Sony is making a Sonic movie too...

The topic name is slightly misleading. It implies that they already have the rights, but are considering where to go with the film, or that a rumor dropped that a script was being made. Right now it's just a pipe dream that they have and they're hunting to get the rights from all the big Nintendo guys.

The Sonic film is more concrete and guaranteed. There's probably a script already finished.

In both cases I'm pessimistic. Not because of bad video game movies, but because Sony would be in charge. Sony hasn't had a very good track record lately with CGI films, handing them off to lazy/bad people. It shows that they make these films purely for profit, and not because they have any care or respect for the source material.

And while we know next to nothing about what they have in store for the Mario film, they've already confirmed that Sonic will be a CGI/live action hybrid (a la The Smurfs). That alone gives me reason to dread what they have planned.

I'm not saying I think they will actually succeed in making the movie but they are trying to...

They probably will succeed anyway. Nintendo's been loosening their grip on their IPs and probably would let Sony make a film.

And that terrifies me.

Some things are better left as they already are.

A Sonic film?! Do want!

A Mario film would be better left in the hands of Disney/Pixar. Should also be a silent film.
