You know how people would like to direct respond to other users, but don't wish to clog the threads up with quotes? How about a ping notifier?

It's where ya go @[insert user's name here] and type a message and they get notified that they were mentioned. It's very useful, to let people know that they were mentioned in a message.

Or at least a mention that you were quoted (outside of Guestbook and signatures).

I agree with this idea. It will make stuff much more easier and there won't be quotes all over the page. I must say quotes get really annoying and messy.

I think the reply button should notify users instead of being another button for posting.

It actually doesn't sound like a good idea, Trix. I've experienced that in deviantART before, in which my first mention was because I accidentally mentioned TLoS in a group that hates it. They kind of went on a hate attitude, but all I asked is if was okay to upload a fanfic that references TLoS, even though it focuses on mostly classic.

I mean, it sounds like something, but everyone would hate getting negative mentions.

But that is life, I mean it's not everyone is gonna use @[username] here to harass, if they did the gnorc hammer would probably faster than Sonic can run.

There had been an attempt to deal with quote mountains in the past: the number of quotes within quotes was limited to the current amount it is right now. Which is 3 or 4, I think. I like the @User idea, but just because it's available doesn't mean people are actually going to use it. I'm still guilty of quoting posts that are right above mine. <.>

i actually prefer the quote feature itself but if there were a notification for when you get replied to via quote, it'd seem like a welcome feature.

Yeah and I was also saying that too. I mean if you get quoted or normally pinged, you should get a notification about it.

See Nintendo life. You'd enter @Arc of Archives on there, and I'd get an email about how someone c@lled me out with the @ feature. I'd know someone replied to my post. It could also cut down on the amount of quotes, making it easier to navigate topics, but the quote feature would be available for posts a page or less ago so people knew of one referred to an older post. Instead of sending emails when someone gets c@lled out (as Nintendo Life does) the notifications would be integrated to the site somehow.

To be honest, I'd rather see something different where you could go @#1 to c@ll out the first post- people would know which post you were referring to and the user who made Post #1 would get a notifier seeing you mentioned them.

I don't think it's a must-have feature and I'd rather see... Other things, but it'd be useful.

you could always set to subscribe to every thread you post in and check the subscriptions page to see if anyone has recently posted in a thread you've posted in
