When is a prank no longer a prank?

To me, if a parent destroys their child's toys or console in front of them for YouTube, that's not funny, that's child abuse.

What's your idea of a prank or a joke going too far?

A prank isn't a prank if it deliberately harms the victim (either physically or mentally). If you actually destroy someone's valuables for a reaction, then that's not a prank. But, if you pretend to destroy them or make them think that you're going to when you're really not, then that's a prank.

I think the best kind of pranks are those that leaves the victim confused, but they find it funny such as filling their room with harmless objects. Confuse, don't abuse.

The key is, when getting caught, to keep going on and keep on intense stare to your roommate. Then your roommate starts to feel incomproable feeling of awkwardness and fear that he/her will leave you alone.

Pranks cease to be pranks when they cause irreparable damage to one's belongings or they either harm the victim emotionally of physically.

It doesn't really get more complex than that.
