What prompts people to be so awful? At first it bothered me, but then I laughed it off. I just don't get though why some people are so cynical and rude like that? A "not interested" would have been fine.

As a wise man once told me, manners maketh the man.

Try being a bit more respectful. Be kind and courteous, compliment them subtly. Don't just lead in like that. Strike up a conversation based on their interests. Be more gentle, if you're goi find someone and keep them, you have to be gentle and loving.

A better lead in would be something like: "Hello, my name is [INSERT NAME HERE]! How are you?"

What makes a man desirable to a independent woman.

1. Respect - Every woman would like some respect for them and their choices. If you just try being a "player" or one of those people that are like "Hey you cute, may I get your number" that will turn the woman away, and find you repulsive. Also you would make sound like a man slut in my opinion, if you do not use respect.
   
2. Manners - Women love seeing manners being used. Very similar with respect on this subject, if you don't have any manners, you are not gonna be with a woman in the future.
   
3. Be Courteous - Most women like men that are courteous. It drags in both respect and manners into play. Though there's a little more to it. Like opening the doors, helping her out whenever possible, you know those sort of things. In fact a lot of people respect people for being courteous.
   
4. Ask questions before doing certain actions - Because some actions, can be considered weird to the woman. If they say "no" they mean "no", a.k.a don't bring up the subject ever, or drag it on or, go ahead and do it anyways. Major no no, if you do it anyways.
