Just took a good look at the site for the first time, and it looks somewhat less active than DS. Makes me wonder which Spyro forum site came first, and which is most used. Anyone have experience with Spyroforum/knowledge of this topic?'

Edit: Looks like DS was around in 2005, while Spyroforum was around in 2006, so DS is older...?

DS is older, BUT Spyroforum also changed hands I think? Could be a bit hard to pinpoint if they ever changed forum hosts, since DS has always been the same place as it's always been.

Also, bottom of the site lists 2004 as the DS's opening.

I've been banned from that site 19 times. Eventually I'll get around to making it an even 20. It's a **** site that barely any goes on anymore. I'm surprised the admin hasn't given up yet.

Correct, Spyrorocks used to be the sole admin, but he lost interest in it years ago and eventually handed it over to me to maintain. The host didn't change as far as I'm aware, but the forum software did in 2014.


As for "giving up" because it's "dead," yes lol we gave up on expecting new members a long time ago. We're all still around because we've been friends for years and just enjoy ****posting and occasionally talking about Spyro.

God the only reason I remember that forum is because of a user that I thought was chill af, but turned out to be a big asshole of hypocrisy.

I think the most interesting part is that Reignited barely brought ANY activity to either forum. The r/Spyro discord isn't doing too well either after the initial explosion, but that's probably because r/spyro likes to push away anyone that isn't a Classic fanatic. The Crash fandom got revived like a phoenix rising from the ashes while we just got 4 new regulars and that's kinda it.

Yeah, I was kinda surprised by that too. We had a temporary slight increase in registrations and a few older members who came back, but not too many stuck around. Our "reunion" Discord is more active than the forum, but even that can go an entire day without anyone talking sometimes.

Social media has been killing forums for years now, it's been pretty sad to see. I don't know how to explain Crash though.

I made an account there years ago and recently revisited it out of curiosity. I was too embarrassed at my previous few posts to use the account now. They were mlp related.

I can speak from experience, the administration and mods like to pretend to be tolerant and all accepting, but they and the reddit and discord are a cesspool of toxicity. I will not deny that I myself am a OG purist, but I at least respect the opinions of those who enjoy other aspects of the Spyro franchise, meanwhile the discord mods are a bunch of self righteousness narcissistic pricks who assume that they are more intellectually superior to the franchise and gaming than they have any right to act and look down upon others who aren't part of their inside circle.
I can understand that they have such a large amount of members joining the discord and subscribers to the reddit that they don't want to thought police every single individual who expresses their opinions on the Spyro franchise, but far to often they let certain individuals abuse the rules and act vitriolic until the situation reaches a boiling point and they have no other choice than to react. I feel that as an ex-moderator, I had to walk on eggshells and would try to avoid confrontation so I apologize that I didn't do enough and will admit that I was sort of blinded to the facts of what I should have done until it was to late and I myself got burned by these people.
But yeah, tldr, what Bifrost said pretty much, the reddit and discord are the worst offenders of the Spyro community.

What was the fandom war of 2011, if I may ask? I'm assuming it had something to do with Skylanders due to the date. But I also know something yucky must have happened with Aura24 for her to leave DS...

Skylanders existed. Some people liked it. Most people hated it. Some people that hated it did not want to acknowledge the existence of people that liked it. Of course the answer is harassment like a bunch of 13 year old bullies at lunch break. Some people still live in 2011 and think that 'lol pug dragon that takes butt selfies' is a surefire way to change anyone's mind on Skylanders when it only gets people to sigh and leave.

No offense to Stormy, but SpyroForum got REAL BAD with it. At times it felt encouraged. I was still a lurker at that point, not sure if I actually had an account, but I certainly left around that time since DS was in every way all the news source I needed (thanks to Aura and crew). R/Spyro keeps that with a healthy dose of also bashing LoS for being "cringy".

Aura was something else entirely. Issues with Dark not doing anything (or doing laughably little) about repeated attempts of harassment against her; pretty much everyone agrees that there was bias especially with the straw that broke the camel's back, but we can't really do anything about it without global mods or better mod tools.

No offense taken. It did get really bad. I tried to discourage it as much as possible but it clearly didn't work. I definitely saw that attitude from some members actively scaring Skylanders fans (and even people who were just optimistic about it before it came out) away from the site altogether. This forum has always been more active than SF, but I think it was the Skylanders stuff that really cemented it.

As for the Legend of Spyro era fandom war bull****, I have to admit I was one of the obnoxious classic Spyro crusaders. I don't like Legend of Spyro but my attitude about it as a teen was cringier than the games could ever hope to be, lol. Kinda sad that stuff is still happening elsewhere in the fandom. :/

I really REALLY dislike DOTD, but honestly if people want to like that and look back with nostalgia, I'm fine with it as long as they don't ignore that the game had issues or that not everyone wants that back. As I said a few times on Discord disussing some toxic posts on reddit, I'd much rather talk about Why I Like Thing, intead of Why I Don't Like Thing. Makes my life a little better.

Thanks for filling me in. Geez, I guess every fandom has its toxic bits then, huh. I've been sort of aware of the hate for TLOS on Discord and Reddit. Most of the time, I've just seen Skylanders bashing, though. But from what I understand, each fandom has some amount of warring factions, so I guess its not out of the ordinary.

tlos is absolutely edgy but that doesnt make it not good
