Or maybe we're all Christian children, but become a child of ______ parents?
Hurr hurr hurr...

But seriously, it's all a matter of perspective. It really kind of depends on what you believe in.

Yeeaahh, I don't even know why this is a topic, though. Unless everyone decides to be good little users, I can already see it now...
RAGE HATE RAGE HATE RAAAAAAAAGE

Also, this is kind of random (so many edits), why did you choose Christianity to point out? There are many different religions you could have chosen from, but you chose that one. Not trying to pick a fight or anything, just curious.

The way I saw this, is how parents will force their religion onto their children, even if they don't believe in it or follow it.

The kid may not even understand the concept of the religion, yet they're told to follow it by their parents.

I'm talking more of when the kid is old enough to make their own decisions. It's just really annoying.

This is true. The children aren't born as religious but are "trained" without making a choice.

What if the child grows older and chooses to remain in their religious beliefs? Would he still call a 16 year old Christian a "child of Christian parents" with no acknowledgement that the child may believe these things themselves?

Yeah children can be forced into religious beliefs because of their parents. But sometimes they legitimately believe in these things and continue to do so into their later lives.

I don't think you could actually "force" someone to believe in something, anyway...

That's actually waaaay off. most religious people were raised that way and didn't choose the path themselves.

@Avatari I think so. When you are raised a certain way you can be indoctrinated with certain beliefs and ideas about the world and where we come from. Children are raised with certain beliefs, there is no doubt about that.

Things start to change when that child grows older and goes into teenage and adult years. Will you, the parent, continue to insist on a religious belief to the point where you are willing to punish or disown the child should they believe in something else? If so, you are forcing it.

Perhaps, but they can still choose to not believe. I know several people who are a part of religious families and they don't believe in anything at all. You can push something all you want, but if someone doesn't want to believe, they aren't going to believe.

Implying that they aren't able to make a decision later on?

Not all religious parents forceful with their beliefs. Many (like my father) aren't that religious, and is perfectly fine with allowing their children to make their own choice. I came to my own conclusions and became atheist. Some children do that. Some children legitimately believe in the religion they grew up with and stick to it. No fault in either direction.

Also how do you explain born again Christians and other converts?

This.

My parents definitely raised me wanting me to be a Christian, but I do honestly believe it is my own choice to be one.
What's more, you're forgetting sometimes there are Christian children who don't have Christian parents.
And then there are "Christian" children and adults who don't act Christianly at all. Just sayin'. And then there's the people who just seem to want to belong to a denomination more than to the religion itself...

Anyway
Really the OP is just a pointless statement that commits the fallacy of a sweeping generalization (and that's the nicest way I can say it).

You guys all realize that this is just somePerson being completely and trollishly random?

Everyday at dinner we're forced to give grace and "thank god" for the food, when clearly, it was my parents who went to work and bought the food. The food didn't fall from the sky.

Not to mention all the "god protect god thanks for god please god god god blah blah"
So yes, it is forced upon me at least.

This is the kind of stuff I'm talking about, luckily I'm not forced to go to church anymore, but it annoys me to no end that I have to fake all this to make my parents happy.
