent with the previous installments in the trilogy.

I don't really care about consistency, as long as I get a fun game. Just look at the Western Super Mario Bros trilogy.smilie

With Krome, the plotholes wouldn't be there (or at least not that obvious) since it would be the same writers as the first two games.

And I honestly think everyone would've perfered Krome to have made the game. I like DotD the way it is, but we all know Krome would've made it so much better........provided they didn't make it a carbon copy of ANB like they did with TEN.

You know, I sometimes thought that Cynder was in on it the whole time. You never see Cynder being shackled when Spyro is, and Cynder is already awake when they are in the crypt. Another example of how Cynder could still be evil.

I wouldn't call it a major plothole. Just a cliche of a execution gone wrong. Like these:

I think that was done intentionally to keep us suspicious. Remember how they kept calling her "Spyro's former nemesis" on all the promotions for the game(even though that was two games ago....aherm....). I was suspicious on my first playthrough anyway. But the ending pretty much wiped out all my suspicions.

Alas, both of the things you linked RiverHippo are examples of parody. It's okay for them to do that because they're making fun of it. DotD was playing this trope straight, which makes Malefor impossible to take seriously even though we're supposed to.
