The good things about Dawn of the Dragon [CLOSED]

Sorry if something like this has been done before.

It's clear that there has been a lot of negativity about this game, with some people going on about how Cynder has changed for the worse, how the guardians look older and have creepy fixed smiles, and a number of plotholes... yes, these are problems.

But let's always look on the bright side of life. So here's a topic to discuss the things in this game you thought were good, whether you are a fan or hater of it, without mentioning anything you don't like.

Just talk about any little bits you liked in it. Could be a few seconds of a cutscene, to a whole level.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Firstly, the music: beautiful, and it went really well with the scenery and levels. The second Burned Lands soundtrack is definately my favourite music in the whole of LOS series.

Scenery: If you go to a high point in Avalar from where you can see the distant mountains, it looks lovely. There are loads of places in the game like this. And places like the forest part of Twilgiht Falls are really pretty too, particularly with the music playing at the same time.

Random flying dragon warriors in Warfang: I had to mention those awesome, unusual guys. I love their concept art in the gallery.

Mason: He appears for a few seconds and vanishes. You have to use those few seconds to conjure up an image of what he's like: He seems obediant, responding to Ignitus immediately. Perhaps, as Ignitus already knows his name, he helped the guardians in the past, or over the three years between TEN and DotD. He would have to be trustworthy for the guardians to ask for his help. He has a good knowledge of unusual items, and can probably detect if they are dangerous or evil. He seems like a good member of the army.

It's nice that there is a topic like this. I have a lot of things I like:

I agree with the things you said.

I loved the combat. It feels really fluid and unique. Also, the addition of Cynder really spiced up the combat.

Flying was fun and can make you feel somewhat at peace.

Platforming and puzzles were cool and well-designed.

Story was entertaining and had a sweet ending.

In regards to Cynder, this was her best appearence for me. She had so much wit, yet still made it obvious she was sad or scared over the situation.

That's all I could be badgered typing right now! :3

I liked Cynder's colouring in this game. Cute as she was in TEN, I never really liked black/grey, makes her seem to dark and evil. People go on about how she looks purple, but she is a fair bit darker than a purple dragon.

Also, I found that there were parts near the beginning where Cynder's voice- often the target of complaint- was actually not too bad.

I actually don't see much problem with her voice at all, TBH. It suits just fine and there WAS emotion.

I also loved the colouring. It suits the teen look better IMO. Here's a comparison for everyone to make their own decision:

Also, she looks quite black here anyway (Skip to 0:17):

I love the black/grey on her in the previous games, but I have to agree that black Cynder wouldn't suit her in DotD, unless she was still being done by Krome. Krome Cynder= Black, EL Cynder= Dark Blueish.

Yeah, I find the black makes her look skinnier somehow. Weird, I know!smilie

Anyway, I can't stress how much I love the Valley of Avalar as a level. It looks amazing and it's such a well-designed level! Also, Dragon City was so action-packed and intense! I never get bored of either of those levels!

That's because of the shadow. Also, I could really see perves doing something foul with tat trick. I myself thought that video was going in the wrong direction, what with the title, Cynder's pose and the direction the camera went in at the start. DX XC

The Avalar theme was nice, and so were the graphics but that's it.

Meh, it doesn't faze me, probably because I'm a boy(I've noticed that everyone I've seen complain about the sexual aspects of Cynder are, to my knowledge, girls). And besides, it's a videogame. It WILL have what I like to call "accidental porn", especially if it stars non-realistic characters with a variety of animations.

I was only posting that video for the black thing. I even noticed in my Xbox 360 copy of the game that she sometimes looks black under shadow.

Alright, I'll say it. DotD is total crap save for this one thing:

Cynder's in-game model looks alright and moves pretty neatly.

Also, the Hermit is cool and the Twilight Falls music is nice. Everything else was crap.

That was suprising! I didn't think you would have any positive things to say about DotD, let alone directed towards Cynder!

One GREAT thing I noticed about DotD is that it wasn't a glitchy, buggy trainwreck like Sonic 06. We got a functional game for Spyro's 10th anniversery, while Sonic got a buggy game for his 15th anniversery! HUZZAH!

I will give some more now:

Flying: A feature that was long overdue. Sure, it's not completely free, but it served well. It was very smooth and I could honestly feel the beat of Spyro/Cynder's wings! It also has a lot of little tricks.

Immersive: DotD is one of the most immersive games I have ever played. When the fighting was hectic, I was tense. When exploring the Valley of Avalar(just one example), I really feel at peace. It makes me feel I am Spyro(travelling with a beautiful girl!). I often find myself revisiting levels just to admire the scenery.

Co-Op: Works suprisingly well. It's a great game to play with a friend. The tether works well and has an elasticty to it. Even in Single Player, the option to change dragon on the fly is really useful for creating combos in combat.

Hidden Things: I liked having hidden things in the game that were actually useful. I was always keeping an eye out for armour!

Agreed! smilie
I honestly could not figure out whether he was a boy or girl in the game!

