Past Spyro Game References in Skylanders [CLOSED]

I have noticed that there a few references of Skylanders Spyro to the previous Spyros in the past. A few references are discovered in his biography in Skylanders:

"Spyro hails from a rare line of magical purple dragons that come from a faraway land few have ever traveled. He has been on many exciting adventures, and has a remarkable knowledge of the different lands he protects, more so than any other Skylander. A strong‐willed dragon who is young at heart, Spyro is fearless and brave. A true hero dedicated to defending his world from all things evil."

  • "Spyro hails from a rare line of magical purple dragons" - A reference to the Purple Dragon of Legend prophecy in the Legend of Spyro games.
  • "has been on many exciting adventures" - Spyro's previous adventures possibly in the Classic series.
  • "A strong‐willed dragon who is young at heart, Spyro is fearless and brave." - Reference possibly from Classic Spyro's personality.

There also some gameplay references in the upcoming Skylanders game:

  • As seen in the teaser trailer, Spyro was controlling a pirate ship and blasting enemy fortress. This is similar to Classic Spyro controlling a vechile to take out enemies in minigames.
  • Spyro's main attacks are Fire Breath and Horn Charge. This is similar to Classic Spyro's main attacks in the Original series, Charge and Flame.
  • Spyro's Flight upgrade is a reference to Spyro's ability to fly in Dawn of The Dragon.
  • In the floating islands seen in the screenshots of Skylanders are obviously references to the Floating Islands from Dawn of the Dragon.
  • There are upgrades for Spyro in Skylanders is a possible reference to Spyro breath upgrades in the Legend series, and also reference to the upgrades in Spyro's attacks that are in Shadow Legacy when gained enough experience.
  • The giant turtles seen in the game Skylanders, being moved by the characters to finish puzzles is a reference to the Giant Turtles in Shell Beach from Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage when they are pushed onto switches in order to open gates for Classic Spyro and the baby turtles to progress through the level.
  • The sheep seen in one of the screenshots of Skylanders, is a reference to the Sheep fodder that is one of the popular additions in the Classic Spyro series.
  • The Element symbols in Skylanders is a reference to the Element symbols Spyro and Cynder possess.
  • Breakable containers and vases that contains treasure shown in a gameplay video of Skylanders is reference to the Classic series with breakable chests and containers that contained gems.
  • The playable characters in Skylanders who serve as the protector of their worlds is a reference to Shiela the Kangaroo, Bentley the Yeti, Agent 9, and Sgt. Byrd, who are playable characters in Spyro: Year of the Dragon and also serve as the protector of their worlds.

Makes sense. In a lot of ways, Spyro would not be Spyro without some of the elements you mentioned. At the same time it makes sense to take some references from previous games to use in Skylanders. Will love to see what else turns up!

Spyro can upgrade for flight, a reference to Dawn of The Dragon.
There are upgrades which is probably just put in there to make the game more enjoyable but could be a reference to TLoS.
Sky Schooner Docks(right one?) = Fellmuth Arena. It also has blades similar to Gual's two-sided one in the DS version of The Eternal Night.
Those floating lands are obviously references to the Floating Islands.

LoS Spyro wielding four elements is a reference to Classic Spyro's breath attacks in ETD and AHT, being to switch breaths. But it's not shown in Skylanders though.

It would be nice if the makers intended to make these references from the other past Spyro games to make the older audience feel that Spyro never left.

That would be nice. I think adding little things like those in can actually help the game in some ways. Deep down, I'd like to see Crash somewhere hidden, like they've done in previous games too.

The portal itself looks kinda like the one in ET, in his dreams. Some of the characters look like enemies from some past games. Idk if this is a charry, but i saw in one of the forum topics, and character alot like the skeleton soldiers in ANB. In the little skylanders logo, it has a few of spyros element icon-like things, only a tad different. Thats all i can really see right now.

Man...I've been dying to see this topic created. It literally screams "STICKY TOPIC"! Time for a contribution...!
  • Breakable containers! Coming from the classic series - break 'em and treasure comes out!
  • How the color of the sky represents the level. Examples - Sky Schooner Docks, and Crystal Eye Castle. Me miss polygon skies though...XD

...Yeah, I only have two in my mind. Tell me if these are good enough.

Those are excellent smilie

I also noticed that when Spyro using a spring and lands on top of a ship in teaser trailer, it was day-time, but in another gameplay video, it showed the same thing but it was night-time.

I wouldn't call breakable objects a Spyro reference. Breakable objects with collectables in them is a common mechanic in action games.

Yep, they're probably the most common. Sonic Unleashed, Zelda and God of War are chock full of them, as well as a few kids movie-tie in games.

Ooo, very nice finds! I'd noticed some of the stuff that reminded me of the classic games and that's part of why I'm leaning in favor of the game.

I don't see a mention of Spyro's design (especially his face and horns) resembling the original Insomniac Spyro.

Anyone else notice those ramparts in the trailer? They instantly reminded me of the Ramparts Sector in the Warfang Chapter of DotD.

IDK if these were added:
SHEEP!
The portal of power could be a reference to the portals in the old games.
Remember the trailer? It opens with the toys on a flying island city, but unlike the islands at the end of DotD, these had fans holding them up. This could be a reference to Cloudy Domain in A Hero's Tail.

With this, it's pretty obvious that Spyro never left us. Just like how LoS started something new, Skylanders is here to reboot there series. But with all of these references and the "SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP", it's pretty obvious that they are trying to bring the fandom into one.

But neither side will give the game a chance.

How can all these references be in my opinion anyways? I don't see it in any kind of way.
