July 28th, 1914 marked the beginning of the war to end all wars. The war that would signal the end of the Ottoman and Austrian-Hungarian empires, and the beginning of the U.S' role in the world stage. It brought new forms of warfare, some of which is now considered crimes against humanity, and had the most casualties in any war to that point (I think it still holds the record for most military casualties). The ramifications of the war would bring the predecessor to the United Nations, and set the stage for WWII and Hitler's rise to power. WWI is where the world changed.
Just though you should know.

How about letting her enjoy her two year anniversary? Nice ****ing contribution to the thread, asshole. And yeah, I wish I learned more about WW1 in school. It's kind of fantastic thinking about it. |

That doesn't make it ok to go into a thread about WWI and immediately derail it by talking about your relationship. I don't go around posting in unrelated threads about my relationship. |

Why don't we get off that topic entirely and focus on WWI?
On topic: I mostly got to know more about WWII in school, but I wish I could have learned more about this war and everything leading up WWII. It's one thing getting to know what happened, but the history leading up to that helps quite a bit as well. |

Crash Course did a pretty good video summing up WWI and why things happened, as well as what it resulted in (not so much the actual battles).
They also did a video specifically about the States' involvement in the war for their US history series if you're into that. |

Thanks CAV. It's strange that the nickname for WWI happens to be The Great War, when nothing great really came out of it. The amount of destruction it caused didn't ever pay back, instead leading to even worse disasters. Even great in a negative light wouldn't work as WWII was worse. I guess it could mean it as the first large scale war of the 20th century, which I could actually see. |

You guys should watch Band of Brothers if you're into WWII. It's like an 11 hour mini series it's wonderful
here's the section of d-day even if you're not into this kind of show i recommend it because it does a great job of telling what happened during WWII |
