Burger King has reached out to McDonalds to suggest the two chains team-up to create the ultimate burger - available for one day only.
The "McWhopper", as it's being called, would help to "settle the beef" by combining the Whopper and the Big Mac into one entity, separated by a burger bun.
Burger King is proposing the McWhopper be sold for 24 hours only at a pop-up restaurant in Atlanta, chosen for it's equidistant location between Chicago and Miami. Staff uniform and takeaway bags would also be a compromise, mixing McDonalds red and Burger King brown.
As for when the experiment could take place, it's being proposed for September 21 - already declared by the UN as an International Day of Peace. Any proceeds raised would be donated to charity, but the company doesn't want punters to pay for the McWhopper with cash, but rather by signing a tray mat declaring who they want to make peace with.
However, McDonald's declined the offer and replied with this:
Quote: McDonald's
Dear Burger King,
Inspiration for a good cause... great idea.
We love the intention but think our two brands could do something bigger to make a difference.
We commit to raise awareness worldwide, perhaps you’ll join us in a meaningful global effort?
And every day, let's acknowledge that between us there is simply a friendly business competition and certainly not the unequaled circumstances of the real pain and suffering of war.
We’ll be in touch.
-Steve, McDonald’s CEO
P.S. A simple phone call will do next time.
So it doesn't seem that the 'McWhopper' will be happening anytime soon. However, that won't stop me from making my own!
