And there we go, a purple dragon.

Actually...

Spyro was not meant to be green but black at first. Still, since he blinded in too much whenever there's shadows around, they changed him to purple (which kind of stand out nearly everywhere).

I think there's a site somewhere with the original artwork of the "complete" Spyro (what he meant to look like when they begun working on the game), before they decided to make him purple and to make the game's final, official artwork.
