Yes, now the battling system feels even more unbalanced.

I know they were trying to refresh a system that's been in use since 1996 and bring older pokemon up to the newer ones comparable stats, but even that seems to have been a failure (look at mega Absol, its defense is still awful) and not all mega evolutions follow the same mechanics. (Mega Rayquaza can hold whatever item it likes as long as it knows Dragon Ascent, whilst the others have to sacrifice their items for a mega evolution stone.) This makes it difficult for those who don't use any mega evolved pokemon. What was so difficult about adding another evolution line or like Deoxys having being exposed to a particular item giving it different stats and designs?

Don't get me started on the designs. Mega Raquaza is an over designed mess. I digress, mega Swampert looks awesome so why can't I have him look like that all the time!? Some of the designs are just lazy. Do I even need to explain mega Sharpedo? A kid could come up with a better design idea.
