When the Great Greeble War came to an end, he returned to his hometown of Flutter Bay as a celebrated hero. He was the talk of the town and everyone wanted to shake the many hands of the famous young pilot. Typically they announce stuff way after it releases, and now they're announcing saying it's available before it's released? Who knows haha.

They have done the "before it releases announcement" thing before a few times. The good news from all this I think is that it appears to be confirmation they won't try to bridge to Skylanders 6 by making Thrillipede a pre-order bonus to try and drag collectors to commit to buying on day 1 and don't get him until the Fall.

I think it's safe to say that with this year's over-the-top vehicle fantasy, Skylanders will no doubt kicks itself into gear for a long time.

Don't worry, he'll be back. Once the Infinity news dies down and the Thrillipede/Buzz Wing hype dies, he'll pop back up, perhaps with a sob story as to why he was out of pocket, and if anyone tries to say anything about Infinity/Thrillipede/Buzz Wing, he'll lecture them about digging up the past and he'll never admit anything.

Thrillipede made it today in his padded envelope. The only thing wrong is the plastic shell has some damage a crease in top of it but everything else is ok.

I went to Toys R Us today, and as luck may have it, the store was loaded with Buzz Wings! My vehicle collection is officially complete. So yeah, check out your local Toys R Us. You may be lucky too. Hoping they get Thrillipede by next week. *fingers crossed*

Lucky. My TRU hasn't gotten then yet. Or if they have they haven't put them out. Mine will moat likely wait until the 24th until putting them on shelves. So close.

Regular Thrillipede arrives in good shape (in a padded envelope). Figure looks nice, but apparently TfB cheaped out a bit. Like Easter Trillipede, his eyes are a solid color (yellow) with no pupils painted in (unlike the artwork). Also, he is only holding two grenades (the arm in front of him does not have one), and he has no pin in his mouth. This is consistent with Easter Thrillipede (expected), but different from earlier images of his figure:

TFB isn't on the helm yet. It's weird with the pin because most of it was cut to look like his upper teeth, and it's still that same shape. As in, horrifying Dreamworks grin.

They are the one responsible for designs, not Acti.

So no pupils, no third grenade and no pin in his mouth (but the hole is still there)?
Cannot say it wasn't expected, but... Come one, V.V., at least the pupils!
This might sincerely become the first figure I won't be able to look at...

Glad we'll soon be thinking about a new entry and forget this really disappointing year.

Activision is responsible for contracting with manufacturers, they do not have each separate developer do that on their own. There would be no consistency in packaging or legacy figure manufacturing. I know people want to hate on VV because Superchargers wasn't that great for many people, but they are a software developer. Not to mention TfB does assist them in character/toy creation.

Besides this is nothing much different from the aforementioned changes to LC Pop Fizz. They majorly changed that figure to make production cheaper. And TfB was in charge for that year. Jade Flashwing and a crazy number of outright bad looking figures. It isn't one developer versus another on this stuff. Skylanders have always had some issues with figure quality.

I think the decission to remove the pin from his mouth was more than just cutting corners. It probably would have looked bad on some figures if the glue wasn't tidy, since it's in his teeth. It also makes sense with the artwork that he would use his teeth if every hand is holding a grenade, but by removing a grenade he would have a free hand to pull the pin.

Yeah, the pin didn't really bother me. The lack of a third grenade, especially when his hand is posed as if he was holding it was a little worrying. The lack of pupils I think is the most glaring issue, personally and looks the weirdest.

Lack of pupils is definately the worst. We laugh at the cross-eyed mispaints but they look funny, not souless.

edit: Is Battlecast technically part of Wave 5?If so, Toys R Us got us some videos.

I was also bothered by Grim Creeper (non-lightcore) and his lack of consistent pupils. The Lightcore had a blue with black center pupil, but the regular one (in the Battle Pack) just had solid blue pupils. I'm pretty nit-picky on my figures, I've been known to go through many Skylanders before finding one I liked when the opportunity arose. It is a personal thing for me sure, but I'm just that way.

Overall though, Thrillipede is a great looking character and Buzz Wing is definitely my favorite vehicle model.

It's not like I am happy to blame V.V. for everything but I'm pretty sure the digital sculpting and coloring is still part of their job.
I would understand all these mistakes, oversights and imperfections if they happened with the same frequence with TfB as well.

Let me explain, because I know their figures aren't perfect either.
I think the key of making a nice Skylander toy is to make it as similar as possible to its in-game counterpart, so that at the first glance you can say "wow, they are identical!"
Then of course missing details start popping up when you take a better look at them.

Yeah, the missing pin and grenade are a pity but what truly bothers me are the pupils.
Both TfB and V.V. often paint just the iris or the pupil of the characters (I think that's why Grim Creeper's eyes aren't a problem for me, for example) but... They paint something!

The lack of this detail is simply unsettling compared to others.
Astroblast looking bland... Well, it sucks but I can live with it.
Smash Hit's boulder being metallic... Ok, fine.
But... Souless eyes...?
No, just no.
It's a small detail but makes a great difference.

So for this (unless it turns out to be a factory error, which I still think is very likely) I blame V.V., exactly like I blamed TfB for Trail Blazer's armor.

I mean, it wouldn't look bad if he actually had souless eyes like some other characters. Pupils are really the worst if they don't paint them. I remember an early version of Stealth Elf having pupils... I wonder what that means.

Honestly I think the yellow eyes are more fitting than pupils, it makes him look more like a bug. I wish they kept the third grenade though, that bothers me.

That was probably a point where all elves had pupils like Hex and the Collector, not just Tree Elves and Frost Elves and what have you. Blank eyes are cool though, since they invoke a lot of mystery about the character and makes them look imposing,like Nightfall. Not having pupils on a cheerful and humble millipede is what makes Thrillipede look souless, because you expect him to have expression in them.

Yes, because his artwork shows a lot of cheerfulness while these usually are either the challenging-the-odds type(Deja Vu, the swappers) or the imposing type.

In fact,lemme do that right now, I got him on my bookmarks.

Very quick change and really not going to match the shading because I'm busy doing other painting stuff, but yeesh. It's worse than Eggcited - ok not going to exaggerate you can't get worse than Eggcited. There's nowhere for the viewer's eye to go without a darker spot. If he was looking down on you,with heavy shadows,then it'd work,but then the personality would have to change.

Damn, that's creepy as hell. I think that characters without pupils need to have more sharp, "evil" looking eyes to actually look good. Round eyes with a bright smile need to have pupils... they have to.
