3ds SA reset trap trick works on crystals !!!

I just reset a magic crystal twice !!!

For those who know how to do the 3ds SA reset, give it a go . I didn't level my Imaginator. I just picked a battle class , threw some random parts together, played In game for a second, then moved the crystal over to 3ds SA to reset them . And when I moved the crystal back to SI... I was able to pick a new battle class !!!

Nah can't test chests now, lost the tv lol.

The 3ds SA is like $4 second hand at EB games lol, so it's pretty cheap, but the portals don't usually come with them, the portals are the rare thing .

(edited steps after walking Thomas L through it and confirming)

YOU CAN NOW RESET THE BATTLE CLASSES USING THE ZOOKINATOR FOUND METHOD:
-
THINGS YOU NEED:
1. Nintendo 3DS system.
2. SkyLanders Spyro’s Adventure video game.
3. SkyLanders Spyro’s Adventure, Giants or Swap Force Portal of Power.
4. Crystal with a Battle Class selected and an Imaginator created on that crystal.
5. SkyLanders Imaginators video game.
-
STEPS:
1. Start up SI game and make an Imaginator.
2. Start up 3DS SSA game.
3. Talk to Wendel, the Mabu in the center of the map, he will prompt you to play a SkyLander on the Portal.
4. Place Crystal with an Imaginator on the 3DS SSA Portal of Power and Aim the 3DS at the Portal of Power.
5. It should not recognize in game and show an Error “Uh Oh a toy on the Portal of Power has a problem, Reset this SkyLander?”
6. Press the Reset button.
7. Another error screen displays “SORRY A toy on the Portal of Power can’t be used with this game. Please contact Activision Customer Service for assistance. Need more help? Check out your Quickstar Guide!”
8. Place that Crystal on the Portal that SkyLanders Imaginators is running on.
9. Crystal is now reset to factory defaults.
-
Found by zookinator on DS.
Thanks to Thomas L for trying this out.
EVERYONE, SPREAD THE WORD, LET'S LET THE CASUAL TO HARDCORE FANS KNOW ABOUT THIS!!!

The way it works is as such:

Make Imaginator (to put extra data on the Crystal)

Start up SSA 3DS

Talk to Wendel to connect with any Portal (any game's Portal works, even SSF).

Place the CC on the Portal when prompted.

After a few seconds, the game should give you the option to reset; I'm only assuming as I haven't tested it. Click 'Yes' on the lower screen.

The game will send in an empty Portal, and while that may concern you, don't worry; it's just what the game came up with after scanning the CC's key: Nothing.

After sending it back to SI, it should be a brand new Crystal!

I'll try this myself, but knowing how resetting a Trap works, I figure that the Crystal should be the same.
P.S. I'm the one who suggested using SSA 3DS in the Discussion topic. smilie

Great news. Will test it myself when I get the game and a duplicate fire trap from the two starter packs I'm planning to get.

If it works, I will let my kids go nuts creating whatever they want.

I doubt Activision would really issue an update to such an old game, but if they do, luckily 3DS game updates are never automatic and require you to visit the e-shop to download. The most we'd probably see is a notification to visit the e-shop when you start the game (if you're connect to wifi), which you can just always decline.

I was mainly joking. But, they could do something like that, people need to be aware and not update should one appear, because at this point that is what it will be for. I don't think they would be able to catch it from the console side. They might be able to identify if it was cleared out by the 3DS version, but they probably cannot tell what class it used to be - so the best they could do is not recognize the crystal intentionally, but I don't see them doing that.

I personally think they will back off later this year on the reset, once sales have slowed to try to reinvigorate interest in later waves.

Sweet! I have all the Skylanders 3DS games and I didn't know we could reset figures like that. Glad to see an easy work around of the crystal situation as honestly I do want to switch around and test stuff out but I'm not terribly interested in owning an army of crystals. They are just so ugly.

I'm far more interested in buying a $50 create-a-character and rather have one of those than 5 crystals. I made this wonderful baelander last night and I was trying to throw my money at my phone for Activision to make her, but it seems they were just not taking orders yet. I know it's expensive, but I really do think that's where the fun is at, not the crystals.

The weird thing in my case is that I was always planning to get a minimum of 30 crystals anyway...

The difference now is that I can actually play and have fun with them, rather than stressing over whether or not the class/element synergy would work out, or keeping them out of other peoples' hands so they don't screw something up. smilie

Similar situation for me, except my plan is to buy just a Crystal per Element.
And I don't know if I would have kept it if they woudlnt have been resetable in any way.

Activision should realize some customers might change their minds entirely in a bad way, when they took these choices.

Awesome news! The creation app was making me really want other Crystals, but not being able to even reset them back to level 1 was too much of a turn-off.

With this method though, I can get all I want without worry. And I can even experiment a bit with my Fire Imaginator without stressing on which of the classes that look interesting are absolute best.

SSA3DS was already one of my top favorite Skylanders games but this has brought it new life. Praise Wendel and his Crystal-clearing powers!

I want to point out that this is still a problem, since many users may not have a 3DS or an easy way to buy its SA game.
I still think Activision made a terrible decision and will confirm itself as short-sighted company if it won't allow an official way to reset Crystals throught an update.

But I'm happy there is at least a way to properly enjoy TfB's hard work to its fullest.

While not *ideal*, the 2DS is down to an MSRP of $70 and includes Mario Kart, so it's a pretty decent deal on a *great* system. Some really nice games out there for it.

If you track down a used copy of S:SA 3DS, remember, you can use the portal from ANY 3DS game with it.

I still think the easiest way for most will be a third-party PC tool (Pyrofer's, the Command Line based one before that, the one that we cannot name on here for stupid reasons...), but this *is* a great way to get it done.

It's not risking an unwanted figure being reset, it's the fact that the reason this works is because of the magnets in the TV speakers, and if something goes wrong with magnets, it could potentially break the portal being used or potentially the figures on it if they're close enough.
