My sister did.

Gross IMHO.

But it's ok if your friend does it.

Yes, but not in the way you think. If you put salt in the water, it increases the boiling point of the water, which helps it cook better. I don't put salt ON my pasta or anything, I just use it for prep.

Does it add to taste at all? I'm likely gonna have pasta tonight.

Not really, especially if you use any type of salt.
It really only would if you add a ton, but to increase the boiling point, you really only need a dash or two. Nothing major.

Nope. A couple of times I've found that the pasta with sauce itself is salty as ****, so even if it's to decrease cook time (which is very short) I wouldn't dare.

Just garlic (when I feel like adding anything) in my opinion. And as CAV said, the sauce makes it even more.

My dad does that! Tortalini, cauliflower, anything! smilie

It adds extra flavor, depending on how much salt you put it. Cauliflower with salt tho <3

Bet me to the punch!

Yeah, it's good technique to put salt in your water when boiling pasta. It helps it get to Al Dente, which is a tell tale sign of a good noodle.

If you don't know what Al Dente is, its basically when the noddle is soft enough to bite into, but it has a toughness to it that gives it good texture. Soggy noodles or hard noodles is bad cooking, Al Dente is ONE FIIIIINE NOODLE.

Actually, the main reason you add salt to your water is to add flavor to the actual pasta itself. You want flavor in your sauce and in your pasta too, and adding salt is the only way to do that.
But the boiling point thing is correct too.

Yeah adding salt in general for flavor is a thing lol so yeah i think it's safe to say you should add salt when cooking pasta

I add garlic-pepper seasoning and a little bit of olive oil when I boil the noodles. And then I add parmasan cheese and butter when it's done.
