I'm honestly not quite sure about that. Yes, there was certainly a government-backed effort to boost support well into the war, but it took us a while to get there in the first place. Before Pearl Harbor, the nation was starkly divided over whether to intervene. Isolationism was a key part of American culture and therefore foreign policy up until that point.

However, since the end of WWII and the beginning of the Cold War, isolationism is a complete joke when used in the same sentence as America and everyone knows it. That's why our reaction to 9/11 was what it was, and why it's continued.
