A Complaint about FIGURE QUALITY [CLOSED]

Well, I don't really know if the figures for the next game are going to look better. I'm just saying we can't really judge the figure quality yet because we haven't seen any of the figures. But yeah, basically like Drek said, TfB's figures do tend to be more detailed and better polished than VV's.

How heavy is the rest of your collection for that to happen? An arm or a wing is understandable, but he must've been squashed flat to lose all of them.

I am surprised to see so many issues with people breaking Skylanders.
In my house, the parents do take measures to help ensure the figurines are well-cared for, but when two boys play with those figurines every day, the toys are inevitably going to be subjected to physical stresses from drops, pulls, bends, and falls.

And ... maybe it's just luck, but the only breakage issue we had with SuperChargers is Jet-Vac, who just flat-out broke off his base at the leg/ankle from a single drop.
In general, the worst offenders for poor figurine quality are from the older Skylanders, which often featured skinny articulations (neck, shoulder, etc.), like Hex, Chop Chop, Chill, and Mini-Jini. Also, although it wasn't a breakage issue, almost every Voodood I have ever seen needs Cialis for his axe.

That said, I DO appreciate the extra sturdiness and solidness of past oversized Skylanders (Giants and Trap Masters), which I often felt justified (at least a little bit) the extra retail cost for those figurines.
The SuperChargers figurines don't meet those expectations, and I do think Activision will be making a very large mistake if the next series of Skylanders has a higher price point without a significant improvement in quality.

Generally, if you want to avoid broken Skylanders, store them upright, standing, off the floor, and away from pets. Placing a bunch of Skylanders in a box, bucket, bag, or other form of "jumbled up" storage is asking for broken parts. Dogs (for whatever reason) seem to think Skylanders are chew toys.

Edit: funny thing for the day: when I first tried to submit this post, it was rejected because it contained a different drug name instead of "Cialis" above (V**gra). Hahahaha!

My own quality control sob story - I picked up the Legendary air racing pack and unfortunately didn't notice until after I'd opened the thing that my Legendary Sun Runner was missing a pilot's seat! Someone in the factory had forgotten to put it in.

So I've sent the figure back to activision, and waiting for a replacement. This was late Oct. I just called today to check status and it turns out my case has to be escalated because legendary figures are not an easy replacement apparently. smilie

How do you send a figure back to Activision for a replacement? A figure I imported looks a bit wonky (the wing wasn't fully put into its slot so you can see a bit of the piece meant to go inside and there is some excess glue on the armpit aside from various black dots on the face) and want a replacement.

I've been super scared of storing everyone together ever since I found Spyro's wing bent after taking them to a friend's house(thankfully it just went back to its original position, but still scary). I FINALLY got the glass shelf for them, and even asked for an extra one because I'm not risking having to put them in a box or something should I start to buy more low priority.

They're pretty sturdy for someone who regularly drops them if they're on the way of my arm on the desk, though, and Ninjini was especially sturdy for a figure with thin parts when I was customizing one.

I keep my Skylanders collection in rows on shelves. So there's not really any risks of breaks for me. I still have plenty of room left on my shelves, too. I compressed the space between them recently just to make way for future games and now they don't even take up half the storage space.

Question, has anyone claimed warranty on a figure because it is badly painted/not very well put together?

I ask because three of my figures are kinda irking me still and I can't return them to the store. They work, thankfully, which is why I tried not to make a big deal about it but since I've decided to display my Skylanders I have found myself increasingly displeased with them.

I don't think anyone has bothered with it unless it's too much on-your-face, but if you have a stable hand you can try fixing their paint with acryllics. Just takes a really small brush and only a quick dip in water and cloth to look good as new(though if you don't have experience, of course better to attempt this with biig mistakes like mispainted eyes). Oh yeah, and a matte varnish if your brand is sticky once dry.

