French stereotyping [CLOSED]

Why are the French commonly stereotyped as weak, timid, and effeminate? Is it because of the WWII surrender?

France has a very martial history; Frenchmen are fighting men. The Gauls put up a hell of a fight against the Romans; Charlemagne's Frankish military campaigns started the Carolingian Dynasty and, by extension, the Holy Roman Empire; the Normans effectively destroyed the Anglo-Saxons in England; the most elite fighters of the Crusades (most notably the dreaded Knights Templar) hailed mostly from France; the French crown financed and facilitated many wars during the Renaissance; and let's not forget one of the bloodiest revolutions in the era, which put the almighty Emperor Napoleon into power.

Also, throughout the mid-twentieth century, French troops aided in fighting communism in Eastern Asia, and they have actively participated in the War on Terror in the Middle East.

The French are badass. This stereotype is completely unfounded.

french stereotyping comes primarily from english speaking countries, and where do a majority of english speaking countries descent from? france's historically eternal rival, england. history has always become ingrained in linguistics.

besides, what are they going to do about it, throw a baguette at me and surrender when i turn around?

Pretty much this.

British Empire was larger and more powerful than that of the French so their influence spread farther. WWII didn't help matters much but it was already a thing before.

Britain also started the joke of Napoleon being short. He was actually fairly average for his time period, but measurements were different at the time and Britain just rolled with it.

They put up a good fight on both of the world wars too.

About the Normans though. They were a Scandinavian people, hailing mostly from Norway (Nor-men, Norse-men, "men of the north", you get what I mean). Normandy came to be called Normandy because in the early middle-ages the vikings raided it pretty good and settled in.
