Lots of new goodies confirmed in this video:

  • Rank will indeed be 20. (I was hoping they had changed their mind.) This removes a huge incentive for me to play with all of the skylanders. A shame.
  • Number of levels will be 18. Not sure if that includes the adventure packs or not--seems so.
  • Achievements
  • Additional end-level villains. Evil Wilikins are confirmed.
  • Kaos Mode?

I don't think that's how he put it. He said maybe the train was in multiple levels. He even expressed that it didn't sound right to have the adventure packs numbered in the middle of the chapter listings.

It looks like there's multiple flying sequences...nothing like sucking the value out of your landers with character agnostic sequences. Anyone else thinking the themes are TOO reminiscent of Giants?

i hope that if there are more flying sequences, they are more than the "aiming the cannon" ones that were the only ones in swap force.

The little side bar things in Swap Force I haven't really counted. I'm just re-living Autogyro Adventure and realizing it had too much of that kind of stuff in there. If they better balance it, I'm ok.

That is one area I think Swap Force did much better than TfB's games. It seems we are reverting back to a more minimalistic version, which I'm not as happy with, as you are.

I've made the parallel once I'll do it again.

Watch 'any' of the MBay directed Transformer movies. Pretty bad right? Now watch them again, and fast forward past ANY scene revolves around a human. Much better movie isn't? Even if you liked Sam's parents, the movie is just more enjoyable as a whole without humans.

When I went through Swap Force the first time, the levels felt incredibly long, like ridiculously long and it drained me, byt hte time I finished a single level I was ready to save and go do something else. Recently, I started playing again on a different console. I only had a couple characters 'near' the console, so I literally only played as Jade fire kraken for more than half the game (so far my PS3 says I only have 7 figures when my 360 says I have pretty much everything but a couple variants). This means the only element gates I could do were fire, and the only swap gate I could do were the jump ones.

The game is so much better now. There is a 'pace' to it. the levels don't take what seems like 45 minutes to an hour to complete.

So while I PERFECTLY understand those who like the content - and I'm not defecating on the content either, but I'd MUCH rather for the storyline they trim most of that 'fat', and leave it to be accessible independently in the hub (like after you've beaten it in SF)...thus not forcing you to do so much for 3 Stars, but leaving the content there for those who do like it. I mean come on, there are several levels in SF where there is an elemental gate right NEXT to a Swap gate, meaning upwards of 10-15 minutes that could have been spent going through the level is consumed trying to beat those two areas.

Unreall, that's a pretty good point. I had a very similar experience playing through in full the first time. I wouldn't want content cut, just "relocated" to put it simply. Having more to do after completing the main campaign is great in any game and definitely this franchise. I always save team arenas, bonus missions, and such until after I've mopped up the campaign levels.

Pacing is an important point. One thing Activision needs to understand is that content can be delivered differently than simply saying "more level for your buck". I've ranted on continuously how they can do that. The pace of this game will be on par to the general audience's liking, which is better in my mind. But I say again...they need to innovate WITHIN the game to make the character purchases OUT OF THE GAME more worthy. Folks are now finally agreeing with others in that "less is more" within the game AND at the store when making figure purchases. They either solve how to deliver inobtrusive content or gameplay to support more characters (but doesn't detract from the core experience) OR they start decreasing the toys. One or the other.

stt is going to tablets now. so we will have to deal with the limits of the tablets. taking advantages of new powerful ps4,xbone,wiiu etc.. is out the windows i guess. also next step is to have only tablet digital characters and god knows what other things they will sell you. activision is really going out there this time to ruin skylanders...

Ho hum, outfits don't do much for me, just more stuff to bury behind the trap master pay gates. Although hats had kind of gone as far as they could, it's nice there might be more ways to boost your stats. I hardly think this is game changing news that would sway anyone to climb aboard the STT hype train.

I guess I'm wrong, I swore up and down that the first one had an iOS release, I remember looking at it SEVERAL times at Target with buttons showing it was playable for iOS, but doing an internet search I'm not finding anything right now. I know I'm not crazy though.

