Well I guess that could solve that. Great to see how far forensic technology has come along.

Though I question the huge importance of solving a case well over 100 years old, where all participants (suspect, victim or otherwise) are dead. You can almost say the same thing about the unsolved Zodiac Killer case, though I suppose there could be a slight chance of him still being alive if he young enough at the time.

Don't get me wrong I do enjoy reading about this stuff and it's rather nice to have a conclusion.

Jokes aside, this is very interesting. It's amazing how far technology has come. I guess now in history books they are now going to have his real name, along with his alias.

...Oh, did you say something, Avatari?

Anyways, I'm surprised this wasn't discovered earlier. This type of DNA technology has been around for several years and I thought the case of "Jack the Ripper" would have been an interesting subject.

There are some cold cases now that have DNA evidence degraded from poor storage techniques, but it seems that bodily fluids in fabric can last for an extremely long time as proved by this.

^Maybe they had other, current cases that needed solving before they could devote time to something as old and arbitrary as this one.

I'm surprised they had enough time to do this now.

Exactly. A test like this is something you could give to a thrid year (even second year) molecular genetics student who already has knowledge of PCR and (gel) electrophoresis could at least produce a result that would visibly show a relationship between two different DNA samples. They most likely wouldn't get a 99.2% comparative accuracy, but it would be something that can lead to further and more accurate results.

I assumed that there would be too many cases in the world requiring analysis to where they could devote time to something as old as this. Wasn't aware of how quick and easy it could be.

Oops.

Don't sweat it. Originally these techniques took far longer to complete are were incredibly expensive, so they weren't as quick and easy originally. It's only within the past 10 yeas that these processes have been improved or outdated.