As for the things I liked in DotD.. I loved the music. I really didn't care that they reused a lot of the tracks, considering I loved them the first time I heard them in ANB and TEN.
I also loved the graphics. The full-on cutscenes.. I loved to watch them. And I loved the scenery, especially in Valley of Avalar, Twilight Falls, and the Floating Islands.

And I also agree with the first post. I liked the fact that they added random dragons flying in the Dragon City. That small stuff just made the game more enjoyable for me. Like the fact that when Volteer, for example, was distracting the Golem, you actually saw him doing so, instead of him disappearing. (Even though he did dissapear without a trace later..) Another example would be that you could see the Destroyer climbing the mountain in the background in the Burned Lands. I don't know.. I just like looking for the tiny stuff snuck in there.

As a younger kid, I always wanted a Spyro game with co-op, a playable female dragon character, and flying. DotD brought all three of those.
-I could finally team up with my best friend instead of taking turns.
-There was finally a female dragon to play as. Sure, you could unlock Ember in AHT, but it was basically still Spyro. Cynder had different elements/attacks, and it was a great break from Spyro.
-Flying. I had always wanted flying as a little kid, so it was like a wish come true. It made the game really enjoyable for me.

I loved the storyline, regardless of all of the plotholes and people who dislike it. Even if you find the story cliche, I liked it because it took it and incorporated it into my favorite game franchise.

I don't feel like typing any more smilie

Agreed, I loved having the Destroyer there. I also liked the fact that they had the cheetahs in the cheetah village repairing the buildings, I don't know why but it just looks good.

I loved those warriors, I loved them so much that I even gave them names, characters and important roles for a story I was writing. I loved their design, especially the expression on the face of the one in the allies gallery.

I loved Chief Prowlus' appearance, he was my favourite design for a cheetah. I loved his ears, his colouring- as tigerlike as it was, for a cheetah- and his clothing.

I liked the early design for Malefor in the enemies gallery. Though it wouldn't suit Malefor himself (way too femenine and different from the statue in the temple etc.) it did inspire another (female) character in my not-going-to-be-written-story. I just loved that design almost as much as I loved the random warriors.

One last random point I liked: Part of the cutscene at the end of Twilight Falls, where Hunter says: "It was an ancient earth golem from the deep. They are the embodiment of destruction summoned by Malefor himself." I just like the way Spyro and Cynder look while they're listening to him, though I don't really know why I like it... Though Cynder does lie down twice, she's lying down before the camera goes to Hunter's face and then she's standing up, and then she goes down again.

I watched a few videos of the inconsistencies in Braveheart, and there were some pretty funny ones! smilie There was one where there was a white car in the background, and one of the crew was walking by in a baseball cap smilie

This makes me want to look for more inconsistencies in DotD. smilie

Anyway, I also loved the guardian's appearances in this game. I preferred them over their Krome designs. They seemed.. I don't know.. more magestic to me smilie

There is one where he is running into battle with a sword, then there is a screen cut, and after that he has an axe, then another screencut, and he has a sword again!smilie

There are more actually. I can ponit them out!

I liked Iggy better in the Krome design(he just looks badass!), but the other guardians looked better in the EL style. Especially Terrador, who looks goofy in the Krome design, IMOsmilie!

Yeah, I didn't mind the Krome design, just sometimes they looked rubbery. The only problem I had in the EL design was their fat legs. There's good and bad things about both designs for me smilie

Okay, this will be a challenge for me to try and think up of things that I like about this hell of a game. This will be like looking for a needle in ten miles of hay.

1. The first soundtrack that you hear after you help out at the village in the Valley of Avalar, it's a nice track, the only track I like in the whole series.

2. The first three levels are fantastic, there were an interesting way to start off the last game, bits of the gameplay in the first two levels kind of reminded me of Tomb Raider, and I liked that, and the gameplay in the Valley of Avalar is just right, you have a big area which means that you can get away from the enemies easier.

That's all I can think of.

I like almost everything about DotD. Yeah there are some errors in it but every game is going to have some kind of flaw in it. In my oppinion, DotD is getting too much "abuse" from a lot of the posts I've read. For me I love the game. The graphics are great the gamplay is awesome. The controles are a little weird after playing the other games but it does kinda make sense. As for Cynder....I think she looks very cool in this game in fact I think she looks better as a teenager. She looks good in the other games too but this one is my favourite. I also think that the shade of colour she is suits her better than in the other games.
Here are my thoughts of Cynder:
ANB:A little bit too black/grey depending on the cutscene, very pretty and I liked her voice.
TEN:Cute, a bit too greyish and her voice was ok.
DotD:Very cool and teen looking, perfect in colour and her voice actually suited her a little better than the others.

My own oppinion. Also its not your right to tell some one to "get over" something when it gets on there nerves badly so I can state my oppinion if I want to. I used the word "abuse" because in my eyes it is being abused with all the negative comments about it even though it is a well made game.

Ok back on topic for me....I think the guardians look a little weird cause I'm use to how they looked in the other games but I still think that they are cool. And one other thing is I think that the second level could have been a little longer but it's still a good level.