At this point, I'm honestly most worried about wether the extra modes (especially Survival/Time Attack) are coming back. I wasn't thinking much about it before, but they aren't on the achievement list... It would be a big step back in replay variety, if they go. I'd be sad if the extra modes went, since I enjoyed several for different reasons. I've silently been hoping that they'd expand on them, but as far as I know, they haven't been mentioned at all.

... Wait, I forgot Brock is back. There's hope, and notable evidence, for Survival's return! smilie I'm hoping that it inherits some of the charm it did in Giants, though with a few more levels where your only objective is to kill everything like SF (I haven't played Giants Survival in a long time, but when I did, it felt like there were too many stages slowed down from having to knock enemies into blades or go after particular ones or similar; prefer SF's design for those stages, though I do miss seeing the crowd in it and wish it still offered a couple "slower" stages).

I'll keep an eye out for tomorrow's reveal, but I've been waiting so long to see wether they've fixed problems I had with the last games, and I'm so tired of checking for news. Maybe I should just take a break from the franchise entirely so that TT would feel fresh, but if I didn't play the older Skylander games for months, they'd feel fresh again too.
I think at this point a lot of my disinterest is coming from having played the games so much already. I'm just not excited for TT right now. I've seen so much gameplay, and it looks neither different nor improved upon enough from the others, for me. I hope I'm excited with today's reveal, but expectations are low, since none of the recent news has made me excited (not even the full character poster). Honestly, I think the only thing I'm particularly excited to see are the reviews for the game...

70% of the hats are useless. It's an awesome inventory, but let's face it. No one REALLY used all of those old SSA and SG hats, did they? All I did was wear the new stuff. They have to support old because it's like supporting the characters. But in general, I don't think MORE hats are needed.

Oh a different note, and I know the issue of character gender isnt a major factor to some people... But given it was part of a major press release quoting Paul Reiche about the amount of female characters increasing this go round

I know several of the characters in the poster are hard to see. It makes determining things like gender rather impossible. However I seriously hope that the claimed higher female character ratio wasn't based on a few villains and rehashing sidekicks. As it stands right now on confirmed female characters: Torch, Deja Vu , Gearshift, Frightengale, & Head Rush. We're at the same ratio of new Sky-lady characters as we were in Swap Force. The sidekicks might equal things out compared to the reposes we got for girls. Which leaves the few unknowns and the villains to up the ratio? Lame.

No one needs a three page rant about ANY topic. Just hoping at least 2-3 more of the unknowns end up as ladies. I think using the sidekicks as an excuse to up the claimed total is a rather disappointing cop-out. I dont really need to go more in depth on the subject.

It looks like today's announcement might be the character roster. I'd also expect clarification on the role of Sidekicks, since having them on the poster while people don't know what they do could confuse people.

If it's just the poster and no new Sidekick info... Colour me whatever represents cancelling preorders. I really wanted to vent so I actually wrote a rant about it in a notepad. I'd be happy to see them reveal it after the demand, and I think the roster looks good and better than SF's, though it doesn't relate to my biggest concerns and wouldn't hype me. Since I've felt iffy about the franchise lately, I decided I wouldn't get it at launch if the reveal was the roster, because I don't care enough now and want to dedicate more free time to other games again.

If they do give details about what Sidekicks do, my reaction would depend on what they do.

If they reveal the roster and post gameplay videos of every Skylander, I'll have a look at the videos to see if anyone seems particularly cool, although it wouldn't sway me into a launch-day buy.

Re: Outfits- I don't care for the cosmetic changes, and the games are never so difficult you need the stat boosts. I never keep Hats on, except (recently) Speed ones, which I remove once the Skylander is maxed.

Here, you can see some extremely short official gameplay of Chef Pepper Jack. He attacks with two huge whisks.

We also see a nice cinematic of a few Trap Masters (Lob Star, surprisingly, made an appearance) and some villains (including Pepper Jack and "Dreamcatcher").
