So my friend thinks she can own a panda [CLOSED]

Like no. The thing itself costs way too much money, plus the bamboo that it's gonna eat a day is gonna be thousands a month. Plus it needs a lot of space, and it needs to drink and have shelter. No average family living in florida can manage owning an animal like a panda. Get a fricken goldfish or something

I'm pretty sure it's illegal to own one anyway? Not only are they endangered, which that by itself would probably make it a no-no to own one, but they can actually be quite dangerous, just like any other bear, really. Just because they look cute and cuddly all the time and you see those videos where they act silly doesn't mean they won't attack if they feel like they need to.

Are you sure she's not just joking? Or it's just like, wishful thinking?

No. She's actually legit. I told her it's illegal but shes saying her dad knows someone that is a panda breeder.

"Ugh shut up. Rules rules rules"

She could just be lying for attention, or stretching the truth to make it sound like something it isn't. Because honestly I don't even know how it would be possible to own a panda.. maybe if you live in the middle of nowhere and have a ton of money and buy one through some illegal breeder, which that one guy probably is if he's legitimately breeding and selling pandas like they're puppies, but even that sounds really hard to believe.

The bamboo won't cost that much if you grow it yourself. That is, if you live somewhere where bamboo can grow. Plus, bamboo takes a while to grow. Yeah, bamboo would cost a lot. But I don't think they only eat bamboo.

It's ilegal completely? Isn't it ilegal unless you can proove you live in a are suitable area for them and that you have the resources to maintain them?

Pandas are endangered, though. Even zoos sometimes have a hard time getting one, so I doubt they are going to let just anyone own one, even if they have the space and resources.

Technically, panda's are omnivores, they just prefer to eat bamboo.

Which is also dumb because that will probably damage the fur and you can just get a black and white dog



Dyeing a dog's fur isn't like dying your hair. This is for multiple reasons:
1. Dogs can lick the dye during application and die.
2. They can be allergic to dyes and it could cause chemical burns.
3. Dyes are made for humans. Not for ****ing animals.
5. You're friend is an idiot if she thinks it's okay.

Also its not even legal, but the bamboo wouldn't cost too much since can grow so much in very little time. I think it re-grows as well.

I'd just like to point out, Panda's are still wild animals. She does realize that it takes thousands upon thousands of years to successfully domesticate animals. A Panda is not going to be sentient towards you because of this. Basically, a panda would see her as a caregiver, not a friend. Just someone who has food and nothing else.

Your friend is terrible as hell.

1. Pandas are endangered you're putting another species at risk here.
2. They can still be vicious regardless of anything.
3. It's pretty much illegal to own most exotic animals in such states without a license or permit.
4. You have to have land to own such creatures. And that Land has to meet their requirements of living.

Honestly get a dog or something, don't put another species that are endangered at risk for your selfishness.

Honestly if she's being totally serious I think it's safe to assume that she hasn't thought any of this through at all, based on what we've been told so far. I mean she's accusing Beavcoon of being "too realistic" which is bad because that means she's in her own little fantasy world about what it could be like, when really she needs to think about things like what everyone here has said.

I still think she's just doing this for attention, or like MoonHorizons said, she's just going through a phase.
