Playing Battlecast without the App?

Doing a video for FamilyGamerTV on Battlecast today and we have packs etc at home and the app downloaded. I've been reading the FAQs on the Activision site, but nowhere does it talk about whether you can actually play this game without the app? It seems ludicrous to me that you wouldn't be able to if you knew the rules or are there very specific things that happen in the app that you can't reproduce just playing physical?

Ultimately if you can't play physical, beyond the actual collecting aspect, the cards might as well be thrown in the bin after they've been scanned right?

Yes, there is no real way to play with the physical cards. They have no use other than to scan into Battlecast. You can make up your own rules but for now, there is no game to play the physical cards with.

If you had pen and paper or number counters like Pokemon cards come with, could you do it then or is there a specific feature in the game that the cards couldn't represent?

You'd just need a lot of paper/chips for status and rules so dice can mimic the crystal gain. There's no physical play set in stone but everything can be done IRL as long as there's something to keep track of all the status, gear and whatnot.

It's just going to be a lot of math to get it to work and it probably won't be fun for kids to participate in

If you have a Pokémon set it wouldn't be that bad, I think. Just use the damage chips for the same function, maybe create some 50 damage ones to speed it up, and associate Paralyze with Ensnare, Sleep with Mute, Burn with Subdue, that kinda stuff.

It's possible to make it happen since some of the Hearthstone community tried even replicating the board in real life. It's just going to be alot more time consuming with all the calculations and indicator/marks exchanged each turn.

If people made up a way to play with the old stat cards, they will definitely come up with a way to do this

Its why I took snapshots of all the villains, their special cards, etc. I want some way to keep this game going in theory if they pulled the plug tomorrow.
