Fun fact: Vegetarians actually obtain more energy (biomass, in the form of carbon-based sugars) from what they eat than the average human who eats meat.

Energy is transferred along the food chain through different trophic levels. Each level can only get about 10% of the energy available to the previous level. Since vegetarians eat plants (the producers that get their energy directly from the sunlight), they're primary consumers and take in the most energy. If you eat meat (like, say, from a cow), you're a second consumer only getting 10% of the energy the cow had available, which was 10% of the energy available to the plant. In other words, you're only getting 1% of the energy available to the plant.

You're right. Let's go slaughter a fresh cow and tear up it's flesh and eat Organic meat.

What I don't understand about this whole Vegetarianism thing, is that we, as a species, has been eating meat since before Homo Sapiens existed as a species.

So why would that have to suddenly change? We're not a herbivorous species.

While humans are not exclusively herbivorous, we have evolved specialized batteries of molars in the backs of our jaws, useful for crushing and grinding tough plant matter. So, in a way, our diet is intended to consist at least partially of fruits and vegetables.

As for why people switch to a vegetarian diet, there can be a number of reasons. Maybe some people just love animals to the point that they refuse to eat them. Maybe they do it because they feel physically and emotionally healthier on the diet. Or maybe they simply prefer eating vegetables to meat. Any of these work.

Not trying to talk down to you, just trying to have a conversation.
