I'd bet that there's way more kids who would want to see Star Wars rather than The Chipmunks. The first one was decent, the second was barely watchable, and the third was just bad. The original show wasn't anything spectacular, it was good, but nothing special really.

It's safe to say I'll be seeing Star Wars instead.

pitting it up against a franchise monster that sells millions of dollars every year in toys, movies. said franchise also has taken it's place as a classic in movie history and has continued to gather fans for over 20 years now.

the road chip is going to be a fantastic bomb and it will finally put alvin and the chipmunks in their much needed grave.

So, someone out there actually thinks that they can compete with goddamn Star Wars with the movie equivalent of shovelware.

I mean it is stupid that they're trying to take Star Wars head-on, but this will probably still make a quick buck as sad as it sounds. There's different audiences for both films and even though Star Wars is going to destroy Chipmunks(and putting it that way is the understatement of the century), that doesn't necessarily mean Chipmunks won't make any money.

Not that I'm going to see Chipmunks 4 anyways. I'm not big on Star Wars but i'll gladly take that over another atrocity like the Chipmunks.

And this isn't even considering the buzz that The Hateful Eight is going to get. or that Mockingjay Part 2 is likely going to be still playing around that time.

December 2015 is going to be insane for the movie industry.

This is like when Disney released Winnie the Pooh the same day as Deathly Hallows. It's just going to end really badly for the smaller of the two.

I can't remember where I found the article, but I read somewhere that Force Awakens is expected to make $615 opening weekend worldwide, or somewhere around that range. by comparison, Jurassic World made $510 million opening weekend, i believe.

And, Star Wars is one of the most beloved franchises of all time. The first one even held the record for the world's highest grossing movie for a while. More people like Star Wars than like Jurassic Park, it's clearly going to make more, even if it pulls an Episode I. I highly doubt it will though, seeing as everyone involved is very passionate about the project, and Abrams himself is a huge fan of the series.

Star Wars easily outclasses Alvin and the Chipmunks, so the latter doesn't stand a chance against the former.

Is the chipmunk movie series even popular? They're so corporate ideals of trying to "get down with the kids" that you think it's more like a parody but then I remember a troll in central park existed as a real movie and now I'm depressed again.

That aside, no movie, made as a Xmas movie cash-ins or Oscar bait season or anything else, should not compete against Star Wars under any circumstances. If Fox is still torn on no longer releasing Star Wars in cinemas themselves, this is not the answer, not that they would get it since they publicly released a new ashcan Fantastic Four.