I had an issue with paint coming clean off the figures. This could just be my figure, but Fiesta's paint comes clean off.
The red details (I do not know what to call it, apologies) on his face just wiped off and I had no other choice but to paint it back on.
On the Crypt Crusher, the left hand on the skeleton arm isn't even glued together. It easily falls off and I keep losing it. (Need more glue)
My SS Smash Hit is horrendous, you can see the seam where the plastic was put together on his left arm and across the base. (I won't even start with the figure's paint job.) With every variant I own the engine bases feel really cheap.
I too was disappointed with Splat, she is missing so much detail that I never noticed before.
I have so many complaints for the figures, I don't wish to be so negative but it really bugs me.

Ahh, I might need to do this but for now I'll deal.

Any tips on how to get a wing out? My Spotlight does not have her wing all the way in (so I can see the piece that's supposed to be inside) and I don't think yanking it is a good idea considering how much softer the material for her wings are. Actually she seems a lot softer than any other Skylanders I've had.

To mess with anything on the figure itself it's always good to use a hair dryer to make it even softer and maybe something to cut it off if it still doesn't come out. There's a chance it'll be stuck that way but you can always just cut that out then put it back in and use glue to cover the hole up or something.

Well that's quite a process. Thanks for the response. I guess I'll just leave her be. Maybe I'll try to find some paint to fill in that indent on the wing that should've been inside the wing slot.

My only real problems have been with Giants, actually. I've already had to replace Crusher, Swarm, and Hot Head a couple times each.

Yeah my Granite Crusher is the only one I've had an issue with but after I maxed him out and stopped putting him on the base because he kept randomly saying it wouldn't read. I just want to believe he is retired and hopefully I haven't lost all my data.

I never really had any problems with the Skylanders I have purchased (both online and in stores). My series 1 Drobot's wing keeps popping off at times, but it's an easy fix.

I picked up a Heavy Duty Sprocket and Twin Blade Chop Chop- They both make a rattling noise when moved and Sprocket rotates 360 in her tank due to being loose. It's kind of fun, though.

This is a fact. It's a shame the functionality of the Amiibos is limited (even if they are cross game) but what a wonderful purchase it is. They're all of quality and the stock is much better. Skylanders figures look like toys from Burger King compared to them.

Yes Amiibo and Disney Figures are nicer quality but one thing I hate about some of the Amiibo figures is the clear pieces of plastic they use to support some of the figures in their pose. Looks so tacky and I don't like it at all. They would look sooooo much better without it. I'm sure its there for a reason to make the figure more secure and stable....but still....Looks bad! Disney Infinity figures however are far superior than Skylanders in quality. That cant be denied.
Hexin_Wishes Yellow Sparx Gems: 1522
#74 Posted: 14:49:07 24/02/2016
Yeah, some of those support stands are tacky but it's mostly the Smash figures because those emulate poses that were not actually meant to be figures lol

Cannot say anything in terms of actual quality since I've never had an Infinity figure nor and Amiibo in hand but I wouldn't say Skylanders are that much worse.

I think it all boils down to which style you prefer:
- Amiibos are identical to their in-game counterparts and their styles vary a lot according to the series they come from;
- Infinity figures are like parodistic cartoony version of the Disney characters we all know and love and they all have a similar style, looking a lot like actual toys instead of frozen creatures;
- Skylanders tend to have a bit less details then their in-game models but they all look like the frozen and shrunken down versions of the playable characters, with (in general of course) lots of shadings, special textures, special effects such as glitters, transparent parts, pearlized colors, metallic paints and such.
They have two basic styles which have been given by the two main developing teams.

I sincerely wouldn't call figures like Tree Rex or Snap Shot "Burger King toys" but to each his own.

There definitely has been a huge step down in quality. Amiibo production and distribution is so much better. Skylanders just doesn't seem to care much anymore, hence the huge step down in quality and the Yawn Trap Phenomenon.

Exactly. What good is all that detail if the paint/assembly job is sloppy?
