We got to the point where you can't tell whether an image is from a video game or if it's real life.

Gran Turismo and Forza are really ****ing good with their graphics and especially still images. People get tricked often with them.

I'd guess the second one because the snow has crooked lines on the ground.

I think the first is fake because the poles look odd.

I think both are from the game; the closer areas of the screenshots just look too much like flat textures. Not that I've seen snow IRL to begin with,but that and the cars just look a bit too shiny to be real for me.

They're both from GTA V PC. The gameplay is great.

The way I could tell was because I know that car (Progen T20) is in GTA, and because the snow tracks are kinda unrealistic.

I watched a walkthrough for that, scared the crap out of me. It's so cool how realistic it is though.

Even though I was wrong I still think there's a lot to say for the graphics of the two racing sims I mentioned earlier.

When it comes to fooling our brains into thinking an artificial reproduction is real, the ultimate trial is making photorealistic human beings. With everything else our brains might go "eh, close enough" and register it as real, but when it comes to human beings, especially human faces, our brains are incredibly tough to fool.

I unfortunately cannot be fooled since I actually work with game engines so I know how to tell if something is real or a game/CGI image.

The screenshot I posted was for Forza 6.

I'm sure Horizon 2 is fine as well but just need to make that distinction.

Some of the road and the snow looks textured, the reflection, the shiny of the car does look very much what you'd find off of a pre-rendered cutscene of a videogame or in this case what does look like CGI for the gameplay. But the backround can throw one off as it is very realistic looking.

All-in-all, it is still very amazing that of our day and age how close we are getting there. These are still great pieces of work and nearly reach terms of what is realistic in our world.

That's like asking me why and what parts of anime don't look like real life. Every part, because it just doesn't. It looks off. I can't describe why it looks fake, it just looks fake.

I'm sure I would be much more impressed if I was actually interested in the games, and it is pretty beautiful graphics, but it wasn't really very stunning, and it was obviously fake to me.
